It's $50 to buy the game $10.00 is one of the monthly subscription prices. You can also choose a one time $200 for the life of the game. i hope this helps.
Well, not really. Where are you looking to buy it from? Go to your local games shop and pick up the preorder box there.

Ok so basicly if I want to just try the game first and if I want the 10 dollars a month I cannot pre order online? I need to go to gamestop or bestbuy and etc?
I stand corrected. It does look like you need to pay full price when you preorder in some places, although in the UK they are giving preorder packs out for a few pounds and telling you that you need to buy the full game once its released (in the stores).
Also, it seems online places like Play.com and Amazon are sending you the preoder key when you place your order, but not charging you for the game until the release date.

Frrst of all I expected to pay the full price eventually, but im not going to waste 50 dollars on something I have not played yet, I just wanted to know if there is a way to pre order then you buy later if you want to keep playing? I guess I will look into the stores. And do you have to preorder online to pay 10 a month or can you do that by buying pre order locally and buying retail later?

This information is for US only. EU may be different. If you pre-order online, you have to pay the full price. If you pre-order through a brick and mortar (a store) such as Gamestop you can put down $5 (US) and then pay the difference when your copy gets to the store. Either way you pre-order, you get access to the game on March 30, 2007 and get to keep the characters you make (with a level cap of 15) when the official launch date happens on April 24, 2007.
If you do not want to put any money down, then you can wait until April 6, 2007 and download the open beta client. Note you will NOT get to keep your characters by doing only this. If you decide, between April 6, 2007 and April 23, 2007, to go and put money down on a pre-order, pick up the pre-order disk with the Founder Club code and enter that code in your Turbine account, then you will get to keep the characters/gear into release.
The only way to get the Founders Club pricing options ($9.99/month or $199 lifetime) is to pre-order by putting money down. It does not matter if you do that online or in a store. Basically, if you do not commit $5 (and then register your FC code) before April 23, 2007 you do not get to keep your characters and you do not get the FC pricing. Pre-order with $5, then pay the other $48 on April 24, 2007 when you pick the game up in the store. If you decide not to get it, transfer the $5 you put down to something else.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Ok so go to gamestop get the preorder of the collectors eddition or whatever its called and I can pay 10 a month after I come back and pay the rest at release?
That is correct except for the Collector's Edition part. The Collector's Edition is not required for Open Beta or Founders offer. It does have its own goodies but they are just extra. Keep in mind this is for the US version.
And I believe best buy has a $10 pre-order box. But you will still have to pay the remainder for the release box I do believe.
This is correct. You can get a pre-order box DVD at Best Buy and i think Frys for $10. ( i got mine at best buy ). This sets you up for open beta and founder pricing. Once the game goes live you will have to go back down to the brick and mortar store you purchased from and buy the game ( minus the $10 ).
This method has a couple advantages over the online pre-orders.
1. Its $10
2. If you pick up the pre-order DVD you will have the HI Resolution textures, which make the game look fantastic. If you online preorder you will not get these textures until you recieve your physical copy of the game ( after release ).
Angelbound....you really aren't getting it....You have obviously never played any other mmorpg's so people are assuming you understand how these games sell and subscribe.
there is no trial you can buy, 10$ a month is the subscription fee to play
crappy games, games that are old, games that are failing give away 7/10/14 day trials
They will not need to give out free trials of LoTR, the game will sell.
You may be able to buy a 10$ preorder from a store, which just gets you in the beta march 30, maybe a dvd of the game client so you dont' have to download it, and maybe some artwork type stuff, ect - basically junk
After the game comes you you take your recept for 10$ back to where ever you bought the game and then you only pay lets say 40$ for the full game, then another 10 for a months subscription (you pay the subscription online directly to the makers of the game)
however there will be a thing called open beta, so what you do is find the client somewhere, download it now, patch it
then on march 30 there is supposed to be an open beta - you can make an account and try the game - for free!!!!
So unless you feel the need to pay 10$ for no reason you don't need to preorder.
Actually it is not my first mmorpg, I just never pre ordered a mmorpg before. And I know im not paying 10 dollars for beta but if I like the game I want the preorder so I only have to pay 10 a month which is a good deal to me. Now I also know that the pre orders get to play closed beta and I dont have anything else I want to play right now im tired of cox and need something new.
If you preorder from the right place on-line you don't get charged until the game ships (assuming you order a real box, shipping to your home and not an electronic download), you still get the preorder open beta code. If you don't like it cancel your order before the game ships and, like I said, you won't get charged.

Actually, there was a code to get into the closed beta for a $5 magazine cost... basically a trial you could buy (and after the stress test weekend I did). The game has been rock stable for me so it's been a pretty nice preview. But tonight was the last night for closed beta.
Open beta starts April 6th, not March 30th, unless you preorder. Only preorders will be allowed to play March 30th - April 6th and they are also the folks who get to keep their characters when the game goes live for everyone (capped at level 15 but not capped for destiny points or traits you can have by 15). So that is a reason to preorder.
Not sure if the $10/month founders deal is limited to preorders, since I did preorder and it will apply to me I haven't bothered to check it out for anyone who doesn't preorder.
Go to www.lotro.com and they have links for preorders, I did mine with ebgames since I've never had any problems with them in the past. They should send you an open beta/founders code via email, if you don't get it a day or two after ordering email them asking for it.
First: I'm from Europe, now u all got that clear. I'm going to buy this game and I'm gonna preorder it pretty soon, the problem is I don't know if I should choose online preorder pack or the usual box.
The difference in price is pretty big, but I don't see why the usual box should cost so much more than the preordered one Is it because of the 30 days free playtime that the price differ so much, or is it because they have to send it home? Would be nice with a clarification here.
I didn't read any of the replies, but the answer is simple if it hasn't been given:
$5-10 is for walk-in pre-orders and you pay the rest when it is released, if you order online you are basically paying for the game right. Basically the same thing, if you are pre-ordering it is understood you will be buying, if your intentions are otherwise just get into open beta April 6th and leave when it's released.

I believe March 30th is for people who pre-ordered. Open beta starts the beginning of April.... I think the 6th?

Right, the closed beta is pretty much wrapping up as we speak... think there is some event planned for tomorrow, end of the world kinda thing.
