Is LOTRO like DDO at all?

I tried ddo when it came out and couldn't really get into it  so went back to EQ2  my rading guild fell apart so i have been beta testing vanguard since it's been out  and let's just say VG doesn't have a lot of fun factor at the moment and with reading the posts on LOTRO it sounds like turbine might have a winner. So is Lotro just DDO but in middle earth?

The only thing I see in common is they have the same developer. The games themselves are like comparing apples to oranges.

No, DDO was a virtual train wreck. LOTRO is solid and vibrant.  The character customization is much much better than DDO. A couple of similarities is the AI, which needs work, and NPC behavior, a lack thereof.

Big thumbs up over DDO. (even though I'm not going to play it)

DDO was like a city with these repeatable instanced quests. LOTRO is more like a wide open world with lots of quests in the tradition of eq1-ac-ac2-wow with a single zone for high level pvp, (like a wow battleground). Looks beatiful, not extremely demanding on hardware, pretty bug-free, and more content at release than DDO. Open-beta in a week, you can play it for free for 18 days and see for yourself.

LOTRO Is nothing like DDO at all.. if anything its alot like World of WarCraft.. only with better graphics.

There's nothing wrong with DDO, sure it's different and not what SOME people may have expected but it's a great game and is as beautiful to look at as LOTRO in it's own way, it has the same engine and attention to detail that it's sister game has.

The dungeons and combat are easily the best out there and it has come a long way since launch and it has big plans for this year.

DDO will benefit from LOTRO and Turbine have stated that there will be elements that will swap over, DDO will be getting a lot more open spaces in Module 4 which is very soon! Crafting too!

Those of you who were in LOTRO beta commented that one of the things you liked about Turbine was their ability to listen to suggestions from the playerbase, well that has been happening in DDO for the past few months, all the recent changes were more or less player suggestions, it is going in the right direction and those that play it love it!

DDO is doing fine, it's a year old now, it's survived it's supposed doom in the form of the release of Neverwinter Nights 2.

DDO is NOT a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, just different.....................God, people make it sound like bloody Vanguard and it's very annoying! (To me anyway!)

You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.

I had high hopes for DDO. I talked 4 of my friends into picking up the $10 preorder DVD.

After a few days, we all uninstalled.

Yes it has came a long way from the release days, but most people gave it one chance and they blew it.

DDO should have been like more open an less instances to begin with. I liked combat, but the lack of depth at release was

    a big turn off.

I feel that they have done a great job on LOTRO. One day, I will do another trial of DDO out of respect for Turbine.

To me they are night and day. Everything seems done right in LOTRO and DDO seems to have most things wrong.

When you play an MMORPG, you want to be able to see people walking around doing things. Run into people passing by from A to B.

I agree with Wester. DDO has improved much. The sad thing is that it is suffering the same situation as AC2. It got a bad start, so it's almost impossible to recover its playerbase from that. I personally hate players who give a game just one chance, but most players work like that. I kept going back to AC2 when it was still running, because the game improved. I still play AC because it's still constantly improving.

LotRO has a good mix of instanced and non-instanced quests and hunting areas. You can solo or group as you wish, successfully in either case.

Artwork and detail are very impressive.  I was hoping only that they didn't mess up the lore; they did much, much better than that.
