WoW will still be up in 2010 and afterwards, and here is why.

Believe it or not, there are still people who regularly play Diablo 2. If people are playing Diablo 2 in 2007, people will still play WoW in 2010. I am not a WoW lover and never have been, but be realistic, people.

who said it wont be here in 2010?

If SWG is still here in 2007 after it came out in 2003, certainly WoW will still be here.

There's little question WOW has the staying power to be going strong in 2010.

That being said, it's going to need a hella facelift ala EQI luclin circa 2001 to compete with what will be out by then. I'm not worried about the strategy / depth element as more content  will eventually introduce more character customization.

Problem with WoW is it just has expansion(s). Therefore, it will start showing its age.

It should evolve in the same way Eve Online does (graphics will be 100% updated, you will be able to walk in space stations soon, and new integrated voice comms etc.)

WoW has fairly frequent updates in which they add new content, mostly dungeons.  They haven't had any complete graphical overhauls yet, but they have added a few things like atmospheric effects (rain, etc.).

I would say that was a damn good answer

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

there are old games like 10+ years old still kicking. Diablo is still doing OK because its free..

However look at diablo now. unless you use bots or dupe items there is no point in playing the game anymore, everyone trades in duped runes as CURRENCY... there is not even a handfull of legit people left... And dont even bother to try and pk in diablo unless you know a legit clan passworded game otherwise everyone in the game with have duped and hacked gear.

Its a pathetic state for a game to exist in.

Let's just say you aren't that observant of your peers.

It's a shame such a larger number of you outside the WoW forum hate it so much. It may be static but it has a lot of charm. This video exemplifies a lot of that charm.

I dont see how wow still alive by 2010 is surprizing. It is an awesome game and if blizz give it a graphic update and a few more things it will imo still be one of the top in the genre. The '3rd gen' games that are all coming out dont really offer anything revolutionary different. I'm no wow lover btw, I had a fantastic 18 months there but finished playing last year.

2010 is only 3 years away now...

Noone ever said that WoW would die in the next years. The only thing that is being said is: There are quite a few interesting games coming out soon (on paper) which will most likely (hopefully) take away some of the subsribers of WoW. How many people will change games is entirely up to the quality of the new games coming out. Will they fulfill the faith and hope of todays mmorpg observer? Will the games hold what they promise on the webpages?

I have a problem with that sentence, so im either going to assume you havent kept up with the upcoming games or your outright creating your own reality.

That being said i have no doubts that WoW will still be going strong in 2010. I dont play the game and never will but the game is an ICON of the MMO genre and im sure many will be drawn to it because so many have played and have been happy with it.

Hey, Diablo 2 battlenet is around, and it sucks compaired to other games.  Shit games never go away, just look at Runescape.  In the next few years, wow's roll will be to POP everyones MMO cherry, then enlighten them into better games.  So I tell people to play WoW to learn what a game should and shouldn't be.

QFT. In many mmorpgs, there is something they have that is special,  somethat that no other mmorpg has. With that special "something" it keeps the players in . For Daoc it was the RvR and the awesome faction wars it had, for CoH it is the amazing custimazation and super powers. However, for WoW it is really hard to say becuase although the theme is based around Warcraft, it is still  a somewhat generic fantasy base game. WoW has nothing amazingly unique that you cant find  in other games. The pvp is not special, the setting is not special, it is  just the most balanced mmorpg ( even though it may not seeem so at times). WoW needs  a special something.

There is pretty much no debate whatsoever on whether or not WOW will still be here in three years. Its got too much going for it to ever comepletely slip away, especcially not in such a short timeframe. Will it still be the overbearing giant of the western MMO market it is today? That is the real question, and my answer would be no, it will not. Too many players are looking for something new, and Blizzard simply isn't providing. For example, Warhammer and LOTRO each has their own strengths, and each appeals to many of the characteristics that keeps WOW popular today, while still providing something significantly new (If only, in LOTRO's case, brand new content). Age of Conan, depending on how the launch goes, might pull some away directly, but I see more of its playerbase coming from other sources, fans of DAoC (plenty of these following Mythic to WAR of course), AO, AA,  CoH/V, EVE, etc. At this time, I'm assuming all three of the previously mentioned MMOs are released in a finished fairly well polished condition. MMORPGs after '07 will likely continue this pattern, equalizing the field, now that the market has finally begun to grow out of the (lets copy WOW!) phase.

Of course WoW will be going in 2010. With its current subscriber base? Probably not. But it will be going.

EQ1 and UO are still going, and they were released in the mid 90's. There's no reason to think WoW will lose enough subscribers over the next 3 years to warrant cancellation. You can bet there will be a lot more competition in the MMO market though, and WoW most likely won't be the juggernaut it is now.

Of course, then Blizzard will come out with the Diablo 3 MMO and the whole thing starts all over again. image (wishful thinking)

    MMO history:
    EQ1 - 65 DE Wizard
DAoC - 50 Dwarf Thane, 50 Dwarf Healer
EvE - Amarr, Caldari BShip Pilot
    CoH - 40 Ice/Ice Blaster, 40 Dark/Regen Scrapper
WoW - 60 Undead Priest, 60 Tauren Warrior
    LoTRO - 30 Hobbit Burglar
    Currently Playing - Tabula Rasa

who cares.  some games are still played and some arnt.  big deal.  but ill tell you what i think anyways.  i think wow will still be played for awhile.  if people still play ultima then surely people will still play wow.  but not alot since age of conan and warhammer are comin out.  those two games look awesome.  but age of conan is the better game.  argue how much you want but it is.
