I need to get this out of my heart, there's some heavy ranting coming, so prepare for it.
I'm just amazed of the playerbase change since last year. When I played Daoc a year ago, people were always friendly and nice and there weren't this... how to say, ruining elements. Like people cursing each other in noob-guild and constant ranting about everything possible (eg. hamburger vs. pizza made people literally mad and crazy in there). Then are these playernames, I know that it might feel stupid but names like imacow, stupidhibnoobs or leethaxxor just make me cry. It was a whole different thing say 1-2 years ago and I hardly ever saw these stupid, senseless 10-year-old-made names. Also, it feels weird that I'm just randomly invited to some group before he/she even asks if I want to join or not. And usually the one who invites me is 10-15 levels lower than me. I still remember the days when someone asked me to join his/her group, I joined and then after 10 minutes or so there was this feeling that the people in our group has known eachother for years. Now people invite me randomly and when I go to that group, it isn't organized by any means and there isn't this feeling of bonding like there used to be.
Phew, well. That was just that noob-guild ranting, If one gets into decent guild with some people in it then the fun begins . I just think that the "new people" don't have any idea about Daoc or mmorpg's in general and how to behave in there. Maybe they're settle down or something later. How do you guys feel about the current new playerbase? These were just my thoughts but I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this way

Hey,
I havent experienced this in Daoc as I have just started playing it, but I know the problem you speak of.
In a few games I played long term I experienced the problem, most of all in Star wars galaxies. After a while there were this people with names that could have only been thought of by 12 year old oversexed kids. they would invite you to a group that was organized like chucky cheese. They were a gamebreaker really, and might fend off any serious new players in Daoc, I hope they wont.
Nowdays games are called mmos, the rpg-part is no more.... I hate those stupid names to.
Well, as to the weird names, Mythic was never one to really enforce naming conventions, and now that their backs are turned (so to speak) towards WAR there is pretty much no governance. I'm currently in the LotRO beta and am amazed at how well people obey the naming conventions. (helps that they suggest useful prefixes/suffixes to you at character creation)
As to the random group thing.... its sort of an offshoot of the death of text typing. So many gamers these days are loath to actually type anything in game.... if its not voice...they don't want to mess with it. (which is strange, cause they'll IM on a cell phone at a moment's notice). Easier to just send a tell w/o any sort of introduction or preamble.
I've actually received a group invite...hunted for an hour and left the group without a single person typing a thing..... (other than maybe... lets go kill boss x.... ok, ok, ok....... silence).. Most times, people don't even say "thanks for the group" when you're done...they just drop and go off on their way.
The social aspect of MMORPG's seems to be suffering these days, IMO, and only a good guild can keep keep the game social.

Sometimes it's really hard to type when your playing one place is when your in RVR. You don't have the time to type where you are at or if you need help. That’s why most people use teamspeak or ventrilo now in the game cause it makes communication a little easier.

I left DaOC after playing since release but needed a change. Wife and I went to WoW for almost a year but came back to DaOC. We left WoW because of the sheer amount of disrespectful idiots. Since returning we have had several problems mainly because of the cross realming of clustered servers. Several times after killing someone in RvR or the BGs we have recieved tells from that persons alternate character in our realm cursing and whining that we killed him or her. Does no good to appeal them as the standard response has been " Tell them to stop and put them on Ignore".
As far as the newbie guild I quit that as soon as a character is created for exactly the reasons you state. Group invites without tells first? Yup get those a bit too. As far as the names go I hate em but unless you go to a roleplaying server your going get that. Allthough I have seen names that were very profane reported and changed very quickly.
All in all the community in DaOC is still one the best IMO but has slowly declined it seems. I watched as a new person to TOA was ridiculed by several poeple on Test server the other night after asking a question in chat. But nice thing was watching several come to his aid also.

Aint that the truth more moronic names than u can shake a stick at or like on the clasic there was one named like Xjyjusjdjuyfydhrnty all random letters, LMAO...
Game has devolved into a play me 100 hours a week to compete or dont play at all.
The beginner guilds are awful. I too have seen a change over the past year in the maturity level of players. Its sad but going to happen I guess.. Its not only the kiddies that choose the "clever' names, and I think the 'cows' got it the worst.
Maybe some of the kids will stay on Pendragon - there seems to be a lot of them and all excited about the RR13 and auto CL10. I almost laugh at them running around and creating guilds and talking about the big plans they have - but if they stay there - thats fine with me...
I think that those kids don't have what it takes to play mmorpg's anyway, it's not like in fps's when you just go into game for 10 minutes and kill everyone in there... Some of them will go to guild and become more mature in there of course

I was complaining about all of this 3 years ago when I quit DAOC the first time. I think it was all the kiddies with the stupid "meow meow" comments, the guys named "jaskjlkljashjjskkajshsdjdkljhasd the third" wanting invites then complaining because after you've tried inviting them 8 times you just gave up. I think the worst thing about those morons is the fact that they get choked up when no one invites them to a group.
WoW unfortunately has truely caused an influx of some of the worst MMO players out there. To many tell you off now, but ask for help later type mentalities, then quit the game saying everyone else is a whiner.
Sorry, I'm wicked jaded by the WoWer's of the world. And before anyone flames me, yes I know "not all" people who play WoW are jerks.
On a side note, I think I'll come back to DAOC given the classic servers have picked up in popularity, hopefully to see some of my clanmates from Black Tear on Guinevere.

If I wanted to listen to two geeks flame each other about their specs ("sword spec is GIMP, ur a retard, I could totally pwn you in in PvP..."No way man sword spec ftw, u must be a newb" ..."I was playing this game tens years before they even started programming it, your the newb"....and so on and so forth..) or whether class X or realm X s OP I'd hang out on a message board.
Oh wait.....
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
People are mostly complaining about maulers, friars and valks being op'd. I have killed those so called "op classes" many times and haven't seen anything spectacular about them. Few times valks have pissed me off with their HoT's but I think that some classes need to be somewhat better in some situations than others. Daoc would be boring if every class could only do the same things or be a jack of all trades
