Hopefully if I pick a non-DPS class in WAR I will not face the same sort of horrible slaughter at the hands of someone who rolled a class with PvP advantages built into their class.

there is no primary healer/buffer type in WAR. Everyone is DPS its in the video that Paul himself promised. there is no one sitting in the back just clicking 'heal'. everyone will be designed to contribute to the fight

Right, and I understand the whole idea of Warrior Priests and Righteous Fury building up with attacks to be used for healing and damage spells.

The problem that WoW has and WAR could fall prey to is that primary damage classes have an almost ungodly advantage over a healing class in PvP.  The reason being the healer's migration is very poor and their hp is low.  Also, priests have a very very weak from of Crowd Control (mind control = long cast time/short duration and scream = fear that has 12356346 counters).

In short, as a Priest in WoW, PvP isn't something I'm balanced for.  I love the Priest class, and all of the doodads and gizmos I get.  Sadly I can't survive in PvP for longer than four seconds.

i say woo hoo too, i played WoW to death and had 3 60's and a few 50+ and none were stealth, and what really put me off WoW and the world pvp that it contained was.....during the night that TBC was released there was around 1k of characters in the blasted lands waiting for the portal to open (mostly alliance toons) me being a 60 undead warlock i was running round in a 1/2 raid with random people trying to get some fair PvP in, and all of a sudden BAM! i get ravaged by a T3 feral druid 1 shotted and dead, now my warlock didnt have the best gear in the game but it most deffinately wasnt the worst either so i run half way thru the blasted lands rez by my corpse and eat and drink to get my hp up (hidden in a little valley between hills) after i regen i get up and run to join my group and then BAM! same feral druid ravaged me again, now to this normally i would say fair enough PvP server and all that so i got nothing to complain about but this druid seemed to take a personal dislike to me and stealth camped my arse for 1/2 hour straight i would look for him to hear the whole "stealth sound" but never getting a thing shortly after this i logged out dead and didnt go back to WoW, there is nothing more irritating then going around as a cloth wearer and getting 1 shotted by anything and for this i commend mythic and hope they keep the no stealth thing in game

i really dont see how its such a big deal, i could care less either way though. stealth or no.

as for wow,i despise the game. but unfortunately i wasted quite a bit of time playing it.

rogues in wow pvp, open or not are pretty much a joke to anyone who knows how to play their class. As a warlock id just keep my felhunter out for pvp seeing as how it eats buffs, and gives an area buff that reveals anyone trying to stealth near you. So they never got the jump on me,if there was any class i had trouble with it was paladins (but you wont see me wanting the class removed). Aside from warlocks, anyone playing any class that doesnt have a gameplan for how to handle such basic aspects of pvp as a rogue stealthing.. really doesnt know how to pvp yet,and they probably get squished every 3 seconds anyway.

And as far as rogue having very little value in PvE, this could be true for other games. But not for WoW,in big raids a few good rogues are just as important as good tanks, healers etc. Highest DPS in the game at the time I played. And I cant count the numerous times a few more mobs than was expected got pulled, and things got a little hairy..that  I didnt die because a rogue buddy would be there to grab and hold agro with their high DPS spikes and allow me to run to safety before they use the skill (forgot the name) that allows them a chance to hide in the middle of battle, losing agro and saving us all alot of time.

Stealth or no stealth, I doubt it will have little effect on the overall outcome of this games success.Something tells me its gonna be..as a good friend puts it "same shit, different animals",At the very least id point out cheering on the lack of features for a game is a sign of how desperate people are to find a game that is different. Im not gonna be jumping at this one, something tells me id get on just to witness the mindless banter of 12 yr olds and the endless barrage of chuck norris jokes. I hope im wrong because Ive always loved warhammer, would be a shame.

Come on now, if something like stealth is such an issue for you... you may need to rethink your approach altogether.Anyone who makes a rogue just because it can stealth..is gonna suck anyway.

Just my 2 cents, keep the change.. I doubt ill bother reading anymore of this heh.

I'm having trouble believing your story and here's why:

    1.  Druid T3 is a healing set.  It has nothing that would benefit feral.

    2.  He ravaged you for 4k+ dmg?  Not likely.

    3.  The portal was open before midnight a day before the release.  People who bought their game at night were able to go directly into the portal.

Why would you waste your time posting nonsense?  Why do all of the haters waste their time with nonsense posts?

4k+ ravage is ridiculously high.  If he was criting you for that much he not only had the best feral gear but was uber buffed at the same time.  On my warlock I've never been ravaged for more than 2.7k circa lvl 60 and I've fought people completely decked out with aq40 and pvp epics.

ok to the both of you, first off, its not nonsense, if you dont belive me fine no problem, but i know what happened, and it ruined a fine game for me that i have played scince launch and have had countless hours on, im no hater i still think the game is a good one but i will not play it anymore in its current form, because its not for me anymore, and to the second guy, the original post is about no stealth in WAR and talking about stealth and how its a bad thing in a game, i was replying to the OP about my experiance with stealthed players then replying to a guy who quoted me, nothing more nothing less so it is relevant to the posts flavor, im not bashing WoW as a whole. as i have played it well over 1000 hours scince launch, i am bashing stealth in WoW as i thought it totally overpowered, and i am glad that there will be no stealth in WAR, end of discussion
  • KaiaphasKaiaphas Member Posts: 134
Adders, sure it happened.  He just had every dmg buff in the game on him.  it ruined the game for you because you couldn't kill him.  Hopefully something like this doesn't happen to you in WAR.

