You can't jump! I mean, what's an MMO without the ability to jump?! ( I'm being completely and utterly serious. )
You can't jump in FFXI, and imo, that's a GREAT game. Why the heck should jumping be important for a MMO?
It serves as a pacifier for ADD kids.
Also, it allows you to create actually decent strategies instead of, "I know, I'll just hide behind this log which I can shoot over whilst they run the long way around!"
Jumping is pivotal to the development of MMOs. If we don't have jumping, we don't have love.
I agree with the jumping although it's not game-breaking for me. The reason I didn't stay on Ryzom was because the community was too small for a pretty large game.
I wish no games allowed you to jump. I really get tired of seeing people jumping around every location for no good reason.
I get tired of the inability to jump over a small log...
The last time I played Ryzom, I don't remember seeing any small logs which prevented me from moving about. there isn't anything you need to jump over. The game was designed without the need to jump. I didn't realize I couldn't jump until someone else mentioned it in game... why? Because I never needed the feature.
I agree with kb4blu, I found it refreshing to go without the children who can't stop hitting the jump button.
I also dislike any game where I can't jump. Jumping isn't required, but it does make you feel like you're in heavy gravity. I dunno, I guess I just see the ability to lift off the ground as a sense of freedom. If I use it or not, I like to know I can jump off the cliff rather then glide down the sheer sloap magneticly locked to the ground. I like the sense of 3D that jumping gives you, otherwise the game feels 2D.

The community isn't actually as small as you would think. The game really is very large, and the shear size of land mass allows for some decent distance between players. Additionally, the game has a rather large European player base, so it can sometimes seem a little light in players online for US players.
I played Ryzom for a while, and found it to be a rather nice experience. It certainly isn't as populated as some other games, but it is by no means barren.

If you give me your home address, i'll sent you a really cool po-go stick. Then go outside and play. Because if this is what your focus is on in a game, you obviously have nothing to contribute to the community.

You're just restating what I already said. The game is big, the community is too small for the size of the game so the world felt empty to me.

I didn't really restate what you said... I added my own perspective to the reason why the community *seems* smaller than it really is. I was not criticizing you... and I apologize if it came across that way.
No, I wasn't offened or anything. ^^; I do wish more people played (or more US players for my timezone) because it really is a good game. (even if you can't jump :P)
I agree... it would be nice if more people jumped into Ryzom... beautiful environment, the community is great, and it's just plain fun. I am going to have to get back into it myself. After my last PC died (I was without for some time), I cancelled my sub and sort of never went back.
I get nervous when I can't jump in an MMO. No idea why. It's not as if I hop around irl or anything. I also get annoyed if I can't dance, which I also hardly do irl.
There is no need to jump in ryzom, if ya could jump it wouldnt do anything for the game as it is not a needed function, and i think the gravity is much higher on the living planet that causes jumping to be very hard and somewhat of a burdon,
Are you serious? That's the reason you dropped Ryzom? It wasn't the shit graphics, or the messy fighting system?
I'm usually fine with bad graphics but not Ryzom graphics. The graphics in Ryzom are those "these graphics are bad, but you know that the company can make them better" type.
Also, I mean you can fight a rabbit then you have to rest for 10 minutes before you can fight another rabbit. It's just rediculous. The only thing Ryzom has going for it is it's crafting system.

The graphics are not that bad. They are simply a different style than other games. They sure beat WoW, anyway, and the game has little lag. The fighting system works just fine, there isn't an issue with it. It might not be your style, but it isn't bad. I never had to wait 10 minutes for combat... the rest period was not any harsher than other games.
You are right about crafting though... the system for that is pretty nice.

QFE nothing like seeing some idiot jumping around like a bunny on crack! It wouldn't bother me soo much but how the heck can you aim and fire while jumping? Not to mention swing a sword or what ever!
I don't mind people hopping around and looking happy. I also reserve my right to look like a complete prat, if I like.
As for Ryzom... I beta tested and played it for a couple of months after the launch. I found it to be pretty meh, although the crafting was kind of interesting. I really thought the stanza system was going to be a whole lot more fun than it turned out. I was disappointed.

If you refer to bunny hopping, well that is just stupid and cheesy. They should make you 10 time easier to hit, give you triple the wounds and occasional broken ankles/stuns.

I tried playing GuildWars and a few minutes in I was told I couldn't jump over tiny rocks.
I said "Uh, wtf I can kill a bear with a bow but I can't jump over this?"
