Is my mobo dead?

Hi everyone! I don't know if this is the right forum, please forgive me if it's not.

Anyway, my notebook won't start. It happened after i reset it from windows.

Just black screen, no bios info, i see hdd led is on for a couple of seconds. After that nothing is happening. I took my hdd out, started laptop, exactly same story with the led light. Btw, power led light was on.

No warranty. asus z71v. not supported by asus anymore. Time to upgrade?

Well, given the model, that thing must be two years old.  You should have gotten more life out of it, but yeah, I think it's time to upgrade.  Unless you customized it to have the maximum specs when you bought it, which I doubt, it's not going to run anything even half-decently at this point in time.  I'm guessing it was a P4 1.86 with 512 MB of RAM?  Yeah, that wouldn't even run LotRO very well, much less a performance intensive MMORPG.  Forget about a new shooter or RTS.

If the power gets in, (ie, the switch do something) and then nothing happens, then yeah, I think your motherboard is gone. Basically any other piece, CPU, RAM, Video card, would let the computer stay on and perform a series of "beep" (or just stay on black in case of the video card).

If the power switch does nothing, then you might be lucky and the problem could be in the power supply. But from your description this does not seems to be the case

You could find some computer repair store to check to see if they can fix your laptop if you still want to use it.

If not, then it is time to get a new pc/laptop

    Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR

Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)

If mobo is really dead, than I would just sell it on ebay and get a new laptop. I put too much money in this notebook(upgrades). Don't want to spend anything on repair. All I need is new barebones and CPU.

It might be sleeping.  Splash some water on it to wake it up.

Open it up, remove the memory modules, hard drives, cables or any peripherals.  Check any connections between the mobo and the monitor.  Change the cmos battery on the motherboard.  If it still doesn't boot up then yeah it is beyond us to fix.

If it boots, add the memory, and peripherals one at a time (inbetween bootups) till you find the culprit.
