I'm sure that this game isn't going to be a duplicate of PS but I do think that there needs to be more MMO's made like huxley  thats based on the MMOFPS model. Now having said that here are some questions that I have with some probable questions that some of you can mix around in your gray piece of flesh called a noggin.

How many critically acclaimed, and outright popular MMO's have used ads in there games?

What is the reason why Webzen would put ads in their game?

    Potential Answers....

    #1

They put ads in the game to make the game cost less for folks to play whether right at release or later on.

    #2

The developers already know ahead of time that the games gunna bomb so they need as much money as they can right at the start. (I dont think this at all but I thought I would put in here as a potential answer anyways)

    #3

Webzen isn't made of money and really does need advertising money to make the game work, and with updates and new content that needs to be made, this makes it necessary evil due to development costs, debugging, etc.

Heres another question that I have that might be of some use to this discussion......

Has there ever been a successful MMO that had any ingame advertisement?......(I don't believe so) but don't hesitate to correct me on that.

Theres more potential answers to these questions I'm sure but please feel free.

My answer: Money and Xbox Live. Short and simple, that's how I like it. Damn, now I've lenghtened my post with useless babble.

I think having in game ads would increase my immersion. Just because its post apocalyptic doesnt mean every company we ever knew died and capitalism no longer happens. I think its funny seeing real world ads in game.

Maby they put ads in the game for those people who never leave the house and only play MMOs all day, they are missing out on the advertising that gets shoved down our throats in our daily lives that we dont even notice anymore because we are soo used to it

I think answer #1 is probably the closest correct answer.

Also, Planetside is/was a success.  It seems like MMOFPS Sci-Fi games only appeal to a small hardcore niche of players.  They're definitely more hardcore than what most RPGers are used to.  Especially the twitch style PvP systems that we all so love.  Planetside is still one of the most fun games on the market, and considering it is about 5 years old (I think), that's doing pretty good.  Another indicator of its success is that it's the benchmark everyone seems to identify for comparison to Huxley.  That means it's a "standard" which means it's a success.  It's still the only really successful MMOFPS I'm aware of out there.

There are advertisements in Planetside and I actually like it.  My girlfriend stops playine WoW and stares at my screen whenever she hears a commercial in the background.  I turn my character around and watch the commercial just to show her.  She thinks it's the coolest thing.  I find it to feel more immersive personally.  The commercials are mostly futurisitic, so it feels like a commercial that would be in the game naturally.

I look forward to Huxley, it seems like a "planetside 2" alternative.

do we know how it's going to be implemented?

similar to what MrBloodWorth said..."on what grounds do you assume they are going to reduce monthly cost give use increased server space, or constant updated content (which we should be getting anyway).

Im not overly finicky myself to some degree. but after the fiasco that EA pulled with BF 2142 and with SWAT 4 i do not support games that have adverts in them. Call me what you will, its my opinion my feeling nothing more. I have yet to see any company utilize adverts in such a way to pass on the savings in any form to the consumer. Just wont happen, all this crap about not making money please, get real people, in the lowliest of companies make out like a bandits with 10's of millions in revenue. EA though is the most infamous and notorious of grounding into the dirt and misusing power of adverts.

Like anyone I wouldn't mind if I had reduced fee's per month maybe $9.99 instread of $14.99 as well as employ more artists, programmers to hammer out any bugs, enhance the game, and add more content faster. even on the adverts alone, dont let them fool you, they are making litterally millions in deals with every single corporation they sign on with. millions! thats not even including the revenue they get from us. So dont be ignorant into believing this is the end all be all salvation and oh its no problem, you complain to much, or you are a worrywart, or you have to adapt. I personally dont believe i should adapt to game companies taking advantage of me to push adverts in my face. I get enough of that crap on tv and the internet. I play games to get my mind free and out of my daily grind, not right back into it.

needless to say, i have yet to see adverts done right, and i dont expect it anytime soon. and me seeing an ad not going to make me want to buy it anymore than usual. just doesnt effect me liek that, if anything it annoys me and preventws me from wanting to buy that product.

Or it could be the fact that the 3 sci-fi mmofps were not that great....

planetside was fun but it had no reason to take or defend a base other than fun.

neocron was fun but very buggy and it wasnt really twich based

    endlessages was buggy and independent.

(combine the 3 and it would be a hell of a game)

wwiionline was too slow at the start, took to long to get to the fight. And just like planetside it didnt beneif your char to take a base.

The ads in planetside are fine but they loop them over and over every 2 secs same commercial. They need longer commercials or a break before the loop starts again.

Mmmofps will be the next gen of mmo's as soon as they get one that is fun, well made, and polished. I hope huxely is the start of the revolution.

    Ads in free games?  Sure!

Ads in games I pay a subscription for?  Get Bent

Heres a good analogy, you watch some local TV off your antennae and its free, great, you deal with commercials.

Now on the other hand, if I subscribed to HBO, and I started seeing commercials in the middle of what Im watching,

Id be pissed enough to cancel my subscription. End of story.

If you p2p then NO AD should be ingame NONE !!!

Unless a GREATLY reduced rate is allowed with them.

So why not in games as long as it´s subtle and adds to the games immersion and boosts the game so it benefits the player then why not.

Product placements can go too far in movies too. Look at the modern Bond movies compared to the early ones.
