RAM?

since my pathetic computer maxes out at 2 gigs of ram...would it be enought to play this i wonder? and the 512mb vid card is no problem...i might try to get one of those 700+mb vid cards...but the system can only hold onto 2 gigs of ram...so will it be enough?

You may not be able to play at the highest settings but you can play it for sure.

Do you own the Elder Scrolls:Oblivion game?

2gb of ram? Thats probably enough.

It seems games nowdays are getting to be  "Minimum requirements- 1gb of ram" as opposed to the old 512mb. So 2gb is probably perfectly if not better than your average. As for the 512 card? Even better. You probably won't need to get your hands on one of those 700mb 8800 cards from Nvidia.

This is an MMO so expect requirements to be lower than say.. Crysis.

not like i dont have 6 months if i wanted to get a new computer...seems kinda expensie..but whatever for a game like this? its worth it..right now i got an emachines w3506...it will have vista on it, as it came with the offer for a free upgrade...maybe the higher end graphics cards will be cheaper by then so maybe...maybe

Even if it is just a slight drop in price, I would imagine with the way they come out with new stuff for personel computers all the time, it is safe to say if you wait a couple months you will find better deals for upgrading your computer. I will be doing the same.

i did see people on ebay auctioning off 2gig ram packs for $93 ive been emailing them for awhile about the ram, what make is it and whatnot..only reason they say the price is so low is cause theyre wholesaling it..quite a large feedback as well

My personal experiences of buying on ebay say to be vey, very careful at the least.  $93 for 2 gigs of RAM doesn't say much, except that there may be something wrong.   For all you know, that 2 gigs could be made up of 8 sticks of 256mb.  Make sure you get all the info on the product is my advice.  That said, you can find good deals at places like newegg for RAM.  Most of their products come with tech support, return policies, and other things that you most likely won't get from ebay.

ok new question the graphics card i wanted to get was a:

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1650 PRO, PCI-Express 16X, 512mb Video Card, which uses DDR2 memory...and then theres a 250mb vid card with DDR3 memory..which would be better?

if you need dual channel BE AWARE you need a matched pair of 2 1G sticks

DDR 3 memory is newer than DDR 2

does dual channeling shorten the lifespan of the ram? and in the "company's" auction is did state it was dual channel able, and that it was 2x 1gig sticks of ram

but 512mb DDR2 vid card would still be stronger than a 250mb DDR3...right?

While the x1650 PRO isn't a bad card, this game has some superior graphics already, and by the time AoC comes out, i think you'll want something better.  There is a pricing war going on between ATI and NVidia, and you can expect hardware prices to be much, much cheaper in a few months.  Not to mention, all computer hardware gets cheaper, sometimes within days.  October 30th is a while away.

the problem every manu of vid card adds stuff to the card which can affect performance tho ddr3 memory as a gen rule should be faster than ddr 2 just as ddr 2 outpace ddr1s

and like cars you never know if a new card will be a goodonetilsome1st adopters buy it and use it

ok back on topic, how do you dual channel ram?
  • foliotfoliot Member Posts: 88
i wouldnt reccomend you to get one of those 700 mb cards, the 8800s, if your mb only supports 2 gigs, then the mb may not be able to handle that card.  2 gigs is more than enough if it is dual channel. dual channel ram has been the standard the past oh... 5 years.

ahh so its an automatic thing it does by itself...i see i see..and yea i was thinking about the 700mb vid cards and theyd probably need a cord from the power supply to power it...which my computer doesnt have...so ill probably go with the512mb card since it didnt seem to need that extra plug

Serious, if you're getting a video card to play this game don't get the card till the day before the game ships. It's probably the single most important component to affect AoC performance and you want the absolute best you can afford. The longer you wait the lower the price, generally. And if this game needs or even wants more than two Gigs of RAM, Funcom can kiss my ass, there are limits.
