Saying that Blizzard released their mmo with no thoughts of adding an expansion later, it's simply narrow minded. I can assure you that every major mmo had an x-pack if not in developement, at least on the drawing board, before game's initial release. If you look at it, every major patch during the last 2 years was a tiny, mini, small expansion, that added some more 'content' (aka. the 40 man raids dungeons), and Blizzard sure didn't came up with those 2 months before they were implemented. They 'cook' something as we speak for next patches/expansions. What? I don't care, last 3 months i've played only to be with my rl friends.
(open in multiple browser windows for maximum effect)
I suspect alot of the dungeons released early on were stuff they had originally planned would be in the main game, but had been cut out due to deadline issues etc. That sort of thing is very common in software projects.
If Blizzard had been certain how successful WoW would have been, had planned accordingly and started a new team to work on the expansion whilst the main game was still in Beta testing, then TBC would have arrived a good deal sooner.
Of course, who can blame them for not knowing in advance how big a cash cow WoW would be? The success of WoW was largely unprecedented amongst western game players.
People hate it because its World of Warcraft. Its just simple as that. Blizzard added more content to the game, the same thing Everquest expansions did, the same thing UO expansions did, but oh no, Its WoW, so when Blizzard doesn't re-invent the wheel in an expansions, its suddenly the "Worst expansion ever", despite the fact that the Burning Crusade contains more content then any Everquest expansion, UO expansion or FFXI expansion ever did, but no, Its WoW, its popular, so we must hate it.
Its the same thing with the raiding endgame, Everquest had engame raiding, EQ2 has Endgame raiding, FFXI has endgame raiding, DAOC has endgame raiding, Lineage 2 has endgame raiding, but for some reason, we don't see 5 thousands topics about that. weird eh?
And for the ones that say "They worked 2 years on that expansion!" for the love of god, please educate yourself. do some research.
DAoC's endgame was better than WoW's will ever be, in wow all you do is go to dungeons and bash the same npc over and over for your gear. In DAoC however the endgame was RvR which included castle sieges with hundreds of players. This addressed to Gameloading,
You sound a bit stressed?
It's only a cartoon. It won't harm you, I assure you. If you do not prefer the game then just walk away from it. Bashing it doesn't mean anything to anyone actually.
Apparently, there are enough people buying the game and subscribing to the server play that Blizzard seems to be making a good living. Enjoy the game(s) you play and allow those of us that play a game you don't like to do so, please.
What in heavens name are you talking about? When ever did you see me go into a section of a game I don't enjoy and start to trash it? I only go to the sections of games I enjoy most of the time. your acting like I rip apart other games just for the heck of it.
they had TBC on drawing table, but then they saw how successful WoW was, and they dragged onto it ... marketing strategy ... can't blame them really
remember the exploration movies of noggaholic and his bunch? way before any expansion was announced? mount hyjal is the only that comes up to mind now
but on topic, i can't hardly wait for any replacement of WoW (LotRO is first, playing it until AoC and WAR are released), until then, back to my Belfadin !

whoever said eq2's expansions all together are the same as TBC is wrong, TBC didnt add very much imo.. one more tier and 2 raid dungeons not that much... and new races doesnt really add a whole lot to a game.
I have no clue what you are saying either all three of EQ2s expansion added nothing new either. They finnally just added talents! EQ2 added new raid content and new teir gear and the area of exploration combined still doesnt equal up to WoW + TBC.
Again i stated you all keep saying TBC added nothing new. WHat new things did you wanted added? NEw classes would ruin WoW, blizz added flying mounts, caverns of time is a awesome new addition to go back in time and fight through WC RTS past events. When the next patch comes out it will add the black temple the first non linear end game dungeon to WoW. 10 new levels, new profession which owns.
Lots of new raid instances, yes. But that's nothing new, they just replace other ones, and will be less loved cause of worse drop rates. And flying mounts are too restricted to be counted as a "full" WoW feature.
erm.... I really don't believe they've added that much, especially with the amount of time they spent developing the expansion.....
I just also wanted to ask, what's this "Fantastic Storyline" people carry on about, the questing I have seen are all just a bunch of small tasks with a couple of paragraphs attached to them to give a little bit to the story to make thing interesting (yes I did read the quests fully) some of it was interesting but the storyline wasn't awe inspiring like some games I've played which have absolutely superb storylines. Not to mention, I looked at the WoW wiki website, there was very little information on side characters and factions save for again a paragraph basically giving a bit of a summary to their story in the game, it doesn't really give the 'expanded universe' feel to it people have been bragging about this game, but I really don't see the big deal. 8 million subscribers? wow big woopydidoo, I played warcraft for awhile (the RTS) and I found it rather linear also, it is only about the main storyline, there is no vaults of lore that I can see hidden away there and if there is it probably belongs to the devs and they won't release it until the next expansion or whatever....
I no longer feel the same way about WoW as I did when I first started playing and when I got TBC and started trying to level up, I just thought that there was no point, it was literally the same thing, even the landscape seemed disturbingly familiar, they used different textures and such of course, but maybe it was because I'd gotten so used to the game, sorry, but I just don't see it.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

BLizzard stated the older instances from WC - ramas will have a heroic mode in a future patch scaling with level 70 gear Flying mounts were only restricted because azeroth has alot of zones that are not supposed to be reach that can easily be reached by flying mounts.

