Nah, I certainly didn't go wrong anywhere. I might have been replying more to the pastiche of ridiculous arguments I've seen in here, but I stand by every word in this thread and the concurrent one running in the Guild Wars section.
Anyway, like I said over there, I'm tired of this thread, we will all see soon enough. And if I offended anyone, sorry you feel that way. Except for Flaming Boi. Jackass.

You do realize, that most of those who are really annoyed having to pay monthly fees to play are those without the means to - students, and people under the age of 18 who haven't gotten a permission to use their parents/friends visa's. This means every kid from around the world will be able to play this game, and this is a lot of types not usually associated with MMORPG's. Also, many older players will be annoyed by this fact as well. This is moving out of topic, stepping back:
Yes, Guild Wars will be cheaper than the average MMORPG. This is a minor good thing - but those who spend 20+ hours a week playing a game, thats 100 hours of game time a month - 15 cent an hour, it really isn't a whole big deal. I would rather have a game with great content, gameplay and player base - having me spend 15 $ a month than a free game which is slightly worse.

Originally posted by JAttractive I have to admit that the lack of a monthly fee is actually the one and only reason I think this game will fail. Look at all the failed MMORPGs out there who have had to shut down before ever being completed because of the cost of development. Somehow this game has to not only recoup that cost but maintain servers. How can that be done with a financial model that in theory will bring them in lower revenues? Well you have to skimp somewhere ... So does that mean they skimped on the initial investment?
That's where you are wrong.. Compare a game like World of Warcraft to a game like Baldur's Gate or Diablo(2). The later 2 games sell a ton more copies. The monthly fee is the 1 single thing that holds most MMORPG's back. Many people would love to play it but are unwilling to pay the fee every month.
Guild Wars will attract much more attention.. it will sell millions of more copies world wide. That alone will keep them going for a long time. But then there's the expansion packs again.. selling much more copies than any tradition MMORPG would ever.
On a monthly basis Guild Wars will bring in less money.. but what they are counting on is bring in much more money at game launch selling that many more copies of the game. Plus the expansion packs.

Do I have to seperate you two? If I do you will know I'll make both of you play The Sims Online for seventy two hours straight. In which a girl with the name of Kendra will try and make you get her personal information. Then, after she after she succeds she reveals herself as a 41 year old man named Bob who works for the FBI. Is this what you really want?

Financial isn't going to be an issue perhaps, because NC Soft owns Arenanet and thanks to the 1.5 million dedicated Koreans (I love those guys and how they die for their games) they won't run out of funds any time soon. This works against Guild Wars in a way because of the opinionated-poor job NC has done with (overly hyped?) L2.
Former Blizzard Employees + Wonderful People Who Brought Gamers L2 = Good gameplay / female models having fifty percent more boobies and no monthly cost?
