This is another one of those "goodbye to vanguard' posts.
I have a level 19 cleric and have beening playing every night for about a month. I am in a great guild with experienced gamers who have played SWG, EQ1, EQ2 and WOW together for 5+ years.
I really wanted to like this game. My reason for quiting is not related to performance nor is related to the community.
Why did I cancel my account last night?
THIS GAME IS SIMPLY NOT FUN.
Why is not fun?
1. For a game that is supposed to be 3rd generation, it simply it not. Too many standard features are just not there---for example, an in-game map that actually works, quest logs that can hold more than 20 quests (if you are trying to do both diplomacy and adventuring, managing your quest log is a pain in the ass), much better LFG options, graphics that are SOOOOOOOO mid-90s, equipment compare options so you don't have to screw around in the middle of combat opening your equipment list and TRYING to find the comparable item you are wearing to see if the proposed item is better so you can decide whether or not to hit greed or need.
2. NPC voice acting has got to be the absolutely worst I have ever heard in a video game.
3. Too many different starting areas: people are just spread around too far so it is very hard to find groups or even people at early levels.
4. Uninteresting quests and mobs. There is no sense of adventure.
5. Only four hair styles..... enough said.
6. Leveling is WAY to slow. I am not asking for double XP weekends, but I am not even level 20 yet and I have to grind 2-4 nights in dungeons to get ONE level? I expect that when I am 30+ but NOT before 20.
7. Because I have yet to find a global story or crisis, the world seems, well, bland and normal. Not full of fantasy, magic and adventure. Instead of quests like "The barbians are forming to invade the land! Gather a force of your closest heroes and go kill their vicious leader and his dangerous horde in a horribly difficult dungeon" we get quests like this "I need 8 cyrstals from the dungeon so I can form a large crystal candle holder for the mayor's dining room." That sounds WAY TOO much like what my wife wants me to do on Saturday mornings. Just not for me.
I wish you all well, but the game is just not fun.

Unfortunately after reading your reasons I have to say:
Vanguard just wasn't for you.
It wasn't for me either, but it just DEFINATLY isn't for you. Try EQ2... I'm enjoying it immensely.

I had that problem.
This post can be boiled down to one line:

And you can bet your ass that Sigil cares right now too.
Looks like item compare is now in. From patch notes.
- Added item compare to the UI, which activates by pressing Shift while examining an item. Alternatively, you can enable the new "Always Show Item Compare" setting for 24-hour pants comparison coverage.

Well i find the game lots of fun , but i suppose thats because i actually play it lol .And if you cant use the map in vanguard than well go back to school because it shows you everything you need to get around unreal how people blame game makers for there own short comings
Graphics that are soooooo mid 90's lol , bud do you even remember what graphics looked like in say 2004 maybe try the game before you come here and try and bash it
Sigil forgot to put "Fun" in their design documents. For these games to be successful you need a bunch of really smart technology Developers and a bunch of just laid back "right brain" crazy, creative people who have a vision for the fun.
You could argue that Sigil has the technology people although that part is broken also. But there is one thing for sure. They did not have a budget for the "right brain" creative people who know nothing about technology and only want fun. The Game Designer slogan should be "It's the Fun, Stupid." Blizzard has both types of people and that is why their games are so successful.
I would guess that the people who like Vanguard at this point are people who want to "work" instead of "play" a game. Unfortunately for Sigil, most of us like to play to have fun.
In addition to technological flaws and so many other issues, the key point is fun.
The game is not fun.
I wanted it to be. I bought it hoping it would be. I still want it to be "some day."
I am still in the game, but I feel like the OP. It started without me noticing that where I once used to play daily, I now have days where I dont play, and the gap grows longer. Something is missing. Its more a feeling than something I can really grasp, but your points are good. I still think its someting in the lifelessness of the world.
I will be patient a few more months, 2 or 3 maybe. But not endless.

However, getting into a new game needn't be anymore difficult than seeing an advertisement for the game, picking up the box, and buying it.
Of the 150,000 'registered' users, how many of them do you think read fohguild.org, silkyvenom or whatever other mundane hidden medium those warning messages were transmitted through?
Even if Brad was so open as to send out press releases to big gaming sites like GameSpot, IGN, print magazines and whatever else, that's still a small bunch of people who would've been clued in about their purchase. So you really can't blame anyone who complains for not having known better. Unless it was printed on the back of the box, there was no guarantee way of knowing.
We're the ones that are unusual in knowing Sigil's corporate biography, the history of Brad McQuaid and his buddies, SOE's track record, and every other mundane thing we post about here. For the regular consumers though, it isn't unreasonable at all for their first impression of Vanguard to come from a box on a shelf.
Secondly, I agree the world is too spread out. They should have launched with 2 continents, not three. It does make finding groups somewhat harder. But they will address that with the change to allow two people to summon another.
You vanbois who blame the players for the crappy state of the game are the real problem. The Great Brad has said so...
Remember they said it won't release until it's finished? lol
My story is similar to the OP's.... I got to level 21 and realized... no matter what fixes they put into the game...I just wasn't having any fun... so I cancelled my sub....
I guess it just wasn't for me....

I'm with nether on this one. Stop trying to be like everyone else with these "I'm quitting such and such game and this is why" threads. Are you that starved for attention? Quit the friggen game, buy some other game, be unhappy with that, quit that game, and so on...... You'd think these threads are some psychologist's couch that people are pouring their weepy hearts out on looking for "closure" Here, I'll speak for Sigil, SOE, the "vanbois" and whatever: "We're sorry you didn't like the game, see ya and have a nice life"
Feel better?
Well they may feel the need to say why they quit on public forums which are here for the discussion of mmorpg and not a circle jerk of praise.
They can if they want, just as you can come across as an immature idiot with low if any social skills, if you want.

On the Grind . . .
Oddly, in the starter zone (cannot remember which one) that I began in, I found I had to start Grinding to get from Level 2 to Level 3 ! And after that, every level had more and more Grind.
Now this is because :
* Not enough Quests to go from Level to Level by questing.
* I play a lot Solo, so not Dungeon Delving or other Group Required operations.
So, that left just farming mobs for those last segs of exp for the next level. In other words, Grinding.
And for my coppers, a game that requires Grinding from level 2 onwards is just lacking in design vision.
And admit it: you care too, otherwise you wound't have bothered to read his post. I mean, the subject was a dead giveaway ...
Obviously you did care enough to post so I wonder if you're just being ironic or stupid.
