This is the wrong site for opinions on vanguard from people that have played it for any significant length of time. Try Silyvenom or tentonhammer. What you really get here are alot of SOE haters, WOW fanboys and people with uber rigs who cry they dont get 60 fps.
Yes lets all go to tentonhammer and silkyvenom where we can get one sided opinions from Sigil and Vanguard fanboys at least here there are opinions from both sides of the spectrum.
That was not exactly the brightest statement I have seen here today.
You obviously have not looked at those boards for weeks or even months.

I looked at both of them a few days ago and saw dozens of "Go back to WoW noob" posts on both of them. At least the vanboys at mmorpg.com have more to say than that...
Actually some suprisingly good, honest and accurate answers there. Thanks all!
LOL, there is very little honest and accurate anything in these forums. Try it if you are curious. If $50 is a burden to spend, then you proably shouldn't be playing any online game that requires payment. You should be looking into advancing you RL fiscal status instead of worring about an online game one P. I like VG and play it regularly. I gave it a 7.8 rating.

This is so far out there. I don't know of many people who throw $50 bucks away, even if they can afford to. The OP is doing the smart thing. He's researching and asking questions before making the decision to purchase. Why anyone would advise him to do otherwise is beyond me.
PS DONT go to silky venom and tentonhammer lol God, if you think this site is one sided, take a look at the forums over there when someone says they don't like it. When you go oevr to silkyvenom and tentonhammer you're going to the forums where the Sigil DEVs themeselves hang out at. Those site are 1000000 times more one sided than any other vanguard oriented site there is. That's a god given fact. Go over there right now and search for players who stated they didn't like the game. You got vanbois over there that will completely verbally abuse the sh*t out of the original poster. If you want an answer get a buddy pass and find out for yourself and make your own decision about the game because NO matter where you go you're gonna get the same reactions
Go back to WoW kiddie!
Just kidding. Wanted to make all the SV people feel comfortable here. They should rename the site www.silkygobacktowowvenom.com. They mention WoW more there than on WoW fansites. Every thread has a "Go back to WoW" poster in it.

I think you are both right, if its a burden to spend $50 then better not play online games but it is always wise to know where you gonna put that money so research like the OP made does make sence and is smart, but the problem is with allot of people here that seem to buy stuff because of hype without actualy researching things. Research sometimes means money as some pay to see if everything told is right/wrong meaning to buy the game and test it, thats a choice people can make (well...atleast i would think people would be able to make choices but have serious doubts when reading some post, again not yours because like i said i think you where both right
i dont currently play this game i really havnt played anygame since UO went downhill few years back recently i been watching few games this was one of them now i know when most new mmos are released you see alot of PPL complaning i remeber when Daoc and SB and AO were released and about anyone i can remember was ppl bitching Is there any good points to this game ? is there anyone who acaully likes it i think there is alot of thinks that look great about this game is there any positive reviews out there?
In a word ?? YES, this game is as bad as everyone says it is.
The fact that the developers have decided to push bleeding edge graphics in a MMO should show you where this game is headed. It is all focused on flash not substance and all they are really trying to do is get WoW players with flashy graphics.

QFT. It's why these forums are better, there's no bullshitting (well less of it) and no biased crap going on. You get blunt opinions from both sides. Silky venom people will shoot you if you dare criticise VG. I agree grab a Buddy Key and level to at least 10 to get a solid taster of the game and form your own opinion of it. Try all of the spheres too: Adventuring, Crafting and Diplomacy as well as at least a couple of classes. Then, if you still hate it you can join our club about how much of a piece of crap VG really is.

Believe him cause i was one of those asshats on the SV forums who would blaze anyone who had a negative comment. Course now that the wool has been removed from my eyes i made several attempts to make constructive criticisms on SV forums only to have every single one torn asunder by the blind fools there.
Your free time would be better spent masturbating. It's far more enjoyable, it's free, and it burns more calories than sitting on your ass playing VG.
Though, I suppose you could do both if you're big on multitasking. It would also give you something to do while hoofing it from one side of the game to the other.
It's not that it's a bad game, it's just an uninspiring game. It does everything that any other MMORPG on the market does, and takes longer to do than some.
You basically have humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, and a few other uninspiring races divided up into predetermined good and evil sides that go out and play wack a mole for countless hours on end so that they can level up. Or you can do crafting writs for countless hours on end so that you can level up. Or you can talk diplomacy for countless hours on end so you can level up.
The NPCs stand around with their thumbs up their ass waiting for you to run up and ask them how many critters they want killed, or where to run the Fedex package to. Everyone speaks to you in politically correct terminolgy. Everyone looks like the typical white anglo saxon protestant suburbanite. The flavor of choice is vanilla.
There are no strip joints, drug dens, drive by shootings, muggings, pornography, gambling, prostitution, protection rackets, carjackings, liquor stores, pool halls, numbers rackets, or any of the other fun things in life. You can't rape, loot, pillage, or burn a village. You can't even get a tattoo. Basically, all the fun things have been removed so that the game is politically correct and will pass the Joe Liberman smell test.
Actually some suprisingly good, honest and accurate answers there. Thanks all!

