Any other PvP aside from monstershow?

Loving the game so far, without having tried the monsterPvP thing, I would just like to fire off a question:

Have there been any mentionings about other aspects of PvP? I really think I will leave EVE for this game, but I am concerned that when I feel the need to PvP, the current format wont fill my needs. Was hoping for something else, FFA areas, RvR, guild PvP.

Anyone heard anything?

I haven't heard anything.  Highly doubt since you're all "the good guys."  Maybe someday they'll do an expansion where you get to be on the side of that flaming eyeball guy .  But don't really see that happening - plus that's prolly what monsterbash is like.

Though I don't know if Turbine will implement any other forms of PvP, I am pretty excited about the possibilites of Monster Play.  Imagine one day playing in the battleground of Mordor. That would be quite fun I must say.  Or perhaps a giant underground MP area in Moria where players and monsters fight over mithril deposits.

The very constraint that the lore implies regarding PvP is actually making (and will make) very creative and fun gameplay.  As I knew it could.

They have been pretty vocal about monsterplay being the only PvP they will do.  Now and moving forward.

Fine with me, monsterplay is a blast

i actually decided to stop playing lotro and not buying it because of the PvMP

I have a pretty dim view of PVP in general and will not miss it overly much in LoTR. To me, the monster play aspect satisfies my hunger to beat down on other players.

For those that truely wish to experience PVP, give Eve Online a try. That should sate any PVPers thirst for bloodshed. :)

In fantasy games, PvP tend to cater to those that have the best loot and play the most hours. For a lore driven game like LoTR, I can do without being ganked.

You can go buy an elf suit and look in the mirror and pretend to PVP yourself  while having LOTRO playing on your computer.  That's the closest PVP you will come to in it.  Monster PVP is waste of bandwidth.  People got to face it...this game is a carebear game.

Playing a pre-made level 50 monster stinks...what were they thinking.

Well, running around ganking people/getting ganked, isn't what I would desire.

In an effort to expalin it, I can only draw lines to EVE, since it's the only mmo I played a long time. Now, ganking happens often in EVE aswell, but the ability for players/corps/alliances to shape the game is unrivaled and is ofc only possible when you give a game that level of PvP.

The ideal game for me would be fantasy based (I don't even like the spacegenre that much, I just play EVE cuss the game itself is so damn good), with RvR style PvP, meaning groups of people PvP with their main characters, in a way that shapes the game or atleast the realmstatus, possibly avoiding ganks as much as possible.

Either way, thanks for the insight, I will still play LOTRO I think, becauce for me it works as a great RPG so far.

    See you there o/

Wow, I completely disagree vingvega. Monster play is a lot of fun.

I've chased down happless halflings and feasted on their flesh. I've webbed humans to the ground while my fellow servants of Sauron tore them to shreds. I've used destiny points to change my appearance and gain new powers.

The Free People of Middle Earth will learn to fear me! For my spider is always hungry...

I still don't see what the satisfaction is playing a toon that is pre-made for you.  Why not let people play there own character?  Hey if it's your cup of tea, good on ya.  I would rather get ganked by someone 15 levels above me than play a pre-made level 50 toon that I had no control over leveling.  Plus why would I want to do PVE in a PVP zone?  That's how you gain points to add-on to your PVP pre-made toon.

You do realize....that you do get to play your own character?  (fighting against the mosters, of course) Of course, you have to be an upper level player character to do so, and you have pve and pvp objectives to accomplish in the MP zone as a player character.

Meanwhile, until you grind your way up to the upper levels, what sort of PvP can you look forward to?  You can create a monster, and jumping into battling with the "big boys" right away (OK, you have to be level 10...not hard to reach at all) ....no painful leveling curve to crawl up before you can enjoy pvp fun.

And don't think that "pre-made" monster is going to get you very far.  You need to skill him up a bit too (not as much as your player character) by completing Pve quests "and" killing other players to get more destiny points to spend on better skills and abilities. In fact, your =player character earns Destiny points which I believe can be spent on either your player character or your monster. (have to let someone with more MP experience confirm or deny this)

People have been doing Pve quests in a Pvp zone for years, in almost every MMORPG game out there, on almost every FFA server ever made.  I've yet to see a game where the bulk of your character advancement (aka leveling) is done through PvP content alone (although Mythic is promising that in WAR we'll be able to do so, but it will be less efficient than  mixing it with Pve content)

Besides, if you are a pvp purists....having a level playing field where skill is valued over gear this would seem to be the perfect solution.

Of course, its not FFA, open world Pvp..and I can see what some folks don't like that idea.... that's fine... designers can't make every game fit every player.... look for WAR or better yet, AOC or Darkfall to fit those needs....
