Worth returning to?

NigherisNigheris Member Posts: 70
I started out playing Ultima Online in 98, then EQ, then EQ2 and finally WOW, I left WoW because I got bored of the crap. I miss my SHM I had on EQ, is it worth returning to EQ to play?

Best way to find out is to give it a go. You never know you might enjoy it.

Don’t forget there is an 8th year anniversary edition with all the expansions for $19.99, it will be out April 23rd.

Let me help you don't bother wasting you money again for the game in april because I am sure there will be and other expansion and it will cost you more money and the game will still look the same no changes to the look and and the lack of intrust that has been killing the game. EQ need to stop spending money on expansion with new zones and just make a change to the old zone where charactor are made . Graphic is it help the old zones and make them new. EQ was a great. I am sure you can find away to bring back the evercrack   again. (once a player always a player)

Hmm.... you've missed a few threads. With the TSS expansion, SoE introduced a new race, a new starting city and basically a new game. From this city outward, no matter what race or class you play, you have a new newbie city, new progressive zones and new loot tables, quests, adventures, mobs, ... Which doesn't even touch on the newbie starting tutorial area - which is older than the TSS expansion, but totally new!

At the same time, many of the older zones have been upgraded. Both the graphics and the content. Admittedly, not enough (IMO), but many of them have been reworked.

I'm not saying this is enough of a change to answer your comment, for you. But it is an answer/attempt by SoE to do exactly what you say you need. :)

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.

i have not played the game really too much, but i do know that the progressive servers were fun and i would probably return if they made them again but actually didn't let people rush through them. I liked the game a lot until SOL, i think that with the amount of players there is too many zones. I mean its bad when you can go to a zone that used to be crowded like KC or LGUk and actually noone will be there. Its just weird, too many pointless zones now they should not keep expanding they should redo the game completely with its zoning, i don't know what SOE was thinking, its like a single player game unless you're in a raiding guild now and lvl whatever now but you can't solo lol.

But as far as returning, there is a lot of new stuff and i am not sure the last time you played but you don't even start in your newb city anymore, i think that sucks big time. By far i think eq had superior gameplay and the most skill until they made it so pets couldn't break mez and bards had to stop twisting songs. I think they took a lot of the challenge out , i always want to return to EQ as for me there is no alternative to the game yet, i played it since release until Gates of discord. Its tough just not to resubscribe to my 65 bard that was on innoruuk and just start playing again, but i don't think i would be able to do much because most peolpe who play are way above that level now. Anyways, that is just my 2 cents, i say give it a shot  but only for one month and don't buy the new expansions unless you're really interested in the new content.

Ya I fogot the new zone with new characters but still the old and dying zone are left empty like ghost towns and look old with no updates they just keep doing expansion to hide the old. maybe the should just take out the old zones and make them go away. It is said tell me something I am sure you have a high lvl peep and dont ever go back to where your character would have started instead of the caves. Just remember the times. It is sad when you play EQ for a long time you fill you accounts with maxed out characters but you still see no up grades the game is stale and boring to where you just move on to play other games.  I still think that EQ is sitting on there hands and will come out with a couple more expansions and one will be the home run again. I hope!!!!!!!!!

Well activated my account again, LvL 66 Vah Shir SHM... WOW alot has changed since 2004 (When I left) The Guild I was in "Watchkeepers on Tunare" had just entered Time when I left (Did all the work to get there and left before the first time raid, what a waste) and now the Planes are BARE, like you said a Ghost town. I do think it would do the game more good if they would rework the old zones, I mean that is what was drawing me back in to EQ.

Not really sure what to do or where to go in game to do anything, befor I left I could solo real well, tried last night to solo a light blue mob and almost got my tail ripped off at the neck... Re-learning to play is going to be fun to say the least I guess. I played EQ since the SoL expansion, I started right as it was released and left right after I bought OoW, and left to go play EQ2, that lasted all of a few months and I played WoW, just stopped playing that in December, tired of the Ganking (Stupid me followed friends to a PvP server) and the "NEED" for raid level gear. That and the fact I was neglecting my 7 year old Twins. I think after learning to play EQ again and from what I have been reading the gear in Grp content is far more advanced then the Raid stuff I currently have on, oh and my Spear of Fate :p

Thanks alot for all the comments here you all are a great source of information and wonderful opinions.