Hey champ, not everyone has their mommys and daddys paying their bills. Some people have a wife, kids, a mortgage, 2 car payments, and student loans. When you grow up and get your first job, you'll understand that the financial realities of everyday life encourage the consumer to get the best value out of their dollar and throwing away money is not in your best interest.
O.P., Here is the vanboi mentality. Do you honestly want to be stuck in endless grind groups with douchebags like this?

50 bucks is a lot of money for a game that is just plain bad. Especially if you own a home, have a wife and two children and a carpayment not to mention college loans. I spent 100 for me and my wife's accounts. By all means, I love to see both sides of the opinions. If I can save someone 50 bucks or a hundred then I feel that Ive done some good to the world.
My advice for Vanguard is this:
Get a buddy pass and try it. Dont pay full price and then try it because you have a good chance of not liking it.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Talking about asshats on the SV forums lol...the biggest one over there is LoamPounder
Do a search on that winner, you'll be truly amazed how brutal Vanbois can really become.

I couldnt agree more with these guys in general O.P
Going to Silky Venom for unbiased opinions on vanguard is like wanting an unbiased review of the new ford car from your local ford dealership. ^^ Or more to the point its is like going to the official fan site of any computer game hoping for an unbiased review and advice on whether to purchase. I wish i had a buddy key but alas i gave mine away and we quit vanguard before the payed subscription period kicked in. But ill keep my eyes open as a few of my friends purchased as well, they have all quit but might have some spare buddy cards that came in the boxes.
Generally fans of any MMO that is taking punches as big as vanguard is in the online community will not be interested or refute MMORPG.com because it is neutral ground and to be fair an independent site for ALL mmorpg games so what is said here tends to be very strongly opinionated truths.
I hope you get a buddy key soon and are able to try out vanguard for yourself and form your own opinion.

Could you possibly link some of this chaps more hostile and prize winning posts please Enigma i would be very interested in reading them. Purely from a morbidly curious point of view. ;-).......
that would be a fair assesment, if game playing was a need, not a want. The 50 bones spent here, compared to the wife and kid, is a waste at it's best- If you are in that situation and can't afford to 'miss' on a purchase, then the person you quoted was accurate, you have more important things to do, 'champ'

I disagree "Jerek". Isnt that the name of the Adventurer plastered on the front of vanguard boxes? Mmm ok i think i have your level.
He has simply stated that it is important when in that financial reality of having dependants and responsibilities that you want to ensure what little disposable income he has he wishes to make sure isnt wasted and spent wisely on a quality product which will provide entertainment. Not that he's utterlly scraping the barrel and stretches himself to pay fifty dollars.
Just give the guy a break ok. He possibly over reacted initially wth the "Mother and Father" remark...but he obviously feels very strongly about the money he spent, from a limited disposable income, when paying for the sheer "Quality" product that is Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Because lets face it, if it was popular with the online community and taking the gaming world by storm my friend these threads and us posters wouldnt be here.

fair enough i guess. I live in a similair cercumstance myself, I just assume money spent on entertainment is what it is- hit and miss. Of all the things you can and should say about a game you didn't enjoy, complaining about the money equates to a gambler crying about his losses, it happens, and if you spent the rent on it, its your own fault. More than anything, its the attitude of the post itself.
as for Jerek, its a name I first used in 1997 in Ultima Online. I don't even remember how I came up with it, and don't use it in games anymore (halosk in VG). It is a more common name than you would think, and I don't envy those that do use the name, have fun with the 'jerk' comments.

I wont debase myself with using "jerk" comments against you as thats not what i am like and secondly youve done nothing too deserve rebuke. Your Above points are fair comments my friend. I agree with your sentiment about the Post being a little "flash in the pan" in terms of attitude but i feel the fellow is just feeling fustration like many others perhaps.
I just found the name interesting as i could have sworn it is also the name of the adventurer on the vanguard cover. Nothing More.
Unfortunately (although i may be corrected) i believe its the guy with the axes that is Jerek. ;-)
Even though he may be ignored by mere mortals, i believe there was a video i saw on the internet a while ago with him fighting the undead in a castle and he isnt somebody id like to piss off...;-) He certainly didnt look the conversational type though.

Course now that the wool has been removed from my eyes i made several attempts to make constructive criticisms on SV forums only to have every single one torn asunder by the blind fools there.Talking about asshats on the SV forums lol...the biggest one over there is LoamPounder
Do a search on that winner, you'll be truly amazed how brutal Vanbois can really become.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
All the best

Could you possibly link some of this chaps more hostile and prize winning posts please Enigma i would be very interested in reading them. Purely from a morbidly curious point of view. ;-).......
Thanks and Regards

Mortis-
that would be a fair assesment, if game playing was a need, not a want.

Best Regards
Mag.
Ha Ha.
Ha Ha. regards
