FFXIII currently on plan for multi-platform, Sony fighting for exclusive rights

I typically avoid the Sony bashing, and I dont really like making console threads as im really sick of them, but this one is just too good to pass up. The Playstations strongest game line is now in the hands of other consoles. FF 13 will now possibly join in with the likes of Assassins Creed, Armored Core 4, Ridge Racer 6, Ace Combat 6 as lost exclusives.

If this is true the odds of me picking up a PS3 are getting slimmer and slimmer.
DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.

I kinda thought it would go multiformat as BluRay is far too costly to soley produce on, they should have given the devs the option to use DVD, either way if it does go thru it's a HUGE blow to Sony as DMC and FF(numbered) where the main excluives to the PS, does this also mean that any SE or Capcon title won't be soley for PS3? if so thats sorry R.I.P PS3 in my books, unless a LOT of smaller devs for it hit the BIG time

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

OH SNAP! Now that's some hot news. I do believe that MGS4 is next. I didn't know that they lost Ace Combat 6 and Ridge Racer 6....oh so cold. Sony put this on themselves.

Easy decision then for me which console I'll be getting in a year's time or whatever.

This stuff is just making me wait even longer to buy an XBOX 360 or PS3. I'll wait until this fall/next spring to see what happens.

Who knows, Microsoft could release ANOTHER updated XBOX 360 and/or Sony could release and updated PS3...

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I'm actually REALLY surprised reading this. when I think Final Fantasy, I think Playstation, despite other Final Fantasies has been released on other consoles (such as Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube, and the remakes of the snes games on GBA and DS) Since Final Fantasy 7, the Main series have always been on playstation. As a big fan of the series, I was actually considering buying a PS3 for the series. but this is great news, as I already own an Xbox360.

Yes Meth....I read the article. It dosent take x-ray glasses or a abacus to see that Square is going Multi-platform with their front running series, like alot of companies are starting to do. Developing on a single platform is not profitable right now, espically when dealing with Blu-Ray and Sonys Cell processor, low number of PS3's in homes, and the heated console war in general.

Square-Enix, and the rest of the developing companies are looking at it like this; "If we release on just the PS3 right now, the max number of units we can sell is 1.5-2 million, but if we put our game on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the max units we can sell is 12-13 million, add another 5-6 million to that if we favor the Wii as well."

Companies want more money, that simple. There is no money to be made in publishing for just 1 console anymore, unless its an in-house game, which only Nintendo does, and I suppose MS if you want to count Microsoft Gaming Studios.

I have said it once, twice, well I don't actually remember how many times I have said it. Anyways, I'll say it again; third party exclusives HURT the gamers.

No game outside of the first party games should be exclusive to one system, it only serves to hurt us, and benefit whichever company is allowing them to do so. Companies like Square, Capcom, and Konami are just some of the companies I am talking about. They make great games, which never usually make it to all the systems. This means they make less money (despite Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo paying them millions to keep it) which also means they will make less games. I don't know about you guys but I really don't give a sh*t if Dead Rising, Final Fantasy, MGS, or any of those games get released on multiplatforms. It will only bring us more games to play overall.

    More money = more games.

Choose your system of choice based on first party exclusives:

P.S. Its kind of sad that the two biggest games that are associated with the Sony Playstation brand are not first party games. Sony needs to seriously work on their first party games and not rely on Square and Konami to bring their sales up. The only series that really rings a bell is God of War. Which is a relatively recent game series.

First thing I think of with Xbox:

    Halo

    Fable

    Nintendo:

    Mario

    Zelda

    Playstation:

    Metal gear Solid

    Final Fantasy

So from the Comment "exclusivity is being Discussed" You took from that that its NOT exclusive? and Decided to name your thread "Game CONFIRMED as mulit-platform"

You didn't even add a question mark to subdue it... Thats Why i said it's a decieving title...

The very fact that Sony is discussing it means that they are trying to MAKE it exclusive... You may not know this but Sony didn't have to do much before to lock up an exclusive.... and Now they are actively GOING for one? thats a good thing..

I know Exclusives are harder than ever to lock up because of growing costs and so and so... But How in the world Do you get that Multplatform is confirmed ... from a statement from Sony saying they are ACTIVELY going for Exclusivity?

Note: Worked out... with a ballpark guesstimate.. it could cost sony ~50 mil to ensure this game as an exclusive...

Changed the title so you will stop bitching, and avoiding the topic at hand.

Now, back to said topic, how can you call Sony having to fight for this "a good thing"? The main Final Fantasy series was a given as a PS1/PS2 exclusives, but as of right now Square-Enix has better plans. How you get this being a "good thing" out of the whole thing is beyond me.

Dosent matter who it is, you have lost your influence if you are having to fight for games that were once exclusively made for you, and there is nothing "good" about that. If, Sony does infact lose this game has an exclusive, they are in big trouble, because there are more than a few handfulls of people out there that would buy a PS3 just for a FF game, people did it with X and XII.

Im sick of all the console talk myself, eventhough im the author of this thread. But that aside, you have to be just insane, or ignorant to think this is good news for Sony. No offence, but crist....

Its not a good thing for sony that they have to fight for this...... Hopefully this will be a swift kick in their pants that they can't expect to win this gen with just their brand name alone...

Its a horrable thing that this discussion is even going on... While having FFXII Multiplat would be an awesome thing for gamers in the short run... I'm definitely not arguing that... I just would rather you not jump to conclusions....

It would be a great thing for gamers, thats the whole idea. This game is critical to Sony, if they lose this game to MS or Nintendo, we can get serious about it being over for the PS3.

There is a steady streak here of occurances just like this. Assassin's Creed, Ace Combat 6, Ridge Racer 6, Armored Core 4, Saints Row, and now possibly FFXIII, and the enevitable MGS4 in the future. Thats 4 PS3 games that were at one time tied exclusively to the Playstation, 1 360 game gone to the PS2, and 2 toss-ups. The industry needs to expand, and 3rd party exclusives need to dissapear, EA learned this lesson ages ago, the rest of the world needs to take notes.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree

Not that I like EA too much, lately the quality of a few of their major games has been slipping, but they still produce pretty good quality stuff.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Strange thing... almost all the games i currently own are exclusives (timed or not)

If its one thing I've learned from multiplatform titles is that the quality is degraded... i.e. Ubisoft, EA.... the biggest multiplat whores out now... and except for a few titles their games are usually very lacking...

I would much rather put a game on a console and exploit that console and push the game to its limits... Then having to support the lowest denominator...

also if you notice... most of the best rated games ever have been exclusive (timed or not) also the same with sales...

That said... I think it would be great if some developers in their multiplat attempts..... Its a win for gamers of every platform.. .if Final Fantasy is a great game on all platforms... But its not so great if one system is gimped.....

    And also

    Assassin's Cread Before being a PS3 exclusive ... was actually an Xbox360 exclusive ..

Saints Row was always an Xbox360 game... Did you mean Grand Theft Auto?

Ridge Racer has been on almost every platform including GameCube, PS2, Xbox... so no exclusive...

But what about games that left MS exclusivity like Splinter Cell, or GRAW, or Eternal Saga, possibly Bioshock

everyone is becoming multiplatform.... Which to me is really starting to make it hard to justify more than one console at all.... MS, Nintendo and Sony need to just come together and make an uber console...
