I need some info on PVP, i am not a carebear so don't bash me over the head and try to convert me. I wanna know if there are going to PVP servers at release, and what kind of rulesets they will have. My guild is eyeing this game, but were hardcore PvP guild first and foremost and were looking and doing research on what kind of PVP this game will have. There's allot of confusion about this game, mainly the pvp aspect of it .
I appreciate the input.

Sure it's the end-game, but what about the beginning and middle game? I haven't heard them mention anything about doing anything PvP focused except for end-game.
There's several other games coming out that are more PvP focused than AoC. They even show it.

This game has the best potential pvp. Go read the official forums to see what they have to say about it. There are a lot of cool things plus it adds a little skill to it knowing that you do all the attacking and blocking yourself instead of you randomly blacking or parrying the other player. Also, when they are low on health, if you crit them to kill them, you can take off a limb or behead them. Much cooler than a zone that is 75% pvp and 25% pve, I would rather not be limited.
Also, on the topic of pvp in the beginning of the game compared to others, the beginning 20 levels of this(out of 80 levels) is solo play. So obviously the beginning in AoC has no pvp. They have systems already set up to stop griefers and the like by making guards kill them or jail them based on how many people they ganked and when they die from the guards you can loot some of their gear. Very cool if you ask me.
btw Fury is being produced by Auran, they're in Australia, and AoC is being produced by Funcom, they're in... one of those european countries where everyone is named Bjorn or w/e Switzerland? Anyway Funcom created Anarchy Online and so they have some pretty good experience in terms of pvp and mmorpgs. Not so sure about Auran's background. I'd guess they have some pretty seasoned vets in there though.
It is pathos we lack, and this lack of pathos makes the worlds we explore quite stale.

I thought they said that they were adding active defense where if you have a shield you can choose where to block, rather than having a 5% chance to randomly do it. Even if that isn't true I still think it has the best shot of good pvp compared to anything coming out. There is more freedom and consequences to it compared to WAR that says if you cross this line you are pvp enabled. If you cross this part of the map you are back to pve only.
I hope you and your guild aint one of those "zomg! we rule Halo!" because thats not really PvP. When you can unbalance the teams in Wolf ET just by joining allies or axis is when you are hardcore PvP.
Joysticks < KB/Mice
I suggest you either get into beta or wait until actual release of this game and read thorough reviews before making a decision that will affect your entire guild. I commend you on being all out PvP ( beats fighting AI ) and this is my honest opinion.

Oh and KB/Mouse is FAR superior to a controller because of the far better precision of the mouse and the dynamic setup and number of keys available on a keyboard. The only games where you'll find it the other way around are ones where you have auto-targeting or 'sticky targeting' on the console version.

I have to disagree with the mouse being FAR superior. On the screen you have 6 directions, and it's at the bottom of the screen, which means you'll have to be looking down there when you click to make sure you're hitting the right directions. That means you're not looking at the battle, which means you're probably missing a lot.
With a gamepad you don't have to look at anything other than your opponent(s) on the battlefield. You don't have to look at a circle of arrows and make sure you're clicking the right ones to do the right combos. And with 4-move combos you're going to have to make sure you don't miss a click.

When it comes to ranged attacks, the mouse is quite superior for use. I think that almost anyone who has ever played FPSes for any length of time would agree. For melee combat, remember that clicking those buttons is only an option, the default method of control is using the numpad keys.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

I gotcha there. I agree that the mouse will be superior when it comes to ranged attacks, but also can you imagine trying to move, look around, and hit the numpad keys at the same time?
I mean I guess you could just forget looking around with the mouse and use WASD to turn and move (even though the turning with A and D is generally a helluvalot slower than swinging the mouse around) and press the numpad keys with your right hand, but I just think they're going in two directions with their attacking.
1. If you're only doing melee, to me it is going to be 100% more intuitive and easier to move around and press directions if you're using the gamepad.
2. If you're doing ranged attacks, to me it's going to be 100% easier and more intuitive to use the mouse/keyboard combination.
I just don't see how people will ever be able to play a Hybrid Ranged/Melee class efficiently. I mean after a long time of switching between mouse and numpad you might get good, but it just sounds like too many things going on at once.
Note: These are all opinions, and I"m not using any flamatory remarks like "stupid" or "dumb" I'm just stating my opinions.
