Anyone hear heard about an emulator being made that will be pre CU SWG? Im so excited! When it comes out SWG is toast! I recently logged on the old SWG from my 10 day welcome back free trial too see how it changed. There is NO ONE playing. There are NO vendors, NO PVP, just NO players! I couldnt even find anything on the bazaar to buy. SWG is going down the tubes baby!
You obviously didn't look very hard...
What is there to look at, barren wastelands?
I guess you dont need to look very hard to find nothing.
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.
When it comes to gameing there is a different definition of dead then you would find in a hospital. Dead refers to no longer being on the radar. Games really do not die they just fade into obscurity. For instance you could say the Super Nintendo is dead, but I am sure there are probabally twenty thousand die hard enthusiasts out there in the world. Most liveing in the third world granted. You can probabally find old games to buy, and even the hardware. Now is SWG dead yes it is with a player population of less then ten thousand that is dead when it comes to a pay to play MMORPG. That accounts for less then one percent of the MMORPG market. Couple this with the fact that this product is only shedding customers never gaining any.
Star Wars Galaxies is dead in reguard to market share. Dead in reguards to new player interest. Dead in reguards to actual development. This is an abandoned project after all. Lacking the resources necassary to make needed improvements. The game is dated in most categories, and suffers from bad press, gameplay, and public perception. The game is no longer alive it is undead. Not immortal mind you the thing is still rotting, and letting off a awful stench. Eventually it will completely fall apart. The thing moves on in spite of logic. Some executive out there keeps propping the body up in the corner thats all there is to it really. This game aint done yet he says it still has some woof left in it. Really it is a desocration like digging up grandma to chase the kids around town with on Halloween.
Will people be playing SWG in two years. Absolutely they will. They will just be playing it on the emulator. The game will have been replaced by then with the next gen Star Wars game. Will it be a dead game even with a few thousand dedicated hobbyists yeah it will. Simply haveing something linger on for years on end dosen't make it alive in the game community.
Still today I can't find a Game that brings That feeling that SWG had, None.
isnt that weird. i feel the same way. i guess it's cuz we're such fans of sw the pull of the game was immense and now the loss is just as big. i've played some cool mmo's since i left but truly none come close to the times i had in swg. nostalgia sucks.

I agree totally EXCEPT...I was never a huge SW fan. I'm really a Trekkie. But I absolutely loved SWG and have yet to find a suitable replacement. It wasn't the Star Wars(iness) that made it great. It was a whole lot of other stuf. The SW stuf contributed, but that isn't really why most of us want it back. Is it dead? The dream of what SWG gave us pre-CU CAN'T be dead, because so many people loved it so much. In spite of its bugs and flaws, its lack of balance and a continual appliction of the nerf bat to attempt to swat down the prof of the month, it had SO many other elements to it that no game has emulated (sic) that made it stand out as an achievement. You can give me all the business reasons you'd like, and all the tech reasons you'd like, but I'll still never understand WHY the game was destroyed.
But, yeah, it's dead now.

Obraik has already posted once that his idea of a lot of people is much less than most other folks idea of a lot of people. To see how loaded the servers are, take a look in the current folder for any post that has someone claiming to be thinking about joining the game. It is like a shark frenzy with the couple folks who still play begging the poster to join their server. I find it a bit humorous that people ,who supposedly have more than enough other people to play the game with, beg like children for someone new to join their server.
SWG has come a long way from offering free transfers from Bria because the server was crashing due to having too many people playing on it. Fortunately, SOE will never have to worry about that ever again.
Obee brings up an interesting point. Not so much is SWG dead, as I think that it is, barring successful emulation (and I know there are a couple, UO and Ragnarok spring to mind), but what has it done to SOE's reputation in terms of future releases? I know I won't go near anything SOE ever again, so when Vanguard moved to SOE I crossed that one off my list. From what I've read, though, looks like it was gonna get crossed off anyway. lol And, yeah, I know, STO keeps pushing hard that they're only thinking of SOE for "distribution", but you put that logo up and I'm outa here, no matter how badly I want the game.
Did SWG permanently damage SOE as a MMO company? Is the Kiss of Death on anything SOE ever produces? Probably not. Human beings have short memories and can be very forgiving (OK, but not in THIS forum), but they'll certainly have to consider that there will be a substantial number of folks in the future who WON'T forgive and forget, so in reality, we actually HAVE affected their bottom line a little. And I guess that's about the best we can ever hope for.

yep. it had cool ADULT players for the most part and was kinda like a giant chat room sometimes with battles thrown in to keep you excited. the whole atmosphere was just better than what i've come across since. and even with all the talk about lack of content i always had something fun to do. even when i was just standing around i was never bored with swg. that's the big diff between the pre cu swg and the titles today. they leave me bored too fast. sadly in the end swg has just left me wanting.
I agree, I played swg for 4 years including beta till the nge emptied the servers of all the true vet players. It really bothered me when nge hit. I loved the feel and the atsmosphere prenge had or even precu. It was really different and unique. Sure it had its flaws at first like the holo grind and melee defence stackers but the community was awesome. I havnt played a mmorpg yet that had a better community (ive played a lot of them). It really did feel like a virtual chat room and pvp was awesome (Bestine/AH or Theed/Moe raids anyone?)
Maybe because this was my first mmorpg but I have many great memories of classic swg and made great friends its sad to see all that potential this game had wasted. I wasnt a SW fan till I played this game. I dont hate soe now just really really really disapointed at them for turning there back to the community. Owell I guess I just need to hope swgemu turns alright.
