Whether he played for 4 hours, days, or weeks, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that he played it long enough to concluded for himself if he thought it was fun or not. But what he discovered was that its a poorely made alpha-quality product that is unbelievably boring and repetative. He didn't find it enjoyable and he gave valid reasons why. Nothing he said about the game was untrue. You can disagree with his opinion all you want. Maybe its just not his cup of tea but it is yours, but that by no means makes him brainless or ignorant.

"When you find yourself sinking into Madness, dive"
Originally posted by Civil Apparently The fact is, most new player experiences aren't fun...
Depends on the game. I would argue that if a game is truely good, it should be enjoyable at all (or at least most) points. A game, like life, should be more about the journey than the destination. If it doesn't get enjoyable until the end, I'd say it was just a big waste of time.
You know the funny thing is that I played this game over a period of a week and arrived at the same conclusion (level 18 Orc on the path to become a Monk). Theres just nothing new, customization is very poorly done (and thats not even a big deal to me) - over all the coolest thing about this game was my PvP experiences - I particularly liked the dying sequence when I was filled with arrows and fell face down into the ground lol.
I think I'll leave this one to the pedophiles out there and be moving along.

I completely 100% agree with your statement. It's one of the biggest reasons I subscribed to EVE online. I'm sure many people found it to be boring but I, on the other hand, found to be enjoyable becuase of the game's depth, complexity, community and beauty. Right from the beginning, I was able to accomplish personally meaningful goals.
In closed i end as lvl 28 elven knight, in open i played few chars: dark elf mage (around lvl10 i quit), human knight lvl 24
From what i found unfortunetly this review is true.
I have little warning to those that think that at higher lvl its more fun, unfortunetly not
As I played in closed i tried warious things (as tester should do) reported countless of bugs, writed lots of ideas.. and what a funny they stop answering on my e-mails, i think they added me on ignore list, big lol
And returning to warning, if you try to group, kill tough monsters and try have little fun you are screwed up in the end... why? simply: cash... yes cash called adena in game... only way to get cash (not applied fully to dwarves) is from drops from monsters ok now to the point: -when you group cash is diverted by numbers of peoples in party, you end leveling faster than earning cash -if you kill tougher monsters (white, yellow) you get not much bigger cash drop than from blue (20-30 adenas diffrence) you get more xp and need to rest much, you end leveling much slower and having such small amount of cash...
Now about cash: to level less painlessly you need get as much cash for as best possible equipment as you could get), if not you will lvl like 20-40% a day... YES 20-40% to next level for a day of playing and this make you really insane in really short time as you be killed be much lower but much better equipment pks and bots (yes there are lot of them and pk is good way to earn cash, further i write why) And furthermore most interesting part as guild wars and sieges will be much delayed in time, to a year even as without level 60 you are so called "easy pickings" in battles wars (look at korean servers and what is going on there), simply not enough hp and p.def (player defence that reduce taked damage) so you are agree that you dont want do that? as fast as possible to fun part yeah?
Ok so to keep your equipment almost up to date you must kill blue dark blue mobs to simply earn cash (xp isnt so bad as you do it without rest time and cash is "good" enough) and doing this is even more boring that party hunting (no chat no time for this in real party hunting, except of help, tank him, support me and so on), how long you could kill same mobs in one place endlessly? i cant long really... and even in game its writed that you found mob spot and camp it, so basically game is for camping spot over and over, boring as hell...
Now to funny part, when you die even for mob when you are white you very often lose something, even things that are equiped, try losing sword for which you farmed 2 months and you will feel cheated (i dont lost but meet in closed player that lost... sad), and now peoples and community there are some nice guys but 90% are assholes especially on ti and in dungeons or other good camping place, even if you party with someone and think: "oh nice guy it fun to play and chat with him" this dont mean nothing, it could be griffer that let you into trap to let you be killed and will try loot everything you droped: "easy cash" as they say, even if he isnt such asshole when you die (maybe accident) he will try loot you, if you dont drop nothing he will give it back to you "good friend" but try to lose something really valuable... hehe guess if he give it back? simply money is such great problem in game that even i had tough decissions but fortunetly to my ego i gave it back;)) before you think bad about them think that they have great chance to boost they money as your droop could mean 10-15 days of farming on mid levels...
