Ok I feel kinda daft about making two newbposts this close to each other but, hell, I wanna play dammit :p

I`ve created an account. I`ve downloaded client and installed it. I`m trying to log in but just get the message "could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isnt running or the server address or port number was wrong"

I obviously have a connection up and running. I`m at GMT+1 and so the server should be down at about 12:00-13:00 here, but its supposed to have been up half an hour ago. Cant find any place where it describes serverstatus on eve`s page either. The closest thing I found said:

We've been adding hardware to the server cluster in the last weeks. Today, we added the latest batch of servers and due to the patch problems we had to deploy certain server-side hotfixes. Problems arose in startup, after which we started rolling back the server-side hotfixes and then the hardware to isolate the problem. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope you understand our urgency in adding both hardware and server-side hotfixes to address the issues on Tranquility.

Does this mean that the game will be up shortly? My command of the english language is somewhat lacking so I might have missed something obvious somewhere.

info would be appreciated :)

eve.coldfront.net will give you the server status

Besides that check out the Known issues and workaround forums

There are usually several of these threads there because of EVE conflicting with AV or firewall programs. Check them out and see if any help you out. By the way you can try and tracert to 87.237.38.200 which should be the IP to the server.

Tracert depends on ICMP which isn't always allowed in all networks. It can't be depended upon to test a connection unless it works. If it doesn't work it could mean a lot of things, but if it does, the box is definitely  alive and returning ICMP at the other end. If it doesn't work, it doesn't tell you much.

A better test is to use telnet on the port you are testing:

******5700 is not the eve port, it's being used as an illustration.

    C:> telnet 87.237.38.200 5700

If it returns a blank screen, or a bunch of gobbledygook the service is alive on that port. If you know it's a good port and you can't connect to it then something in between (like a firewall) is blocking that port. You'll get an error message if the port is blocked or not up.

expect the servers to be a tad buggy on patch days. always seems to happen. As for helping other people the farther you get int the game the more you'll realize that there are parts you have absolutely no clue about.

Oh yes. No longer frustrated, just hooked. Upgraded to.. Kestrel? Krestel? That K one at least :)

Looking to upgrade to destroyer in a short while. Just got salvage and I hope it will help my funding some :)

Love the fact that I can train my skills, even when I`m going away for a few days. Big skills next!

Died once so far (damn 25 pirates in a neverending stream) and lost my first Kestrel. Happily I had insured it, so getting a new one with same fitting and better shields was just a matter of time. Its getting easier to do things ingame and the guys in rookie help-channel are doing an amazing job (did I say that already? Oh well, it can`t be said often enough :)

Was thinking that I was just gonna do the trial and do some singleplayer games while waiting for AoC, But I`m REALLY enjoying this game so I`ll probably dish out the dough for the full thing. Thanks for all the feedback and a great ingame community :)
