What is the Loot System like?

Wondering what the loot system is like, to me you have your 3 basic mmo loot systems

1 - EQ Style - Named mobs drop specific items, not really anything to find on normal trash mobs (in general)

2 - AC Style - Weapons/Armor/Items drop all the time, with a random generator deciding what type/quality you get

3 - Wow Style - A mixture of the two, random drops of everyday mobs, and sometimes the occasional named mob who can drop something special.

Wolfs , will drop wolf stuff like skin , pelts. No animal in LotRO will drop a weapon , armor or recipe. all humanoid mobs will drop those kind of items.

    Sounds good!

Nice to see they are keeping it realistic.  Is loot from everyday mobs comparable to quest rewards, and do boss mobs drop special items?

Every once in a while , very rarely will you get a drop that is better then a quest item, but there will be very rare recipes along the way to craft specialty items.

Now after leveling and messing with a crafter to nearly master 2nd tier, I have yet to make anything that can compare to a quest and far from comparing anything I can make to a quested item... In short, at the present with only 3 days to toy with it... The crafting system, weaponsmithing at the moment is more or less a worthless money sink.

Think the are trying to curve it, so it is still work in progress. The best in game items will be crafted . The recipes and iteams are color coded for  different status's like white , yellow , blue . purple to show if the items are common,  uncommon, rare ect.

Yep, once I mastered the first tier thats when I thought with critical successes that I could make some nice stuff to use... Nope, worthless still... heh.... Tweaking or not, seems like crafting was an afterthought to me... but most games are like that save the old swg.

All I can say is if you live in the past, you will never be satisfied in the present.

Ah, it's cool... I played WoW and I actually enjoyed the later weaponsmithing and earlier... Arcanite Reaper ftw.... End Game TBC crafted stuff though tedious to farm was as good as or better than any looted weapon you could get....

I look at it like this - If i spend hours and hours everyday to keep my crafting to near equal skill to my fighting... Should I not be able to make useful items?

Simply put - if you cannot craft items that are better than quested or drop'd items then why have crafting? @.o

I have found that I can get better items at lower levels by buying crafted items.

However, if I want to use what I crafted unless it is jewelry, then I'm behind the curve.

Just put up your junk on the AH. I have plenty of alts and rarely replace the crafted items, that

my friend sends me. Think of all the stuff people will buy if they didn't preorder. You can make plenty of

    money of new players.
