Its true. For the time you waste trying to kill mobs that are higher levels than you, it really isn't worth it anymore. Even killing people higher than you doesn't do much, even when its near impossible to do in most games...
And this is why I am waiting for a game where levels are inexistent, and you raise stats by using a certain weapon for a certain amount of kills, leveling your skill in that weapon/skill tree. Kind of like Fable...
Even so, isn't there still sometimes an incentive to kill above-level mobs. Namely better drops and quest rewards?
Incentive is you wanting to do it in and of itself. You know for the fun of it.
Better drops and more experience shouldn't be given. A level 50 mob, should have a maximum payout of a level 50 mob not some bonus. And the reason is if it can be exploited it will be frequently exploited so don't give that bonus. People are frequently looking to min/man while others are looking to cheat/exploit the system. You have to hit those exploiters down extremely hard.

Yep, they prefer you to grind same level mobs over and over, not actually challenge yourself to do something...
