LOTRO Timing - Due Dilligence

I must say that the timing of the LOTRO Launch is near mint, perfect. I cannot in any way see a better timing than what they have come up with.

Consider this. I played in the beta before New year, and the game was polished to my surprise, it played out perfectly. these guys could have launched at that time, or in any of the following months, and LOTRO would have been recieved pretty good, I believe.

They held it back. They held it back 3-4 months more than, most other companies, as we see, would. This is wise, not only for polish, but to strike the absolute perfect timing in the market.

This is a few months after TBC, the hype has died down, those who were eager to continue wow, may be alittle tired of it now, and want to see something else.. Vanguard crashed, and has to set sails again, which im sure it can!

What im trying to say, is that we see a void in the MMO market right now, in these months.. People are looking, and cannot find anything.. AOC and WAR is looming on the horizon, but still too far away, to soothe the markets need for something new.

With their finetuned engine, polished gameplay, casualness and not least the now  mass appeal Tolkien tag, the guys at the board, payed attention when the professor talked about due dilligence.

Im seeing a winner coming to port. Lets see if im not right about this one.

Cheers

Yes, can't disagree with you on the timing.... it would seem to be about as perfect as Turbine could have hoped....

Well I also have been playing since Alpha, it was pretty solid then, and the constantly improve and add things even to this day. I glad that a few companies take thier game release seriously, and bring us "finished" products.

I will be playing until AoC or WAR lets me in thier beta.

I also think, that LOTRO will survive, just because of the fact, that its a gme that you would like to have at your bed side, just like a good book, to open up and read some.

It doesnt try ad be all that, its a nice well polished game. And I like very much the idea, that they are releasing now in this mmo void. Compared to say Vanguard, Im shocked, they could release it on top of TBC, and in so an unpolished state. Its a trick that does not work that good anymore.

Maybe LOTRO will be the first to follow WoW's example, in polish at least, a change in the market perhabs.

Yep. The timing is perfect. Couldn't been better for me actually. I quit WoW and is looking for a new game, AoC and WAR is on the horizon and will take some time before they are out. Then LOTRO just pops up, lovely.

    /agreed.

PoTBS: has languished too long, I'm afraid game will be outdated at release.

TCOS: small company, languishing... just can't seem to get it done. Will most likely postpone again (?)

VG: mangement disaster. Need liquid nitrogen cooled super computer to run it.

    AoC: pushed back to october.

    WAR: christmas 2007 ?

WoW-TBC: yawn. (it's an oddity of nature that people still grind this game... who knows why).

    (others): even later release.

LOTRO: it works. Not demanding on hardware. good IP. and a 10/mo cheap deal.

Summer of 2007... what else is there really?  Some of the biggest money making movies were not necessarilly the best, just BETTER than any other choices the consumer had before them....

/seconded, thirded, or whatever number we are on

I think we will see LOTRO become bestseller number 2 after WoW if we look away from Lineage I and II.

It should sell atleast 350,000 copies within the first month after release and that's a pretty nice sale compared to what the overall mmorpg has.

WoW is an abomination when it comes to numbers so no need to try and compare a game to those numbers.

It's not realistic that any game will even be close to selling 8 million copies.

If Turbine plays their card right they will hit the magic million sold copies but that requires they can keep up with adding more areas and content in updates.

The world is pretty small compared to other games and there is not a zillion dungeons so they have to add some more areas, dungeons pretty fast after release, but they have said they have a major first update ready within a few months after relese so i'm confident Turbine will give us what we crave for.

They may not have a lot of classes but hey,WoW only has 2 more classes.

I can't wait to see where this game is in 2 years when they have added a few expansions.

Have to agree also. Funny too that this time last year I was the only one in my group of appx  fifteen long time gaming friends who thought this might turn out good. now it looks as if 11 or 12 of them  have pre ordered the game.  A couple are sticking with EQ2 and one with WoW but pretty much everyone I know is looking for a change of pace and LoTRO is it. The wild part  is this is the first time most of us have agreed on a game since the days of UO.

    I miss DAoC

I don't know that they'll have a few months. I'd say they better have something in the hopper and ready to go for some time around the 2nd month, tops. Especially since they're breaking tradition, and letting people that preorder keep their open beta character, even if it is only lvl 15.

If developers underestimate one thing more so than any other it's the rate at which the players will devour the content.

I agree with the original poster on this one absolutely.

I think this is definately an example of Turbines Dilligance and dediation to see their latest project become a "real" contender in this market space and the release date i think is one example of how well managed this development has been.