Blizzard has not stated anything about the instances. These topics has new posts every day in general chat and suggestions on the EU forum, and and if what you are saying is true, why does NO ONE know any facts about it?
Flying mounts are NOT unavailable in Azeroth only to keep us away from certain places. It's because Azeroth isn't built for it. An example: the cathedral in SW is fixed to make some viewing illusions. There are 2 actual cathedral roofs which does this, and they are far from each other. Some parts of Azeroth (like this one) would look like a mass of graphic errors if they were seen from above, and fixing that will require a COMPLETE REMAKE of Azeroth. Ask a GM in-game if you don't believe this, that's how I got this confirmed after reading about it somewhere.

What else had to be added to this one expansion?
As I have already said I was dissapointed with the BC in WoW. While it is true that when compared against most other MMO Xpacs, BC rates about average, in that it adds nothing new to a game. However, just because someone else (EQ2 or whom ever) does something doesn't mean that it is a good idea. So please let's avoid this "but EQ2 did the same thing" nonsense. Additionally while the BC is a large Xpac in that it added a considerable amount of playable area to the game, the sheer amount of time it took for Blizz to launch its first Xpac was staggering. Since you seem to be on an EQ2 kick, lets compare and realize that EQ2 put out three Xpacs in the time that WoW put out one and EQ2 also put out numerous digital downloaded adventure packs. (mini-xpacs if you will) Given the amount of time Blizz took I expected more than just a larger version of regular patch (even if that is what the competetion is doing).
More importantly, I consider an Xpac worthwhile (regardless of game) when it adds new depth and dimension to the game. I will give you a prime example of this. SWG: JTL. Jump to Lightspeed was a solid Xpac for SWG. It added a completely new component to the game. It didn't just add a new planet with new dunegones and quests. It added something completely innovative to the game, which greatly improved the overall enjoyability. BC did not have the same effect in WoW. If you didn't like WoW or felt WoW was lacking something prior to BC you still are going to have that feeling post BC.
Blizz didn't want to risk disturbing the status quo and thus added nothing of consequence to the game. That's fine, it is their decesion to make, but in my opinion in order to evolve you must take some risks and try some new things. You can't just stagnate and deliver more of the same, which is what Blizz did. If you really think about it Blizz has hardly changed the game at all since launch. Yes there are new raids and new areas to explore, but aside from the tweaking of professions here and there the game hasn't evolved. That is fine for console games and normal PC games. I expect more from an MMO that I pay to play. I expect a living, breathing, evolving game that will keep me occupied for months if not years to come.
1-70 is very fun, even when it ends and you hit raids raids are ALOT of fun with a great guild. I love WC because i love seeing old heroes from WCI-III and fighting them. I cant wait for the black temple a non-linear dungeon. Also caverns of times has ALOT of potential. For blizzards first xpac i think they did a hell of a job the two new races was worth it alone look how big ghostlands and exodar is alone in size. Has any mmorpg ever released a xpac so huge?
Im sure blizzards next Xpac will be even better because thats the time warhammer will come out and blizz will go all out on this xpac.
To the people not liking new classes for the xpac i mean do we really need new classes in WoW? They would all be so overplayed that all the other classes would be dead. Look what the new races did atleast. What would be nice is if they added new talent lines.
WoWs PVP really isnt mindless its like every other mmo grudge vs grudge all the same. I still find WoW to be a awesome game ever since i started playing dec 2004.
Just an FYI: Black Temple: Everything after the first two bosses.... undoable at the moment. Bugged beyond belief.
Xpac so huge? Look at Anarchy Online for just one. I'm sure there's more out there. How long you been playing online games?