To all those who say "stealth is good as long as it's used the RIGHT way..." I just want to say that I've never seen a game that has even been close to using stealth in a good way! Except Battlefield 2142. And that's not even a RPG!

Most of the complaints I've seen revolve around a class' capacities in stealth and not really stealth itself.

So glad that they did this. I hope however theres some form of camoflauge or illusion that would fit in fairly decently with how "stealth" works in table top. Also, i forsee it being slightly difficult to fill out Skaven(i know not in release but my hopes for first xpac lol i see far into the future) without some sort of "Stealthy" like class at least. Even dark elves need some like that. The 2 best assassin races in lore.

From what I understand units with stealth or a camo effect usually hid within an allotment of troops and could be brought out.  That means that for a large part of the battle the unit remains hidden, I suppose.  I think that kind of role would go against the ideal which WAR is shooting for.  Everyone fights in order to gain a type of ability points to do different abilities.  In order to function as a rogue or other stealth class the rogue has to have an "opening attack" which is very powerful.  That would require taking points from the rogues action pool which would be empty if they weren't in combat.

Funny most any guild I know of is never looking for rogues. And from your example a warrior can do that 10x better (hold aggro). Thats what secondary tanks are for not rogues. I can probably go if challenged and look at 10 top raiding guilds and prove none of them are seeking rogues. I know we never needed any we always had way too many of them

In CoX stalkers get the shaft- rarely getitng invites in the late game. Clases based on stealth rarely maintain the high DPS out of it. Rogues in WoW are really cheap. They can stun you when you're trying to mine- taking the precious, rare minerals you worked hard to get to. They can camp your body all day long because you cant see them when you're dead. So, if its a high lvl rogue / druid forget bout rezzing you gotta hit the angel. Many of us are burned out on seeing rogues in every MMO as it is- I'd rather challenge the Devs to use their imagination and take a chance to create something new.

And if they must have stealth- then look at how Battlefield 2142 did it. They used their imagination and come up with something that doesnt ruin the fun for everyone (everyone in the map has a chance to see a cloaked recon if they pay attention). But really I'd rather they just leave it out because MMOs just havent been doing it correctly. Stealth classes all come with lower health and some sort of 'backstab'. I swear someone should get sued cause I'm seeing Rogues in like every MMO with the same abilities. I think even LOTRO has some sort of stealthed mob in their monster play and a rogue class.

I want something different, I want WAR

  • kraidenkraiden Staff WriterMember UncommonPosts: 638

DAoC had 3 stealth classes in 1 realm. Archers and assassins where both stealth classes and towards the end of the game people found out that classes that soloed well, didnt fit into the group aspect of the game.

    Classes that supported, fit well.

if the game is so hard core that the primary healers are on the front line with a six foot long hammer smaching skulls, why on gods green earth would there be stealth classes that hide in plain sight?

  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

Okay here is a Dev post on this issue fromt hat other thread:

"Stealth, meaning the ability to become totally invisible, is difficult from a game balance perspective. It's no secret to anyone that we have (in Camelot) added more and more counters to invisibility over the years. This is because there is no strategy to deal with an invisible enemy.

Okay, I take that back, there IS a strategy - "be the SECOND guy to see the assassin." As MMOS go, though, it sucks to be the FIRST guy to see the assassin, because it's not so much "seeing" as "attempting to draw breath around six inches of cold steel."

If we could go back in time, we would probably not include invisibility in the rogue toolkit. We would have agility and wall climbing and special tactics and more, but not total invisibility.

And there won't be invisibility in WAR as a result, even though there will be rogue careers."

Like I said before anyone that knows there history knows how problematic stealth classes are to PvP. It's simply better not to have a class that has true invisibility and 'backstab' abilities.

There are (or at least were, haven't played in years) two types of 'stealth' in tabletop Warhammer, camouflage and disguise.

Camouflage units (wood elf scouts, for exmaple) were placed on a terrain piece pre-game, and would remain invisible as long as they didn't move or attack. Also, they'd be discovered if the enemy entered the same piece of terrain.

Disguised units were the ones which hid in regular infantry units (fanatics, assassins) and remained hidden until said unit entered combat, at which point they effectively became a second unit leader.

Both of these could work in WAR, I think. If a camo unit turned translucent when in <insert terrain type here>, they could still be seen as long as you were paying attention. As for disguise, perhaps an assassin could have the ability to appear to be a member of another class when not engaged in combat, thus adding an element of surprise and forcing the enemy to adapt their tactics.
