Ok, i wanna play DAOC and ive just finished downloading the trial but it says I have to pay. Does this mean that I dont have to buy a CD because ive downloaded the game?

Also, i saw you could buy expansions for the game, do i have to buy these and what difference does it make (as it is an online game)

You don't have to pay but I believe you do have to input your credit card information.  You have to cancel the account before your 7 day trial ends else you'll be charged on the 8th day.

DAOC has 2 expansions:  Shrouded Isles and Trials of Atlantis.  Shrouded Isles is very nice to have and I'm quite sure the only players who don't have it yet are those whose computers won't handle it.  Trials of Atlantis is for at least level 25 in a group but the majority of it's content is for level 40 and up.  As such, you don't have to worry about that right now.

BTW, you can buy DAOC Gold Box Edition which includes both DAOC Classic and Shrouded Isles for about $20.  It includes a 30 day free trial which is a much better time frame in which to decide if you like it, especially if you're not accustomed to this type of game.  It also gives you access to three new races (1 per realm) and 6 new classes (2 per realm).

Cill Is spot on. I notice from your bio, your a brit image. If the version you have downloaded only permits play on US servers you could be severely dissapointed. Daoc is now almost devoid of noobie players. Before i quit it saddened me that all the noobie zones were completely empty. Almost all of the daoc population are die hard players and powerlevel their new alts and have two accounts/buffbots.

If your tempted to play this game it may be better to get the euro copy of the game and play on one of the brit servers. You just may find a brit guild who will offer help/guidance and with euro servers being low populated welcome new players. I played on the US lanc. server...pouplation rocked there image. If you just want to check out daoc a good class to try for soloing try a albion necromancer. Just keep finding undead enemies and drain them. They are prolly the most self sufficient class i know and don't need armour. Daoc is a game based around finding groups....hence i say that it can be very frustrating now with the noobie population gone.

Daoc is the best mmorpg period.....ruined by the fact mythic made it only playable for the powerlevelers/uber loot collectors....i know people who had level 50 infiltrators/scouts who had never drawn a sword.

Just a small nitpick, there are only five new classes, not six. The Albion realm only has one new class, the Necromancer.

Necromancer and Reaver. Can't forget the Reaver, Albions answer to Thanes.
