You should ask : which FF have you played, and which one is your favorite?
Because a lot of ppl have only played 2 or 3 of them.
I have played :
FF1
FF4 (FF2 in USA)
FF5
FF6 (FF3 in USA)
FF7
FF8 (didn't finished it)
FF10 (didn't finished it)
FF12 (working on it)
FF tactics
FF Legend 3 - on the gameboy
FF Mystic Quest
My favorite :
FF6, story was so good, a lot of characters (General Leo, Shadow, Umaro, Locke, Mog, so much memory
Finaly, I won't ever buy a FF again, I did not enjoy the 8th, the 10th and the 12th, I guess it's because I've played earlier FF and I'm more old school. FF has changed so much since that time, they are quality games, but aim a different audience than me. Most recent RPG I had fun playing was Dragon Quest 8.

Good point. I have played them all except for FF3. The series has been crap since starting with FF11, and when I read what they're planning with FFXIII it just makes me sick. Talk about ruining a series. Oh well, as long as FF is in the title itwill sell, so why should they care about quality.
personally I like 12, although I do agree it's a tad bland but being based in the Tactics world, it kinda automatically assumes you 'know' things (ie Judges, Epsers, Races, History etc..), hopfully it's sequal will fill in the holes for ppl and not just tack on a 'new' story *glares at 10-2*..
6 is my most favored one, it's deep, it's actally fun, and the good guys 'lose', odd but it's kinda boring 'knowing' that nout bad will actally happen cuz you kill 'x' boss that stops it, in 6 world = BOOOM! 9 comes in a close 2nd as it brings back the whole feel of FF which dropped off as 7 and 8 felt far too Scifi tbh (although still good) it's not Final Scifi is it? and theres always Vivi
Tactics, its the only one that is a real challenge. Ive played through the whole game 10+ times, and I still get my ass royaly handed to me in certain battles if I dont have the right classes with me or I dont move my people right.

I have to go with Final Fantasy 7 and 8. I like the battle system and materia system in FF7 better, but I prefer the storyline of FF8, and I loved the near-future sci fi setting.
I played all "main" FF games (excluding, lets call them "side quest" games, such as FF: crystal chronicles, Final Fantasy Legend etc), but for some reason, I never liked any of the Final Fantasy games released prior to Final Fantasy 7.
FF9 had to be the worst...I played it probably the least of all of them.
my favorite would be FF7, then tactics, then FF3. But i have to say the most original IMO was Tactics...such a great game. I've played that the most out of all of them.

FF9 was a recreation of the old school after the collective protests of those who opposed VII & VIII. I thought it was pretty awesome, had a ton of stuff to do besides the main quest.
Personally, I think 7 was the best because of its amazing story and awesome materia system (I loved the minigames too ) and its overall...happiness? I don't know how to describe it, FF8's world seems so dreary by comparison. By the way, does anyone else have a problem with starting these games but not finishing? The only ones I've finished are 7 and 10, though I own 7 to 10-2 and 12 :S
Edit: When I say 7 was the best, I actually mean 8 was my favourite.

I played FF7 but was never able to kill Bizzaro Sephiroth so I just gave up for many years. The first Final Fantasy I actually finished was FF8. I recently forced myself to go back and play all of them from start to finish, starting with FFIV and ending with FFX. I enjoyed them all, especially when I finally finished off Sephiroth and watch FFVII's ending. That leaves on FFXI and FFXII on my list of unfinished...and I don't forsee either of those happening anytime soon
I'd be impressed if you manage to finish an MMO heh.
By the way, FFXII was pretty dissapointing Imo. I didn't really like the direction SE took.
Well, Square-Enix is split into little camps with lead designers leading various teams and they switch off alot on projects. So the team that made VII, VIII, and X didn't make XII. And the guys that made VI made IX.
Final Fantasy XII was made by the team that had done Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Advance, and Vagrant Story. So basically the story was nothing like what I was expecting...it was actually quite bad. The political story worked for Tactics, but it feels totally contrived in XII and many hours into the game I still didn't have empathy for any of the main characters. The only thing I enjoyed about XII was the new combat system which I think is a good compromise with the old menu system (though there are tweaks that need to be made, like the camera angle not allowing for large cinematic boss battles).
The good thing for people like me that loved XII's combat but hated its story and characters... Final Fantasy XIII (the main one, not the two spinoffs) is being made by the same guys that made VII and VIII and I think X. Nobuo Uematsu is again only doing a single piece in the soundtrack, so that's not great...

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I can't stand turn based things.
Now with 57.3% more flames!
Least Favorite: Final Fantasy XII (hated the storyline, and the main characters were pretty bland)
A lot of old schoolers will say Final Fantasy VI was their favorite...I just don't see it though. Kefka is pretty much the only cool thing about FFVI.

Life sucks, buy a helmet.
FF9 was my favorite... Followed by 8
FF10 killed final fantasy in my opinion... Terrible story

Well, since we are on a Final Fantasy topic...I heard that they might "remake" Final Fantasy 7 for the PS3.
I saw the tech demo that they made but still not too sure on if they are making it. Anyone know?

Wow that sounds complicated reading back over it.
