    Not this crap again...

Ya know, I'm tired of saying the same thing over, and over, so I'm gonna change things up a bit.

WAR will be rated T for Teen. That means that no one older than a teen will be playing the game. It will be wall to wall leetspeak, like, ok?

AoC will be rated M for Mature. That means that only mature adults will be playing that game. Every time you log in, there will be an intelligent conversation waiting for you.

Cause age = maturity as we all know. And only intelligent, well spoken adults could possibly be interested in Conan, or Lord of the Rings, or Pirates.

So, you'd probably be better off leaving WAR to the 7-8 year old audience it's being targeted to.

I think you have it just the opposite.  The Mature rating will appeal to the leet teen kiddies.  While WAR has existed for 20+ years and many older people have played any of the Games Workshop games.

2Moons is the perfect example of a Mature rating game that is infested with kiddies.

I am 33 years old and I am very excited about WAR and will be playing it for a long time.

    Or was your post sarcasm?
  • JTJT Member Posts: 401

I may be playing it because I believe the PvP will be good, otherwise I won't be playing. I'm 42 and it does get old running into some immature people, but there are a lot of kids who are more mature than a lot of adults who play these games. You will always have the /ignore command to mute out the immature people regardless of their age.

Since I'm certain that your sarcasm will fly right over many people's heads, Coldmeat, I'll post this so they won't be confused:

Lol, that's the funniest and best responce to this question I've ever seen!

Best thing about MMOGs is the nice lil button called "Ignore" And if some immature players bugger you, i suggest you use it.

Very handy in-game tool. and it excist is almost all MMOGs and i bet it will be availible in WAR aswell.

I figured it would be pretty obvious. I think we need to have a rule that all sarcasm be posted in a specific color for easy identification by the sarcasm impaired.

Just a comment to the ongoing debate. Just because ur 14-18 does in no may mean that ur a immature player... I've played with alot of 30+ who was the biggest idiots I've ever met, while I played with some who are 14-18 who was really nice. Try to remember that; age doesn't decide ur matureness.

Age doesen't matter when it comes to being mature. As long as we don't end up with the World of Warcraft crowd, we'll be OK.

I wondered when the WoW bash would appear.. its unessesary and realy shows your maturaty. For the record I'ver played WoW for over 14months and never had issue with the community and never felt I was surrounded by kids, like all games get into a guild ASAP and avoide the PUG groups where ppl leave half way through or think they can solo the dungeon.

On topic, all MMO will have kids and imature players, you cant avoide em.

Doesn't matter what the rating is.  What average kid has a credit card to subscribe to a game with?  None.

    Senerio 1

Your at Wal-mart, you see the game.  You go "mom this game is supposed to be totally awsome.  I want it!"

this is followed by, "Its $10 a month!  No!"

Followed by a spaz attack, freak out, tantrum, or guilt trip or just wears down mom with constant pestering.

So the game is purchased by the adult, who most likely doesn't even notice the ESRB rating and is not questioend by the 17 year old at the register.

    Senerio 2

Kid approaches parent, cuts a deal like, does dishes every night to pay for fee.

Kid and parent go out and get the game.

Ratings mean nothing.  Especially when they are rarely enforced by the point of sale staff and when parents arn't really aware of the game content.

Theres gonna be kids, leet speak nerds, 20 somethings and 30 somethings in this.  You can't escape stupidity or immaturity.

I think only person the rating will matter to is the kid honestly.  And most kids, (I know I was like this) want the game that is the most "adult" that their parents would let them have.  I begged my parents for Doom and Wolfenstein 3D back in the day because they were the bloodiest.

So I honestly think that games rated Mature are going to attract the "Blood and Nudity are cool" crowd rather than the "I'm serious about my grammar and play style" crowd.

We'll see sometime next year when people start praising/complaing about either the community in AoC or the community in WAR.

My money is on the community in WAR to be more intellectually mature, but I've been wrong before, and I could always lose this one. :)

Sadly I thought you were serious until someone pointed out the sarcasm. Usually I catch it but there are so many knuckle head AOC fans that what you said really didnt surprise me. You slipped in right under my sarcasm radar :P

As to the post at hand though, I think any GOOD game has the potential to have the leet speak crowd infest the game. For me though, who cares really. If the game is good I will play. If its not I will stop playing and find something else. If I can put up with the leet speak retards in wow, I will surely have a easier time with any of the kiddies in WAR.

