WAR Table top

Does anyone play the Table top game, I'd prefer WH40k info. Anyway how hard, or easy, is it to really play this game? I've played D&D a few times so if it's similar in someways that would make it eaiser.

Also I love how you can make ANYTHING a game table, but the actually zone like areas are crazy in detail. Sadly it is fairly expensive to play this game (squads are around $15, HQ/Specials are around $15, and vehicals and other units around $35-50). Also I don't know anyone that plays WH40K so it might be a lost cause :(.

I just want to play casual, not hard-core or anything of the like. Maybe a few games a week just for kicks, possibly build some small Tank Traps, basic field, etc. Note: I would like to play more for the fact to keep me busy, I'm very very bored.... uuughh...

Any help would be awsome!

please please please do not call it WAR table top...Its either Warhammer fantasy or Warhammer 40k... or the other spin offs..

Here's the home page for the game..

    http://games-workshop.com/

But you could also search like your yellowpages or googlemaps for a hobbie shop of comics store or Games-workshop... and they can usualy help..

The game isn't casual at all... it takes alot of effort to get started but if you're really interested it can be really fun.. But you can buy a starter set for like $50 which includes two small armies and all the books/rules/codecs to get you going...

    us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/gettingstarted/intro.htm

most places play once a week on like sundays or something...

I've never played Dungeons and Dragons so I can't really comment on the difficulty of that...but I have been casually into Warhammer 40k for awhile now.  The rule set is pretty complex and difficult to learn, luckily, there isn't a rule that says you can't have your rulebook by your side while you play.

It's one of those things where you are going to want to get one race of warriors, and stick with that, so be sure you study up on the race that suits your playstyle, and which you think you will enjoy assembling and painting the most.  Unless you have a lot of disposable income, you're not going to be able to amass large armies for multiple races.

If you are really serious about playing the game, you don't really need friends near you who play it, you might be able to find a local hobby store that holds periodic tournaments, through that you'll meet new people who you can play in between tournaments.

As for your desire to build table tops...Table Tops are some of the most rewarding things that you can build for any kind of table game....Seeing something like that come together into something that looks good and can be played on is really cool.  There are many different walk throughs on the games-workshop website, as well as a few kits that you can buy with damaged buildings if you don't want to build from scratch.

There's a wide variety of tools that you will need for both army and table building...You'll want to invest in an air brush if you are serious about making your models look good, as well as a mini compressor for the air brush...A set of high quality brushes is also essential, you'll need basecoat brushes, brushes designed for dry brush effects, fine tip brushes, and a standard brush for the less detailed effects just to name a few.  You'll also need a wide variety of paint and possibly a place to mix them in small quantities for when you want to be very exact on your color schemes.  A sharp hobby knife and/or Xacto knife will also be essential for cutting away flashing and extra plastic...and if you want to make your bases look good, hobby stores sell terrain things such as gravel and fake dirt that can give your models a nice finishing touch

For Table building, you'll need all of the above in addition to a large open area, spray paint, some sort of water tool (such as metal pellets which can be melted and formed to your terrain) as well as doodads such as rocks and boulders...having extra models for making corpses is also a great touch, though it can become quite expensive to do things like that.

Hope that helps...it's a fun hobby to have, and it doesn't HAVE to be terribly time consuming, though the pieces that you will be the most proud of will naturally be the ones that you spent a great deal of time on..but it's a labor of love.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I used to do that sort of thing when I was in my very early teenage years. Be prepared to spend alot of time and money if you want to be good at it. It was alot of fun though. I only stopped playing cause the hobby shop I played at shut down and the only other one to reopen was too far from my house so I couldnt go anymore. But the people are usually fun and there are definitely worse ways to spend your time.

Ya I figured WH40k would be a kick in the pants for money, but it does look awsome! I guess I'll try to get some, the closest hobby shop / comic shop is where I use to live, roughly 30 or so minutes away from where I live now. I don't have a job any more, but I'm looking for one that's near my house, my old job was out of the way and extremly horrible (yelled at for no reason at all... really), and the pay for what I had to put up with is NOT worth it.

Nevertheless, I will attempt to play, buy (small force, maybe 1k-2k points worth). My mom has alot of painting supplies and way too many brushes, also my dad has small air compressors so that saves some money. Most I might have to get is new paint, exacto knife (maybe), and some fake dirt/grass for bases.

I might play as Tau for their long range attacks, in actual video games I'm not a close fighter kind of guy. Just stand there while I drop artys and bombs all over the place . I have alot of time to use up so that is indeed not a factor, money and location is.

I really love that game. Have been playing it for a few months with a painted dwarf army. It is really fun to slowly become better and such. Especially conversion work. Thats amazing

It will take you forever to paint an army... the paint and stuff costs like as much as the models if i remember correctly. And dont expect ur paint job to look like the PRO done ones :) its hard to paint those little guys.

I played loodbowl once. That was fun.

And I've played the pen and paper Warhammer Fantasy Role play game. Really well written. Probably rthe best written roleplay adventures I've ever played. All set in a fantsay version of Germany.
