elemer, SoE is a cheap money grubing corporation, they'll never drop subscription rates. They can't remove the tutorial, they don't have the server population per race to keep low levels. The Drakkin race and starting city, does have 1-75 armor quests (I haven't done them past 35). All the flags can now be solo'd or back flagged in or both (and let me tell you this pissored ME off!).

Is there no respect for Original Games anymore? Should we also destroy all the old Final Fantasy games 1-6 because they use 64 bit graphics or less, lets forget about the original Solid Snake, and while we're at it i guess the original God of War is old now and should stop being sold. WoW woudln't be around for people to think it the best thing in the world if it wasnt for the success games like EQ and Ultima etc had. What kind of attitude is this to just thinking if its not new its junk? And i'm just curious when does a game turn old cuz it isnt like WoW just came out a month ago its got a couple years under its belt.I'm not hating on WoW btw it does take something to have 8 million customers. If anything i'm hating on those that don't recognize where there favoite games orignate and put those games down.i'm just shouting at the rain i guess lol.
Those old console games never changed, they will always be the same experience. But EQ has changed, and unless a server recreates the same mechanics, the EQ many people loved is gone....probably forever.
I had just left EQ when they announced the progression servers so I hung around to play on them and I'm really glad I did. EQ is fun again for me. The fact that the level cap at the time was 50 and easily reached was part of my decision to stay with the game, and even though now it is at 70, there are still a ton of players like myself that are hanging around 65 and taking our time as we work our way through the progression in a nice, relaxed way. I'm having more fun now than I have in the prior 2 years. There are lots of casual guilds at various stages of progression and now that the "hard-core" raiders have moved on to OOW/GoD, the rest of us are having a field day in earlier content. My guild is still raiding in velious/luclin/early pop and we will be doing this for quite some time until we exhaust ourselves in that content and then move on.
I would hardly call EQ a "Dead game". I'm not gonna sit here and try to say everything is all peaches and cream, EQ certainly has it's problems, not the least of which is the low end game and the lack of new players to group with. The upside is that leveling through the first 50 levels has been made so easy, including obtaining basic gear, that even a true newbie can get theirselves up to speed in a few weeks. On progression there are a LOT of active players in the 50 - 65 range and at that point grouping becomes much easier. Because we are only into omens/god content, gear expectations/aa requirements by even the leading edge raiders are much lower than on standard servers, to say nothing of casual players like myself.
So is EQ dying? I've been reading about that for years but I don't see it except on servers like Zek, (PvP) and FV, (roleplaying). EQ really could use a greater steady number of new/returning players though or even on progression eventually the gap between new players and vets will become too great to bridge and will send players off looking for new games to get in early on. some serious marketing needs to be done to help that out imho. As far as fun goes though, all I can say is that I'm having a ball. If you are thinking about trying EQ check out the progression servers if you are intimidated by having to catch up to lvl 75 1k+ aa / endgame geared characters. Even if you are not intimidated by that sort of thing, check us out anyway. The chances of seeing content that made EQ great are, for the most part, much better on progression that elsewhere.
