MMO Melting Pot

Reading through posts on here as I do frequently at the moment as I don't have a game that I'm currently playing, amongst the flames, questions and complaints I see something that I really like;

People dedicated to and really looking forward to many up-coming titles. You all know what these are, WAR, AoC, PotBS, TR, STO, LotRO etc.

In almost every thread you'll see someone eagerly anticipating one game or another.

What's this got to do with the title of this thread?

It dawned on me (and of course this is only my personal view) that World of Warcraft is just a giant Melting Pot for MMOers. I played WoW for a good while and enjoyed the game, I can see it's merits and it's faults. (please this is not a WoW is great / rubbish thread).

WoW caters to (or tries to cater to) all players and it does this quite successfully, but many people are unhappy with the game for one reason or another.

I do believe that come this time next year the MMO scene will look quite different, while I think that Blizzard will continue to hold the majority market share of MMO gamers, we'll see people separating off and being dispersed amongst some of the fine titles I mentioned previously. There will finally be viable choices.

WoW at this current time is like a waiting room, full of people patiently or not so patiently waiting to leave on the mode of transport they're waiting for.

I'm very interested to see how things pan out, the end of this year is a very exciting time for MMOs and the MMO community.

    I, for one, will not be paying Blizzard to wait for a better game.  It's a waste of money.  There are plenty of "free to play" games with which to entertain one's self without needing to spend a dime.

      If WoW is a melting pot for MMOs it looks like someone forgot to throw in the dash of sandbox and the pinch of strategy.