Loved Wow, when they realise that i was a fanatic player, till 1 year ago, when Blizzard showd the true face. There is no point to ask to fix bugs, they dont fix that. All new patchs updating game with new bugs. Some of things like skills, talents, spells, already askd for it 2 years ago. There ar bugs from begining that still arnt fixed. The Boring Crusade is another copy of old WOW, they only editd few more maps and changed monsters colors and dimensions. Playd on rp and rp-pvp servers more then 1 and half year, the only storyline is grinding. Alot of quests with nonsense. The xp that you get after finishng those quests is not even 30% from what you get if u farming. Wow is made to keep busy the player as much as posible doing nothng, so grow up with lvls in a longer time. What make Wow unik ? is the most comercial game for kids (alot of money-xp sellers activity, that no other game have and lots of peopls presume that Blizz suport those ), is the full version of p2p game ( and is pay to play not pay to party...).

I been playing Mmos since 2000 im both hardcore Pker/ raider and casual. Now that i have alot of time on my hands WoW is great for me. I did play UO and EQ alot before WoW

I've been around since MUD's, or at least that's as far back as I recall.
TBC for the new(er) player that didn't have Naxx on a farm status, is probably great.
The thing the majority of the top guilds are displeased with is the deliberate "encounter" difficulty levels based on the fact that the next "step" isn't ready yet, or is full of bugs. Not to mention, once again, Itemization steers classes to a certain build, type, or spec. Perfect example is the fact that, Holy Pali's > Holy Priest. Shadow Priest's are now the hot thing. A Holy pali is superior to a Priest on Mana consumption, Where a Shadow Priest is valued for helping the regen, and added dmg. Also going from a 40man format, to a 25man format. Many, Many a top guild suffered from this. You've had 40 to 60 dedicated raiders that formed your "A" team. Suddenly you've got to divide your "A" team, and place some of them in a "B" Status. If you keep them at all.
Currently my guild is ready to run, and get SSC on a cleared status, which can't be done because it's buggy as hell.
Fortunately for us... we were able to survive the format change. We have 3 groups clearing Karazhan. Our "hope" is to have two 25man groups that are on the same page, progression wise.
The Nitebane and Gruul nerf came into place because,
A.) Gruul had a lot of bugs, so the Nightbane fight was deliberately "almost" impossible. Preventing you from trying Gruul (whom is next in the progression chain)
B.) Gruul was nerfed because they got the "majority" of bugs out of the first couple of bosses in SSC.
The concensus at this point (goes for a lot of MMO's throughout history) is that they make certain stages impossible, or near it, because the next step in progression is NOT ready for the masses. Ergo my previous statement, and opinion about TBC.
They have, in fact, been working on it for two years. However, models, graphics, and eye candy remain the same because they just didn't have, or care to put in the time. I believe TBC was premature. If you take out the top end guilds over the Planet, Naxx was barely scratched on a mass basis. TBC was mainly thrown out there for the "casual" gamers. If you started late, or weren't ever a part of those "uber l33t guilds", TBC gave you the opportunity to become equivelant via questing, and 5 mans.
I could go on.... RL things to do tho. Best of luck to those playing WoW. Enjoy.
well it sort seems to me that I heard this before there will always at some point be a next great game that some one loves and some one hates, i sort of some to the point that there is no good mmorpg, it all waste of time and money, but thats just my point, I come here at mmorpg to read the comic, cheers guys cya in 2-3 years then the next great game comes
How may i ask would new classes ruin WoW? If anything i quit because i was bored of all the current classes, and had no drive to level any of them to level 70. New classes would bring new strategy to World of Warcraft. I definitely would have played TBC if it had new classes. I'm guessing you have never played Everquest 2, because it is way more in depth than World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft does very little to actually get a person immersed in the content. Most people just care about doing well in pvp, or making their gear better. I'm not saying these things aren't present in everquest 2, I'm just saying it offers a lot more in the immersion factor as an MMORPG. The crafting system is way better in my opinion, but back to WoW. Please explain your logic as to why new classes would ruin world of warcraft. I know new classes might be imbalanced at the beginning, but Blizzard did a pretty good job making all classes able to solo, and all classes being able to hold their own in pvp, so I'm guessing they could make new classes fit into the picture nicely. Also Naxxramas was not a linear instance, you could tackle each wing in any order that you wanted to, so Black Temple will not be the first linear instance in WoW. As to jewelcrafting, its not that revolutionary. Socketed items just made it so you could enchant your items with more stats. Wouldn't it be the same if they allowed for more than one enchant to be placed on a single item? I just don't see why TBC is the god of expansions like you say it is. May i also say that Black temple wasn't even implemented with TBC, it was added through patches. They couldve put Black temple in with the original WOW pre TBC and just made it for he lvl 60 tier.

I stand corrected, Serpent Shrine Cavern is what I was referring to. We've had numerous convo's via GM tickets in regards to this instance.
Including the ability to skip all of it and fish up the last boss.
"The Black Temple" is part of the expansion. Shouldn't it be released? Don't you think?

Enjoy.
