Ok guys well, basically.. I apologize I didn't really explain my game in full detail but the concept goes as such.. WARNING: Long POST.

These are very flimsy and subject to change.

    Combat System:

DragonRealms: But graphical  /  Combat movement: Refer to Roma Victor (WASD)

Setting: Lets just say bows not guns. "HARDCORE ROLEPLAYING"

    Races:

    Human

    Dwarf

    Elf

    Halfling

    Goblin

    Orc

    World:

Refer to AC as far as size.

    Graphics:

    Refer to GW

    Damage system:

Refer to DR, bleeding (doesn't pulse, instead just slowly depletes depending on how many bleeders or how bad and the amount of stamina one possesses) ... unusable limbs.. cant use items.. no leg = stuck in prone.. no hand = no holding anything

    Death: PERMADEATH

        - When you lose all your health points you will go unconscious with full health in the case of bleeding, should you bleed out all your hp(after the refill) you die. (gives time for drags.. or heals.) *BUT* There are instances where you can be knocked unconscious by blows to the head (blunt only), or some spells. You will be unconscious until your actual health bar replenishs or you awake through a spell.

-Unconscious -50% to your health regen.

            -NAtural Def = 0

    No preset classes:

Everything will be skill and title based.

Titles: Titles will be allowed for those who earn them through use of skills

Towns: There will be 1 town for each race.

These towns will consist of a tutorial area for learning the basics and then a section to where you choose rather to be a fighter or mage, but ultimately no outward appearence change.

Towns will consist of a trainer, shop, and guards (All npc's will be admins.. I want this to be a fully interactive game.. nothing preset, no patterns..)

    Player abilities:

Everything built after the 1st town for each race will be built by the players including homes, shops, castles, forts, prisons, boats AND horse drawn wagons and ANY BUILDING. but also players with have the ability to politic.

Can knock out, drag, imprison, kill, reproduce, pray to the gods for help or just to keep favor with the gods, sail, map out the world, learn to play musical intruments, build kingdoms, assassinate kings or neighbors, become a murderous villain or a town saving hero, be king of an area,

Mounts: Horses will be the main mount. there will be TONS of horses to tame.. ranging in difficulty naturally the harder to tame horses will be the best ones.

Unique items: There will literally only be one of these items.

-No two items are EXACTLY the same seeing as all armor or clothes will need to be made.

Just alil somethin.. im not done with the whole brain storming thing..

Hows this for an idea, your body dies, but your spirit lives on, reincarnating in a new body. This body has blank stats, none of the equipment or knowledge the previous one had, but you retain soul stats, or things bound to your soul.
That is an interesting idea, basically you're saying upon death you lose all your gear but not your level.

you see perm death is a issue because its going to be silly when everyone keeps coming back to life, the only way it can work is the game is based on something like the matrix or ghost game where everyone is somehow detached from their player, so loosing your skills when dying the the game could make sense.......

You fail to mention that you could run your own private instance world in D2 that no one else could enter. You also could select the level of difficulty for mobs you could face. Most people played in normal and nightmare mode. There were very few people who ever dared to play in hell mode exclusively. Also PVP in perma death mode was mainly done by people who were bored with their twinked out alt characters.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

PVP should be consentual, as in guilds declaring war on other guilds and then they fight and loot each other. Heres the catch, you can be PKed, however, if you non-consensually kill someone 1 time you go red. You can clean your slate and go blue again by doing like comunity service. The 2nd time you pk you are perma red but still no permadeath yet but you of course can be attacked at will by anyone, anytime, you can kill in defense. The third thime you kill thats it now your up for permadeath.
I think thats a pretty reasonable setup, so that theres still the thrill of not knowing if a blue will open up on you in order to get your super gear or just because.

Permadeath will never ever be part of any MAJOR mmorpg. sure some lesser mmoprg might have it but i think people will get bored with it real fast. First time there power goes out. Or internet stops or a parent comes in and turns off the computer to get them to take out the trash and all there work down the drain.

    Conservatism.

If you can fix connectivity issues so I cannot die from disconnecting accidently while preventing abuse of the system I might consider it.  Otherwise leave it for games like Diablo or games where you can save.

Would never do it. I don't want to play a game to have some elite kiddy kill me while my internet d/c me.

Permadeath could be great if it was done correctly.  A permadeath game would look completely different from current games.

Some factors that can offset the negatives of permadeath are:

Fast gain of power lost by permadeath:  By this I mean the character levels fast or can quickly aquire useful/powerful items after restarting (and items are a large part of power in the game).

Less influence of things lost when dying:  By this I mean you manage to keep some things even though your character died.  There are several ways to do something like this.  Maybe you have a family stash of equipment somewhere (and again the game is item based rather than mostly level based).  Maybe you belong to a guild, and that guild has aquired access to mines/factories etc partly from your previous efforts and these factories etc allow you to reequip your character making him more powerful than he would have been otherwise.

A few examples of these concepts:  You may not realize it, but FPS games are an example of these ideas.  You die and all you lose are the weapons and ammo you had amassed.  To get them back all you have to do is respawn and run over them again.

A game I think of when I think of a permadeath MMORPG is Fallout 1/2.  In these game items are very important, but levels are not insignifigant.  Leveling is also pretty fast.

Most people who express great disdain at the idea of permadeath are associating it with traditional mmorpg models.  They automatically assume they are going to need 500 hours to cap their character (get him as strong as possible) and until that point any high level could just come and gank them in one button press and it all goes down the drain.  Of course that is rediculous.  Permadeath games would have fast development, less difference in power from levels etc.

First of all lootable bodies is a must second of all why not add some type of save system when you are in towns or lobbies. Put simply maybe you pray at a statue to hold some of your soul so when you die you can rez there exactly as you where when you last saved. And lootable bodies is just to cool imo it would give players a reason to pk more then rep or honor and that is always good.

if you really want your mmo to hit it off i would sugest that you cater to both.  Have perma death and non perma death but you would need to give the perma death players some kind of reward for rolling a perma death char. Maybe you could make permadeath char LVL faster, or give them some really cool abilities, or somthing idk it just depends on how it will fit into your game.
