I was in beta. Game crashed and lagged like a pile of horse-****. So I browse the forums to get the pulse of the game, see if they have fixed the problems yet, see if they have released some kind of 1-day trial so I can see it run.... and then buy it.
but instead I read:
- if you can't afford a liquid nitrogen cooled NSA quantum computer, then go away, we don't you. You are not hardcore enough.
- If you ask for a buddy-key, then you must be a gold-farmer from Asia, so we are not going to give you one.
- Sigil picks and chooses which forums they preruse and respond to (no official forums), so they can ignore anything that doesn't feel positive.
- SOE raises the cost for station players (i was on eq2 as well) at just the right time to COVER for some game I can't even run?
Maybe it is time for me to give up on playing VG....

No, that was an example of someone with very good common sence that made a very valid point.
If there was any intelligent discourse being had about the pros and cons about the game, some of you in this thread might have a legitimate point. But very few here actually want to have a discussion, they just want to lash out. And the very few times an actual discussion was going on, how long was it before the monkeys showed up to start flinging feces everywhere?
Instead, all but a handful have taken a polar opposite stance on the game, refusing to accept the fact that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Those that hate the game can not, and will not believe that some people can run the game at a decent frame rate, and don't run into all the showstopping bugs that others crow about. Anyone stating that they can run the game just fine is called a liar, a SOE employee, an idiot, or far worse. Frankly, I'm more inclined to believe some stranger claiming to have a bleeding edge system that can only run the game at 5 fps at the lowest of the low settings is the one lying. If indeed they have said rig, and are only getting 5 fps, then they're doing something horribly wrong, or they've got a funky driver or something. Cause the game runs just fine on my less than bleeding edge pc. Better than it does on some older games. Only areas that give me issues are the crafting areas, where my framerate drops to 25 fps or so. And Hathor Zhi, and I've no clue why it does that there. Bugs? Yeah, I've seen some, like when I spawned under Aghram upon login. I fell through the world once a couple weeks ago when I jumped on an incline in wolf form. I'm sure there's been other bugs, like the one where you didn't get the full amount of xp back from your tombstone if you killed any mobs prior to retrieving it. But I don't ever notice those, because I'm playing a video game, not scrutinizing a spreadsheet to maximize my gains.
The pro camp, probably tired of being constantly called liars, SOE employes, and/or clueless idiots for the last month and a half, refuse to listen to anything, reasonable, truthful or not, and just lash out at anything resembling a negative post out of habit. And of course, the anti crowd just loooooves to point to people like vdabracadabra or whatever his name was, and say they're the poster child for the VG community, knowing full well what a load of crap it is. Yes, most of the pros don't make a bullet point list of every single flaw in the game to date in every post. They don't have to. Every other post in every thread does that for them.
Still, you people have some work ahead of you if you intend to beat out the SWG forums for sheer angst, , and overall idiocy.
In other news, I had a dream today where I killed Tom Cruise. Took a good bit to kill him, too. Finally, he slid into a river of mud, and hay bails, gone for good. But not before giving me a human finger to take somewhere... The Vatican, I think?
Funny part about forums is that people can never seem to grasp that if a game is good it will succeed and if it sucks then all the bull shit the game is great posts will not help it other than a few box sales which do nothing more than piss more people off because they feel cheated then. Viral advertising does not work when the game blows chunks. I swear it was deja vu of Dark and Light. I watched the forums go from 99% "all games release buggy and they will fix it"posts, to "omygawd I can't take this shit anymore and yes you can have my stuff" posts.
Yep, I partly agree. But then you also have games like EQ2 which were huge failures at launch, with people basing the game and leaving all over. One year later EQ2 was fixed and thousands came back. EQ2 is still going strong today, it's even in the top 3 on this site
As for VG, the difference is that the game is just not finished at release. That's a huge difference. With things like 3 spheres, player run cities-faction play, etc.., it has much more potential than EQ2 had at launch.

Well said Cold but I think this forum is more civilized than most. Also, I would argue that the so-called "Haters" do much more for the game than the Vanbois. Although some hatred is irrational such as those that hate SOE no matter what because of SWG, but I think you can get some nuggets of constructive criticism here. More so than any other forum I have run into.

If players felt like they've been cheated or felt a game they have been diligently following for five years ends up as a third rate MMO, they're going to voice their opinions about it. It's human nature and it happens in every facet of life. If you love the game wonderful. That's awesome. But please keep in mind there are others that aren't in your shoes and just as you felt the need to post about how much you loved the game and why are there those who wish to bash it, there are those who feel as if it's a rather bad game and they need to post about how much they are disappointed in it. And it's especially true with Vanguard because for so many of us, it was suppose to be the MMO that we've been looking forward to play for years. Some of us have been waiting three or more years without a main MMO because everything that came out in 2005 and 2006 was just plain crap. Vanguard was suppose to be the answer to many of our needs. Brad painted a beautiful picture of what the game will have. The only thing was Brad forgot to mention the things the game would not have as well But, again, I am very glad you love it. I hope you get many of good hours and months playing it.

I've exhausted all my particular pro/con points about the game, however its still fun to participate in the forums. There are going to be those that will continue to beat a dead horse its the nature of forum life. You hit the nail on the head as to why I continue to browse this forum: watching these people leaop to defend the honor of a stupid game. It's just too much fun; way more fun then playing Vanguard. The haters are amusing too, but the folks on the other side are just hilarious sometimes.
It never fails to crack me up how the Vanguard Defenders leap to the rescue of the game they love (or are trying to convince themselves to love) whenever someone criticizes it, as if the critic is attacking them personally or just ran over their dog.
I've seen people react less violently when someone insulted a member of their family.
I bought and paid for the game and gave it a good chance, but it's not for me. I'm not crying about the money I wasted on the game, but I will tell others what I thought about my experience with the game.
