Gotta say... I went back in with my free trial with both my original accounts. Didn't really care for it. But I think what I liked most about SWG was getting in on week one. I played half the night for almost the first six months (my wife looved that But, what was cool, was that you could always get decent 10-20 person groups. Because it took awhile in the begining to work up in levels. So you need a team to do the good stuff. It made it fun getting to know people who you could meet several times a week to work XP and money with. Haven't found a game with as much to offer yet. Don't get me wrong, lots of games have better graphics, or better quests or this or that. But SWG offered a pretty big assortment of everything. Especially for when it came out.

Do the mobs still aggro and shoot at you through walls, ceilings, floors etc while you can not shoot back because of the line of sight bug?
If that problem isn't fixed then theres no point in going back.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
wait until after the 23rd legacy quest mission....
I got the same impression as you but for me, the best part of the game was the Starbase noob quests. After that, it was just really boring to me.
Im really glad you like it but I'll never be able to look at SWG again after SOE and LA raped the hell out of it because of a 30 minute luncheon brainstorm in Julio Torres office of idiocracy.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Never give up and never surrender!
Well.... when I looked back on SWG a while ago I was AMAZED upon how LITTLE content that is added since the NGE was released. They have introduced ... skill trees ... and they haven't even added them to ALL the classes yet... so most have the same ol' monotunous linear and awful skill-wheel....
The game just plays and feels weird. It's like if the original was a painting on a wall, and then they tried to scratch off the paint but only got off like 50% of the paint, then chosed a completely new color to spray over the old painting, but ran out of color to cover the whole painting so now it's a mess in-between.
Probably the longest and most weird explanation upon how the NGE is but don't be fooled by the game, after a while you'll notice how shallow the game is and when you reach the so called end-game there's nothing to do... unless you think it's worth staying there to juts play around with your house or so on.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "

Thankfully there's more to the game then just the Legacy quest series, nor are you required to do them if you don't enjoy them Also, Julio is no longer part of SWG, he's now the producer for that new Star Wars game coming out soon.
OP said, "...Mos Eisley is packed".
Packed with what? Sure ain't players, at least not in Radiant as I was there a few weeks ago and the place is totally deserted. I cruised to all the cities, all the usually places and saw no one. And when I did it was 1 person and usually afk at that. Forget about space, even the npc's have hightailed it out of there.
What they need to do is merge, do like AA and maybe this way it'll look like a lived in place. But let's be real, Galaxies is long gone, long gone.
Sorry this game is no longer a MMO, just a fancy FPS. Every character class is exactly like every other of similar level.
It is a faint shadow of what it was. Don't get to attached to it, soon as you find something you like, Sony wiil change it, guarenteed.
