Unlike all the others above I stopped playing this game. Thank god for beta, I did not have to waste any money on this clone. WOW with a LOTR theme...no thanks...cant stand WOW. I pray that there are still developers out there that develop.
I made it up to lvl 25 in WoW when it released then I went back to EQII. It wasn't so much the gameplay as it was the Warcraft world which I did not even care for in the strategy games, More of a Starcraft type of guy I guess. I had a blast in LoTRO beta though, best beta test I have ever been involved in.
LOTRO has been such a surprise for me... and a good one. I never thought I would have liked this game... and now, I'm dreading tomorrow and having to wait until Friday to play again. But, at least this time, we won't be losing our toons.
Now to find a good guild....

I just ran my level 12 Burgler to Rivendell. First time I've seen it. O....M....G.
The entire area is the most incredible place I've seen in over 10 years of graphical mmorpgs!!
Then, just when I thought it could not get any cooler, The Last Homely House... O....M....G all over again.
With the high res graphics I was simply blown away. Absolutely stunning. The game could entirly take place there and I would be fine with that
Problem with LOTR for me was when I looked at the class page for the game.
Its only like 8 classes ( or 9? ) and I would really like to see a game with 18+ classes all unique. Looking at warrior #8167 which looks exactly like other 8166 warriors is just so annoying.... This pretty much goes for many games but it was reason enough for me to stop considering the game at all.
I was surprised to see that LOTRO feels from day to day more empty, even in peak times. Has anybody noticed the same? Also the LOTRO is continuing to slide down the hype meter.
Do not try to suggest people are not playing because game is no good. Also do not over think the meaning behind the lack of players. Like others have responded the wipe happens tonight then 4 days down til the open beta/pre-order. I have only logged in twice in the last 5 days and I love the game. I have been spending my LOTRO game time rereading the books to get ready for the live release. Got my pre-order and can not wait til the 30th. Most beta testers feel the same way. I just did not want to see anymore til we go live. I want to keep the game fresh. I predict LOTRO will be a huge success for Turbine. There will be ton's of people waiting to get in on Friday. Turbine has had successes and failures but LOTRO will be the game to make Turbine a major player in the MMO world.

I am sick of people say LOTRO is a WoW clone. IT IS NOT! I actively play WoW and EQ2, I have been in beta for LOTRO since nov 2006 (have my pre-order ready). I try to play only 2 games at a time and so far it probably will be WoW and LOTRO. They play totally different and have a totally different feel to them. I like both and play both because I do not feel I am playing the same game.
I have played 90% of the game mention on this website. Most people who say WoW and LOTRO are the same that do not actually play both or if they do do not actually read the lore in both. All mmos play the same. Run around get a quest return for reward. Name an mmo that does not do this (there are a tiny few that break that mold but most have failed ex: Seed) What makes them different is the lore and how it is presented. WoW and LOTRO are very different. A similar UI does not mean the games are the same. The fact is if you use that comparison then all games play like the father/mother of mmos Ultima Online. If you use Stavv's comparison then WoW plays like EQ2, SWG, Matrix Online, Saga of Ryzom, FFXI, Lineage 2, DDO, LOTRO, CoH/CoV, DAoC, Roma Victor, Rappelz, Planetside, etc. etc. etc. need I go on. They all have similar game play that can be found in other mmos. Simply put WoW and LOTRO are not the same game.
When I was still in beta (which I quit a couple of weeks ago), I really couldnt see a decreasing player base, I only noticed that many players were leveling so fast that most of the people leveled each day about 10 lvls and so they were already in a different area, and kept moving on. Maybe this led to your improssion of a decreasing player base as I tend to socialise, craft play music and once in a while go out hunting.
Not really a declining playerbase. I have been in beta since November and stopped testing once I hit 50. The same with alot of people I know in Beta. theres no reason to dump a crapload of time into a toon just to have it wiped before open beta.
Im certain there is drop off in players testing only due to the forth comming wipe, i bet it will be tough to get in to the server come start date 10 days before the launch! and during the launch.

Graphics are awesome! Intros are amazing (though movements of npcs could be smoother)! i ll have a closer look into the Crafting system.
