Nice to see JD will still come back for a good VG BBQ...*rolls eyes*

I will say what all the VG haters have been saying for weeks...if LOTR is so hot, why arent you jackholes off playing it?

    I totally agree.

LOTRO discussions should be kept on its board. And i am no Vanbois, read my previous posts elsewhere and you will see this. I just feel Matraque is right on this.

Respect to all those with there own opinions of course, but this is a constructive comment in its intention. Im looking forward to Middle Earth alot as are many it would seem... BUT lets talk about it on the board provided.

    Regards

I seriously doubt this statement to be true AT ALL.

EVERY game I have ever played (even ones not in the genre of Fantasy MMO or Fantasy period) Has Tolkienites running about with their personal "clever" variations of Gimli, Legolas, etc etc..

I'm sorry, I love Turbine and am a big fan of AC and DDO but this is one area where Turbine fails miserably and can never be forgiven. The expansion for Asheron's Call 2 was released May 4th, 2005. The game was announced to be cancelled on August 25th 2005. Subscription numbers and capitalism aside, it was irresponsible and downright negligent of them to offer for sale a product with such a short lifespan.

I will continue to support Turbine products but I will never again purchase one of their expansions until well after it is released. In this department they have a worse reputation with me than EA does.

Well, I guess for the same reason the VG lovers aren't off playing VG instead of beating on the VG haters ...

Hmm well LoTR will bring a new audience for sure and atm is quite stable with a good engine.

I be buying it but from what i seen it will have little to hold you for long term and the classes atm are very bland. It has good points but i hope they work on the classes as they are pretty bland atm.

So what part of it you don't understand? Such is the game's state even before release. In other words it is in a much better shape in beta than the miserable shape of most other games months after release.

being sent to speak to an elf to ask to learn how to 'Mine' fish

man with language that bad bee too busy laughing to play the game

and for those of you who ask why 'Vanbois' are busy posting on here, try this for a revelation

We have JOBS....You know where we work for people to make money IRL? That takes up around 8-12 hours of our day depending what you do!

I play every evening but i aint 'Hardcore' (depends what your definition is)

so far nothing i have seen on LOTRO makes me want to go out and buy it, i mean you are all doing the same thing the 'Vanbois' were doing when VG was in Beta, 'hyping' the game

Just hope you have as much fun in LOTRO as i am having in VG, i may decide to play LOTRO at some point but not just yet

I knew this was coming from someone with more intelligence than the rest. Still, it is something considering some other samples borged five out of five, isn't it?

Maybe every other server is dead, I dont know, I only play on one, Floryndel (RP), and all I can say is there are always plenty of ppl online, no matter what time I log on. I never have any problems finding folks to hunt with if I want, nor do I have any problem finding ppl everywhere I go.

So, if a merge is coming, it will have to be with all the other servers, because there is no room on mine for all the ppl from any other server to be added.

I understand alot of you dont want Vanguard to succeed, and thats your right. What I dont understand is why you say things that simply dont make since...

I can't stand WoW, but I have nothing to say about it, you like it... go play it, enjoy it, I am happy for you, same goes for LoTR:O, I hope you enjoy it, but why not just tell everyone how great that game is instead of bashing one you say you dont play? I know I know, the standard answer to that applies, "I want to warn ppl so they dont waste there money" and whatever.. well, everyone can see your byas, and taking the opinion of someone with an obvious byas simply doesn't make since to me. Not to mention, if you simply want to let others know your opinion of a game, write a reveiw and leave it at that. Maybe then your opinion would carry more weight.

Ohh yeah, I played the LoTR:O beta, and the graphics look exactly like AC2, minor improvements, but the same engine, UI design, art and feel as AC2. To some that is a good thing, to others its not. But if you played AC2 then you already know what the graphics and feel of LoTR is, take it for what you will. And the game play and animations, well, the animations are on par with VG, far below that of EQ2, and the game play felt just like AC2. Once you get past the cinematic scenes about the movie, then all you have is a game that feels like AC2. You want to attack a mob? hit the button on your hotbar, want to attack it again? hit another button. Want to do a quest? well you guessed it, talk to the quest giver, then go talk to another guy to complete it or go kill said mob. The only thing thats any different in quest is the text in the window when you receive the quest, Which I never read. Some folks will like LoTR, I didn't, some folks like woW,I dont. Some folks like VG, I do and some won't.

There is an old saying where I come from... "If someone is higher up than you, you have two choices, reach up and drag them down to you, or climb up to where they are" When you guys attack VG, it simply makes it seem like you veiw it as being higher up the ladder than you and you cant climb up, so you try and pull them down. Guys, start climbing the ladder, tell everyone about the game of your choice and stop trying to pull every other game you dont play down to your lvl.

This is all just my opinion, and it should mean nothing to anyone but me, and the same goes for you and yours....

I'll give Turbine credit where credit is due. From a technical standpoint, the game is solid. It even looks pretty enough, though the visuals remind me of DDO, particularly the character models. Gameplay was the same old, same old, though, and just did nothing to hook me in. If I were a bigger fan of the IP, it might have held my attention a bit longer.

I did like the badge/achievement system though. I was a badge collecting junky in SWG, and would like to see more games institute things like that.

All in all, for new MMO players, it'd be a good introduction to the genre, much like WoW, but for vets, I think they will find it lacking. I don't think it will get as many nonMMO fans to sub as some think. The monthly fee will turn some off, and the lack of sandbox style gameplay will turn off others that were hoping to live out their old Rolemaster days.

Unlike Vangaurd which does absolutely nothing but insult people who never played an mmo and who do'nt have great systems.

I also like to say that people who say causal game, must think that just because you play casually , you have no skills at gaming ? That is the biggest misconception on the entire forum. Causual gamers have just as much ability as anyone who sits down for 12 hours to play an mmo . I will even give the casaul oplayer props because they are able to play a game well or as good in shorter ammounts of time .

Casual means they have a life, and that is why the "hardcore" try to create cloak of inferiority over a casual player.

I'm a casauls Counter=strike player now ,but I will still own your ass.
Pretty sure new players first MMO was "World of Warcraft", and I doubt LOTRO is going to take many subscribers from them...  Why would you leave WOW to go play a copycat game who's only difference is its IP and maybe better looking graphics (subjective based on the type of computer you have) ??   I seriously doubt your going to see any MMO have the WOW success unless they come up with something thats completly new....  LOTRO is the same ol' same ol'

Having BETA tested BOTH LotRO and Vanguard, IMHO, Vanguard SoH has a MUCH more colorful world and quest system. I was rather disappointed with LotRO's character avatar graphics. Vanguard just seems to be ONE step ahead of LotRO in this area...not much but a step ahead. At least there's texture in my character avatar's graphics for Vanguard. That's just ONE thing of many that I will not go into.

    Overall ratings for both:

Vanguard:SoH gets a 7.5 (low marks on FPS, stability, and some quest bugs, but otherwise a 10 in everything else!)

LotRO gets a 6.0 (low marks on simplified avatar graphics and everyone looks alike! lame quests that are not very well thought out and cookie cut right from WoW and EQ2. The towns are too scrunched togehter unlike VSoH where there's plenty of countryside to see! HIGH marks for environmental graphics and music, stability)

Makes sense for VG lovers to frequent a VG forum while at work,  or someplace where they don't have the time to play.  Not really sure the opposite comes across as "normal".
