New PC to run Vanguard

I got Vanguard and it ran poorly on my PC P4 2.8 1G ram 6800GXT constant crippling frame rate drops on balanced settings. I will not give up on this game have waited to long for it, can not let it go. I am buying a new DELL PC XPS 410 Core Duo 2.66, 2g ram Nvidia 8800 GTX  will this run it smoothly on High settings?

The VanBoiz going to flame me for telling you the truth.

But, here it is.  You cannot solve V:SoH performance problems with Hardware.  The issues lay in the architecture and the old Unreal graphics engine that is being used.

If you can enjoy the game now, performance may pick up as they discover the choke points and optimize the code.  But it will take a while.

Yes, that new system will just munch Vanguard on highest quality, but you will likely have to do some tweaking. Check the stickied thread at the top of this forum regarding video tweaks that worked. If you can't figure it out, pm me and I'll help.

You're going to spend twice the money it will cost to build that machine yourself by buying it through Dell.

I have that same machine and ran Vangaurd with everything maxxed @ about 90fps, on high settings it would get upo to 120fps in the wilderness.

Currently in RV getting 46 fps with a machine with 1GB RAM and a 7900GT set at "balanced".

Do some research, I believe owners of the 8800 series have had some driver issues. A better machine is not an absolute guarantee of a better performance. And before you upgrade try changing the NVIDEA default settings from "Quality" to "Performance."

Dells run like crap. Get someone to build you a decent PC.
You will get a LOT more for your money and unless you are going to cripple it, put XP back on it. You should have the license from your old PC. If you aren't going to use it, it will legally transfer.
I'd also try the tweaks someone else suggested, but I don't think you're going to get above balanced.

Well i dont know about that am running a brand new computer built by my good friends who have been doing it for 15 years as a business and my 8800GTX runs the game on highest quality every setting maxed at 1920x1200  but i do turn down to balanced when am going into the big city's and as soon as i leave i crank them back up I think alot of people having trouble with the 8800 went out bought one and stuck it into there computer and bottlenecked the heck out of the card ,like my computer was built to take advantage of all that card and i love it runs vanguard great

I bought a 2500 dollar rig around the same time of buying Vanguard.  It ran like a piece of crap lol. Sorry.  But it did.

The 8800 sucks on Vangaurd and the graphics in the game doesn't change from a 79050 to a 8800 but you may see a difference from your card..  I hope you have a smaller gcard because if not, you're gonna run into to some big problems.  I use my 7950GT on Vanguard (8800 on everything else) and it is still rather horrid. My Specs

    • Core2Duo 3 ghz
    • 1 TB 7200 16m Hard drive
    • 4 gigs of RAM (VERY FAST mhz RAM)
    • 8800GTX (7950 for Vanguard)
    • 900Watt BFG PowerSupply

It runs with rather bad frame rates at High Graphic settings (one above "Balance").  The chunking will be a little faser for you but with that 8800 Gcard...man, I dont know.  Also, If I were you, despite what some people say, don't molest your config files or tweak them.  Any major patch update can serioulsly screw your entire game up (at least, according to Sigil).

Sorry for the bad news mate

The 8800GTX runs fine in Vanguard, if you use Windows Vista... WIndows XP, will not work good with the 8800GTX.  Bottom line Vangaurd is a crappy game.   I get 60 - 100 FPS in Vanguard with the 8800GTX using windows Vista and with the Graphics settings on high quality.  The performance of Vanguard, still ruins everything.  The lag spikes are just unbearable at points and very disappointing.

I don't recommend buying anything from Hell...I mean Dell... You will spend at least 2000 bucks or close to that more for the same system parts you can buy yourself off of newegg.com.
