DDO is a nice game. It is not a game for hardcore players unless you dont mind finishing it in about a month or 2, but for the casual player its very nice. Character creation/planning is fun and fairly complex using the wiki and d20srd.org, the LFG interface is a thousand times better then the one found in WoW and the dungeons have a nice atmosphere.
Nevertheless, codemasters uses AT&T as provider, and that one has an extremely bad connectivity to Spain for Telefonica clients. I can only say this for sure for telefonica clients, but the fact that the spanish forum is totaly dead, and that not even in the general forum i was able to find any players in spain makes me believe that this problem also affects other spanish ISPs.
I played DDO right after launch for 2 months and reactivated my account recently. Back then, right after launch, spanish and greek player had insanely high latencies. For players in spain it was 300+ and for greek players even much worse. The reason for this was because at&t was routing the players from europe to usa and back to europe. It took codemasters/turbine many weeks to fix this, so when i finaly canceled my subscription, the last few days i finaly had a latency of roughly 100ms.
Now i reactivated my account, and the ping is still in the 100 range, but with a constant packet loss rate of 5-15%. The effect of this is that other players and mobs get stuck (missing movement data) and then "rush" to where they should have been running already (once the data starts flowing again). This makes for some rather choppy gameplay, which is especialy annoying on a rig with decent specs, being able to run the game at full grafic settings.
I wouldnt post this if i wouldnt have made absolutely sure that neither my computer nor my connection is at fault. I play as well MMOs as also shooters and stuff like rome:total war, and especialy with shooters (eg q3 engine based games that offer an extremely nice netgraph) i can monitor my connection to servers all over europe and skandinavia.
SO before buying this game or reactivating your account, make sure to play a free trial, because codemasters/turbine does not warn about this, nor refund any payments nor even reply to it on the tech forum.
i'm sorry i got to post this, because it is a fun game for casual players, but their policy towards players in spain is horrible.

I've been having this 'packet loss' problem too for the last three-four days, I just gave up playing and canceled my almost expired sub until either I change ISP or they fix this problem, whatever can get me to play normally again.
btw I live in Italy not spain and I've always had latency/lag problems with this game