I dont even mention bots that are really in great numbers especially in dungeons and good camp spots There are lots of persons that are not neutral but clearly hostile to you and they wait only that you go purple (especially in accident its easy in party fight to attack wrong target such nice thing in controling)
To those that say simply dont die and look out: first try to look out and be in full alert 12 hours and you will earn my deepest respect, second dieing due lag/crash is very "popular" same as dying becouse of spawn mobs behind your backs (aggro, most if not all higher lvls are aggro) when you fight, you are usually dead if you are not at full hp, and they are not green/blue, even then spawn of 5-6 blue is a bye bye to you, (knight skill ultimate defence could save your but, if you have it charged up, 20 minutes charging time if not more), so dying is very easy, and you cant do much to be safe from it and losing equiped items to this is big step if not fall back
Lags are great especially in cities, i cant imagine full scale battles, lag party, and about sieges that you all piss in pants about it... you know how often it will hapen? twice a month 2 hours 4 hours fun in whole month and rest is mindlessly slaying mobs... and those dragons you want so badly... you are nuts you know how much costly food eat wolf in an hour? simply wolf that lvl 15 char could get and is not worthy anything? 5000 cash in an hour, from mobs you get 100 (if you are lvl 20 and kill blue ones)so kill 50 monsters theoretically to feed wolf for an hour... no wrong kill 100 mobs as they drop adenas in 50% chance... how much food you need for an hour of having dragon? And furthermore you need to level up dragon so you will hunt whole day to than level up dragon for an hour... is it fun? not for me
Conclusion: in my opinion lineage have beautifull graphic, nice designed weapon and chars with few flows in it and yes one bad thing virtually everyone is a clone, looks strictly same but gameplay is never ending trademill, you dont found a end of it, never, always slaughtering mobs, always and always, map is beautifull too, but no interaction with it, nothing, no player owned houses, not entering to houses (only few empty in city you could enter, that are one emty room and shops) and map... its so damn small in 2 hours you could explore it all on foot. Mobs stay on fields everywhere, nice field with groins and great spiders on it, npc staying near a road to speak with him (no point doing this) and great monsters walking near him (aggro ones). Walking to fields full of mobs is like entering neverending battle. No worth more time than one week, not worth more money than 10$ for start client and free month (than you will cancell subscription probably)
I was waiting badly on this game, when i saw movies i do WHOW, but when i start playing it started to be very boring and repetitive, do same always and always, i could put bot except of my char and no one will know this if he dont start speak with me... thats why bots are so popular here... Its not important if you are lvl5, lvl 10, lvl 20, lvl 30 or lvl 75 (cap) it look same, diffrent armor, skills and mobs, but same game, same slashing mobs
Oh i was playing eve too and cancelled subscription when this game came along i think i will get a little fantasy game for few months before i return to eve (new content will be added) but i returned to eve so fast that i almost braked my fingers when i wroted credit card number;)) My name in eve is same as here so if someone want could pm me there:) im usually 6-7 hours there:)
Ups i did it again i wroted review.. eh old habits of old person:)
While a large part of me was offended by this review, I have to admit that everything he said was very true! People have different tastes, and I do not look down on people for liking or disliking a game. For my money (which will remain firmly in my pocket) Lineage 2 is not only a rotten MMORPG, it is one of the lamest games of any type that I have seen in a number of years. Still, there are people who enjoy it . . and that is what counts in my book.
thats the best damn review i ever read...finally a reviewer that isnt recieveing income for reviewing game. some people may find his review offensive but all his moments of offensiveness are just passion for how he feels about the game

Ah well, one less game to worry about.
