Suggestion: Reset the rating when a game goes live

I have a great suggestion for MMORPG.com

Please reset the rating meter when a game goes live. Alot of games get a really high score before release from the hype and then when they are released people realize how bad they are. But they still have a artificially propped up rating because of all the fanboy ratings while in beta.

So why not just reset the meter to 0.0 when the game goes live and get a true rating after people have actually played it.

I think if MMORPG.com did this many of the games with a 7.5 or over rating would drop. Prime examples are Vanguard and Dreamlords... These games just released and were hyped to hell and up and after release nothing but complaints on how buggy and unplayable they are.

Or, to even take the idea further, the ratings could show as timelines if wanted :)

In the timeline there could be certain points indicating "Launch", "Patch 1.3" etc. Of course this probably means manual work and so is updated only for the most popular games, and then you would have to store the ratings for every month (for example) instead of counting the rating continuously, since people can change their ratings as their opinion of the game changes, possibly due to the changes that come with the patches and extensions to the games.

This way one could easily see that "oh, they seem to be adding a lot of RP content/mechanics to the game continuously, since the rating is getting higher all the time!"

Without the patch indicators in the timeline, of course, there wouldn't be any need for manual work either.

BUT, I like the idea of the thread's original writer, even without my additional musings :)

This is already done.  Before a game is released it has a rating based on the Hype players give it.  After a game is released it has a Player rating based on it's playability.  They are separate ratings.  That's  at least one of the reasons the color of the ratings are different.