The graphics of WoW and WAR are similiar in that they are both cartoony and thats where the similarties end. (please no flames, Im not picking a fight)

After that the differences between games and the crowds that they will attract imo, are HUGE. WoW fans came from Warcraft which had in that fanbase many young people.

BUT from what Ive seen of WAR, the fanbase is coming from WARHAMMER (not a young fanbase by any means, for the most part) and Dark Age Of Camelot (again not a young fan base.)

REGARDLESS HOWEVER of the fanbase, if the game is great it will attract a large crowd.
The more people who play, the more retards you will see. Its inevitable.

If you dont like tards, make your own guild and be very picky. Its really as easy as that. That alone will filter out 99% of the leetspeak kiddies and drama assosciated with immature players.

I agree with you 100%.  I did that too as a kid.

Getting rid of leet speak could be done easily.

Before your alowed to send a typed message to people in game, its run through spelling and grammar filters!

Even better, have a translation filter that changes what you say into Empire speak or Chaos Speak or Dwarf etc...

I think I read somewhere that this game will have VOIP embedded within the game so people can speak without running another application like, Ventrilo.  If thats the case, then it should be alright.  Leet speak people would rather talk then type.

Ok its off topic but I gotta stand up for sales people.  Sales people are NOT required by law to question adults buying a product like a game, adults are supposed to be smart enough to read the ERSB rating on their own.  Sales people are required usually by either store policy or common sense to question a KID buying the game by themselves with no parent present (there is no law that enforces this just like there's really no law that enforces sales people to ID kids buying mature rated music either).

Usually it ends up the kid goes off tells the parent the sales person won't let them buy the game, parent comes in Yells up a stink and says right to the sales person's face "I don't care" (vary rarely does it go with the parent saying no to their kid but some are smart and thank you for saying no).   Parents are responsible for their children NOT sales people, parents are supposed to raise their kids not sales people.  I don't know how many times I had to deal with parents in my face when I was a teenager working in a game store because I asked to speak to the kid's parents or refused to sell the kid a mature rated game.

Parents may not be aware of whats in the game but no doubt they are aware that games like music and dvds have ratings, its all over the news for pete's sake.  But most see either no harm, don't care, or just don't want their kid to have a tantrum and disregard it.   Its not up to a sales person to make them any more aware.

On topic sorta.  I dont know where one of the above posters went to play warhammer but I've never seen anyone under the age of say 18 playing warhammer table top.   Most kids under 18 that play table top play those new fangled minatures games with like the super heroes and mechs that have the click dial system.   I'm not saying this means yea warhammer online is going to be all mature or 18+ age gamers because 18 doesn't apply to maturity.

PVP attracts two sorts.  1. Real pvpers who fight for the challenge and the goal and 2.  Grief evil rampaging gankers.    I hardly think 2 will find a home here in WAR but they'll certaintly try and many of them will be immature or atleast peeve someone else off and cause them to act immature.

btw rofl coldmeat :) sarcasm is fantastitic.

I think Darkfall might be the game for you =) (if it comes out)

Honestly, I hope to get away from the fantasy genre of MMOG's. I can live without PvP, but prefer to have a good PvP system like DAoC or hopefully WH. I don't want sandbox PvP like WoW. As for Darkfall, I think it's as old as I am. :)

I'm hoping Fallen Earth will turn out great.

WAR is an online game.   And as online game the following theory will apply to it as much as it applied to Unreal

    http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19

I don't think the game will be any less mature or immature, and unfortunately you will always get jerks regardless of age brackets.

    ROFL!!!!

Now don't get me wrong or anything cause I loved WOW and think it was a very good game but.... Saying that  you never had and "issue" with the WOW community is like saying you never get wet when it rains.

For those of us who actually 'played WOW' and not 'claim to have played WOW' we know that that community Sucked...Maybe I should bust out a few Chuck Norris jokes to jog your memory???...

Anyways as far as WAR is concerned a good CS team will fix the chat channel problem that plagued WOW... Hopefully when someone gets out of hand they can be reported and warned by a CS team member or GM right away.  Anarchy Online had a great CS team when I used to play it back in 02-03..People who caused problems were delt with in a very timely matter ingame by a GM or CSR.
