The Official Renaming of MMORPG in speech

Has anyone ever said M.M.O.R.P.G. out loud?

It sounds so stupid. It doesn't even sound geeky, it's just down right nerdy sounding.

I propose we come up with a way to say MMORPG without saying M.M.O.R.P.G. out loud, to save ourselves from this horrible fate of looking like complete and total nerds. I don't mind being called a geek or looking like a geek, I actually like it, but sounding and feeling like someone off Revenge of the Nerds V Nerds in Space is something totally different.

just say you play Roflcopter Online. That'll make it all better. This thread is ridiculous. I can't believe you actually care that saying m m o r p g makes you "sound" nerdy. Time to grow up and stop caring what other people think about how you "sound".

It is pathos we lack, and this lack of pathos makes the worlds we explore quite stale.

Being grown up has nothing to do with anything. I know 40yr olds who are more immature than some 15yr olds I know.

If you think that cliques/labels like Jock, Nerd, etc. disappear when you get older... it might be time for you to grow up, don't you think?

I don't care if you're the smartest person in the world, if you can't politic and impress people you're not going ANYWHERE in life. FFS, do you think Stephen Hawkings got to where he is because he's smart? pfft. Try again. He got to where he is because of his friends, of course he wouldn't be there if he wasn't a super genius, but even still without knowing the right people he would not be in the same position held by Sir Isaac Newton.

Oh and Bill Gates created this great thing called DOS that allowed anyone to run a personal computer and he just became super rich because it was so great... right? WRONG. He took someone else's idea and he sold it. How do you sell? You get people to like you. He sure as hell didn't walk into that office to give his presentation looking like a bum that just walked in from behind the dumpster in the alley, that's for damn sure.

Not that topic of this thread is going to make or break someone. I'm just stating a point.

    I usually just say "MMO".

There are currently too few MMOs that aren't RPGs too worry about semantics.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

at my old studio (MMO Developer) we used to say "mmorpg-dot-com" out loud all the time and everybody knew what we were talking about.  Including, but not limited to, Dana Massey. :-D

I've simply been pronouncing it like "More pee gee"

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Stephen Hawking sounds like a computer. That doesn't stop him from writing books, and talking about the things he's interested in. And he certainly doesn't dumb it down, or try to make it sound cool and hip for the masses. So you sir, don't know what you're talking about. gg

The trick is to say it really really fast so that it blends together like one long word....  ememohrpg.

Or just say MMO.  Of course that leads to the obligatory explaining of "what the hell is an M M O R P G?" .... and then you have to say the single most nerdy phrase in all of history "It's a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game".

I've found it's nearly impossible to explain the concept of an MMO to someone who doesn't play videogames.
