Vanguard is the best of the bunch

in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

I have player most mmorpg's and I can say that Vanguard is the best out there at the moment.  Better than WOW?  U bet. Most people complain about the grind.  All mmorpg's have grind.

 

Anyway.. I love it.. so will you..

    Well if you read the Vanguard forums I think there are some folks that may disagree with you. I am not saying it can't be one of the best out there, but seems to me they have a few kinks to iron out before tehy get the title of "Best of the Bunch".

    While I respect your opinion, I disagree.  I gave it nearly 2 months and that was more than enough time for me to decide that it was just not finished enough to be the best.  Still, if you love it, good for you!

    Try comparring VG to an MMO rather than a casual online game like WoW.

    And no, its not the best. It has potential, and it always has. If they find that potential and unlock it, it could be cool. Till then, nope, not the best, not by a long shot.

    This opinionated obviously.  Vanguard hasn't been out long enough for a comparison of WoW.  Once again, it is apparent that many are for some twisted reason, jealous of Blizzard. LOL, they don't even work for a game developer and they bang on WoW.  Well there are only a very, very microscopic few that "hate" on WoW, so it really doesn't amount to a bucket of spit.

    While WOW was not my cup of tea, I think it is a great game. The only thing wrong with WOW, for me, is that it is too casual. This does not mean it isn't a great game, it just means that it's not what I am looking for.



    Comparing Vanguard and WOW is just not a viable thing to do. One of the things that makes a MMORPG is the community. Vanguard has not been out long enough for the community to take hold yet. People are still trying to figure out what class (or classes) to play. Guilds are still trying to figure out their identities. Most people have not "discovered" their niche in Vanguard yet.



    However, I will say that of the early releases that I have played, Vanguard has a lot of catching up to do. Sure, Vanguard has tremendous potential . . . but so does a newborn baby. My point is, with maturity, a newborn baby can later become the President of the United States. By the same token, a newborn baby can also mature to be a crackhead.



    Way too early to tell what Vanguard will mature to be. But frankly, I am leaning toward crackhead.

    I have to agree. VG is the best of the bunch nature simulation. Very realistic trees, rivers, mountains and hills. As long as you avoid the rest of the game, (ie. combat, crafting, diplomacy, animations, stuttering dead cities, buggy chunking, barbie doll models etc.) you can even have a good, restful evening with the scenery.  

    CONTRIBUTE INTO THE GAMING INDUSTRY! STOP PAYING FOR BORING COPYCATS, UNFINISHED BUGFESTS AND CRANKY JUNKWARE. BE A RESPONSIBLE GAMER!

    Having 2mil users makes it the best?  Hell, a MMO could have 2,000 users and it could be the best.  Numbers dont mean shit.  What WoW is doing is making a MMO easy enough for anyone and their mother to attain level 70 and the cartoon looks grab the mainstream population like a saturday morning chubby.  Throw some skills in and every couple levels you update them to fight shit with more HP.  People buy it.  Spend enough time on that game and anyone can be "good". 



    But I'll be fair -- Vanguard is just "decent" like WoW.

    Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

    You can't put WoW in that sort of direction..Even though its loved by many players (not me btw :S). You can denie that blizzard diden't do a  almost perfect job making WoW.. I mean they make games for the money, not because we miss things. What do you think Blizzard can make if they diden't do it for money ;).

    Give it six months - 1 year max and Vanguard will be completely dead. It has failed miserably. A poor launch, the majority of people quitting,  and mediocre reviews is a death sentence. It was a shame, but  a lesson to be learned for the genre.

    Vanguard is nothing new. It doesn't really bring anything new to the genre. We all know the condition the game is in, even when they clean up the game, get it more "finished" etc, it is still the same old thing.

    I suppose if that is your thing ( more of the same ), when vanguard stabilizes then VG could be your game.

    I doubt it will be completely dead because it's hooked up to the station pass crappy game life support system. I'd be willing to be that within a year, however, that SOE will own it completely.



    Hopefully by then Sigil/Braid will have learned a few hard lessons.

    I'm playing Vanguard and having a great time.

    I dunno if it's the best of the bunch....it is for me.

    To me...Vanguard sucks less than the rest !

    Ibought the game, Vanguard.SOH, roughly 3 weeks ago, installed it, played for about 3 days, had some unfortunate things happen in game,such as what I have posted before...check those if need be...then I uninstalled it...

     

    Last night, I re-installed it, after 1 week of d/l'ing all  the other games out there that I possibly could, ( there sure is alot of false advertising going around,to say the least about some of them ), and didn't like most...

     

    So at anyrate, I decided to try the game again, besides that 80 dollars I spent for that lovely large brown box, didn't like being attuned with Pandora.  So I will try this out one more time, as of now, a few things have gotten better...I will suck it up and pay to play and pay to report bugs in what I paid for without them.  This is how it goes. "No more free rides", to qoute Chris Cornell.

     

    I will repost in 1 week to give a short re-review.

    Oh yeah, its definitely best because u say so. All we really needed in our lives  is an online messiah to tell us what to love or hate.



    *sigh* kids got too much free time these days. Go join boy scouts, a soccer club or wrestle a mountain lion - anything will make time better spent  then trolling or flaming.

    I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

    I did not. 



    I was immensely disappointed with Vanguard and after trying really hard to give this game every benefit of the doubt, I have finally canceled my subscription.  I sprang for the Collectors Edition just *KNOWING* that this was going to be my new MMO home but after a few months of play I actually found Minesweeper and online crossword puzzles to be more satisfying and engaging than a session with Vanguard.



    I completely agree that the "vision" for Vanguard is a good one but it has been oversold to the point that it would make PT Barnum blush.  Vision without execution is worthless.  The game turned out to be far too buggy, derivative, bland, sterile and incomplete for me to get any real enjoyment out of playing it. 



    Oh well. Fool me once, shame on ... shame on me.  Fool me... you can't get fooled again.
