I play Vanguard and for what its worth here can tell you that it is a great game.  It runs smoothly if you have the recommended hardware and ram.

"It runs smoothly if you have the recommended hardware and ram AND it likes your system". There, I fixed it to bring it more in line with reality. And yes, I have the recommended specs and it does run smoothly - at highest performance. And even then, I would get intense stuttering in populated areas even when I didn't see too many other players (which was the vast majority of the time). If it runs great for you I'm honestly happy. But I see WAY too many posts from people with the rec'd specs for whom the game runs like molasses in January.

The community, at least in my server, is great .

Mixed bag. In the beginning when I was playing just after release I would get occassional responses to noobish questions. I cancelled, uninstalled, then when I saw some signs that performance was better through patches, I defragged and reinstalled (this was maybe two weeks after I quit). Performance was somewhat better, though no where near what I would expect having rec'd specs. But at that point I never got responses to anything. I also rarely saw any other players, so maybe that was it.

In my opinion, Sigil has taken the best features of past mmorpgs and incorporated them into a beautifully rendered world.   The world itself is huge.

Could not agree more (about the huge part). Huge isn't even the word. Of course, a huge empty world isn't much fun unless you like doing way more travelling than adventuring. As to Sigil having taken the best features of past mmorpgs, I have to vehenmently disagree. I really can't see anything they've done better, and I can name another mmorpg that's done things much better but I won't mention those other mmorpgs since I really don't want to hijack the thread.

I have been playing since day 1 and I still have not been everywhere there is to go.   The game has something for everyone.  If you like to adventure, the quests are very well thought out and hunting is great.  If you are a crafter like me, I can tell you that the world is a crafter's heaven.

I found it tedious and frustrating. Again, some people might like that. But I think the OP deserves to know that a LOT of people found it lacking; but I don't really need to tell him that. He can search.

And crafters make everything in the game.  Yes there are very good drops in dungeons but player made armor and weapons are just as good and sometimes even better than drops.  Its a player driven economy with specialists making everything from storage bags to houses and ships.  If you like to try something different there is diplomacy, which is unique to Vanguard and I must say another very interesting path to follow.  Everyone dabbles in diplomacy and there are a lot of rewards associated with it.
In summary, adventuring is fun with lots of mobs to hunt, great dungeons and nice drops.  Crafting is unbelievably excellent and rewarding.  Harvesting is excellent and designed in such a way as to avoid campers for resource spots a la Ultima Online.  Diplomacy is a world of its own and the rewards are fun.  You can spend days just doing that.  I am level 21 now.  I could be a lot higher but there is so much to do and not enough time so most people are not in a rush to level because there is a lot to keep you occupied besides the leveling grind.  The housing aspect is incredibly exciting, since you dont just buy a plot and put a house in it.   You buy it and then you have to find player contractors to build it for you.  Bargaining for the best deal is a lot of fun.
Take it from a satisfied subscriber.  Buy it and try it out, you wont regret it and if you want to know the real truth about Vanguard, dont look for it in these forums.  Go to the sites the players post in and find out the true positives and negatives from people who know.
    Good luck to you.
How do you know he won't regret it? And why not suggest a buddy key rather than buying it? I bought it and regret having done so, but of course I have no one but myself to blame for the lost $50.
And one last thing - there is no absolute "truth" regarding Vanguard or any game. These forums are an excellent source for both sides of the coin, assuming you ignore the obvious trolls and fanboys :)

I mean absolutely no offense, but that's a very naive view. I'm afraid  "visions" don't pay the bills.

The vision is obviously changing for Vanguard. If they need to do that to attract more subs (not to mention keeping the ones who are teetering on the edge of cancellation) then they will do it and the "hardcore" players will either deal with it or quit. If the net gain in subs is positive, then Sigil will be happy and the sadness permeating the small "hardcore" group will not matter.

Yes, Vanguard is a great game, an extremely vast world to explore, many charcters to choose from. Try it if you want, you will like it.

As soon as a new game comes out, all the youngin WoW tards feel they need say, " ZOMG....THAT GAME BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!    PLAY WoW NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  DONT LEAVE!!!!!!!!!"
It's people like you who are likely turning some people away from the game.

Or maybe you're actually a Vanguard hater, and this is some kind of diabolically clever reverse-psychology!

OP, get one of the strong vanguard supporters to purchase a copy for you. Tell them you will play for the free month and IF you love the game, you will subscribe for at least three months. Let them risk the money up front.  IF they really want to support the game, let them do it with their money.

Hi, I am also looking into this game, but I dont want to be blowing my hard earned money if I dont enjoy it and stop after a few days.  So is there anyone out there with a trial key that I may have? If you have one can you send it in a message to me here on MMORPG.com.  It would be greatly appreciated.
