i think (from what i've noticed) is that most of the monthly fee is waved and replaced by time cards or minutes. And it do be millions upon millions from what i've noticed. i think one hit 70million.. whew. But I did the 14 day trail for EvE and just wunt my thing.. didnt even finish the free trail lol but no doubt that it's a good game. just aint for me.

Also, I wonder about the Net Incom of some of these games b/c I know SWG charges allot per month for its game... not sure how much EvE is a month. I would actually like Eve a lil more if I could get out and explorer some of the worlds on foot but they pretty much attached u to a pod. Thats good if you like the Ghost in the Shell type ship, maybe even fun... but like i keep hearing.. you just gotta have a taste for that kinda game. one of those love it or hate it type things. but EvE is very different from the normal MMO's but i'm seeing more and more type games pop up in MMO format.. even Beta testing a game called DANCE! nice lil work out.. very active.. very fast. you get caught up in the whole environment, I've played n test different sport types of MMO's and played some flying game MMO that was fun. so no doubt, EvE is a perfect example that you dont have to be ur standard Orc and Mage MMO to have a big ass list of fans. so game on all you EvE freaks... think ill go try something else loony out

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi

    Games I'm Playing: Warframe/STO

Games I'm Pondering: The Secret World

question, what is NA/Eu?  I know what US/Eu is but several posters used NA/EU?

Second, on EVEs growth, When it went live it had... Gasp 3000 subscribers the first six months. By 2004, it was up to 8000 and doubling ever sence.

Ok.. point,. when you start out at the bottom it's easy to go up especally in a niche game.  Now if EVE had started with 2mil subscribers or what were the numbers for WOW? Duh.. it will have to go down especally since you actually have to pay for the accounts. On of the unique things about EVE is that it can played by people that never pay for their accounts because the sell ISK for GTC (game time cards).  For the most part is is true that you don't have the "gold" farmers other games are plauged with because when you jump into a belt and see 5-10 macros clearing out the belt, it's not one guy farming gold for sale of Ebay, it's one guy using 4-10 accounts to buy and sell GTCs.   Oh and if you saw the EO post the average is 3 accounts for every player not 2 but all of the accounts are paid, even if it's with ISK sales.

So though the real world player base is a lot smaller the accounts of 160k (active) is what is posted by CCP. So you have to really deside,

    1. Do you trust the number CCP provides?

    Why would they lie?

    2. Does it really matter that there may only be 30k+/- actually players as long as the game is gaining players?

So what, if some one wants or actually needs to have multiple accounts to do anything. There are lots of MMOs out there that run on the store concept, you pay RL cash to buy items instead of working for them. EVE requires you to have more than one account to do anything but go pew pew pew.  Besides, $15 a month to get a hauler/refiner alt sure beats the money thown around buying items on the store based MMOs

    3. Is there really any other game on the market that is close or in development?

Ok. like some one said earler in the posts. There is simply no other game out that 1. allows people to do anything they want without have to be held accountable nad 2. there simply is no other SCI FI MMOG out.  I have explained this as the ugly girlfriend scenario. It  is better to have an ugly girlfriend than none at all.

EVE is not the best game on the market or even the best that it could be (when pann left the direction changed from one a lot of us were looking forward to to the direction EVE has taken over the last few years).  But given a lack of choices EVE is a good settle game, that is if you choice is a highly polished game like WOW but you have to work and play with elves and the Sci fi world of EVE.. lot's of ppl will settle for EVE.  Think of it this way, you want a great steak but your town doenst have an outback, rubi tuesdays etc... so you have to settle for what ever your town does have.

Also a few additions to the post on EVEs history, it was good and informative but you left out a few things.  The 3 were from the same PK guild and wanted to create a game that would allow free PKing as at the time almost all major games(and game makers) where trying to restrict PKing as it was detremental to most gameplay.  The original Idea was that 0.0 space was to be a free for all PKers heaven. Pann and a few other developers actually came up with the sliding sec scale to help prevent rampant PKing in empire space which was to be used for the Corp war PVP action.  Once pann and a core group of devs left the game changed from the importance of corp warfare to the freefor all you have today.  there is more but I have to get back to work...

In anycase here is something to think about, EVE will continue to grow until the DEVS do something to really PO the playerbase. In a game where it ok to PK, cheat, steal and scam you way to riches you really think coruptions matters?   On ther other hand the majority of the players are not the low sec/0.0 PVPers but the high sec empire dwellers.  CCP is doing 2 things that will affect the game for better or worse. It's moving the lvl4/5/6 etc to low sec and it's clamping down on macros/isk sellers.

IMHO we will see more ppl get upset from this than any of the shannagins CCP (in game players) has pulled to date. While they did not see large numbers of accounts cancled from the latest incident of coruption I do see a lot of players that will no longer be able to pay for their accounts via Macromining cancling their macro accounts. The real question is will this mean 1000 or 30k+ accounts cancled? EVE was growing because of players having to have multiple accounts, take this away and the numbers will start falling fast.

I personally dont like macrominers so loosing ever one of them IMHO would be a good thing but we have to keep in mind that every macro account is a paid account which doe's help keep CCP in money to do things like fix some of the issues and bugs as well as coem up with new ideas like Walking in stations (but no fighting)... wait did I say new?  I remember seeing something like it... in freelancer 5 years ago.

NA would be North America which also includes Canada and possibly Mexico (not sure where where the line between North and Middle America is drawn).
