Cybercriminals won't stop until they are held accountable.
MMORPG admins please report the ANI/Trojan virus at http://www.ic3.gov or another authority.
People who lost accounts, characters, or items should also report it. A "police report" can ease recovering your loss from the game operators, as it helps legitimize your claim.

Man, I live in Phoenix, where we enjoy shootings, stabbings, people setting people on fire, and crazy homeless people roaming the streets like 'Night of the Living Dead' because the sun is over cooking their noodles. Hell, my young daughter witnessed some dude walking down the sidewalk naked a few weeks ago while we were at a restaraunt.
I can just imagine calling Phoenix police and asking them to come over because someone got into my EQ2 account. I'd have a night-stick hanging out of my ass like I was a happy dog.

You know trivialising crime doesn't lessen the impact that it has. I would like MMORPG.com to step up and help us users that were affected by this Hacker Groups attack on this site. My main computer was infected with this virus and I immediately ran a scan of my computer and it was missed because it was newer than my programs data base. I had to find out from another user on this site what to look for manually and that was how I discovered it was on my computer.
MMORPG.com didn't point the finger at the virus or what to look for which I think is inexcusable, nor have they offered any advice on how it can be removed manually for those of us using anti-virus software that hasn't caught up with the threat this poses. I found out tonight that one of my game accounts was ransacked because of this virus and now I have to try and get the gaming company to restore it if they will that is. They got at least one person with this attack, who knows how many others were negatively affected.
oh okey... I think I downloaded a windows update not long ago that said something about that? I might be wrong but I hope I didnt catch a virus in any case
Or you may have made the authorities aware that someone is using a virus to steal personal information, which may very well have been a test run for something more sinister. Part of the torjan was a keylogger... do you do your personal banking online? Do you pay bills online? Do you do anything that involves sensitive information? Email account username and password?
Report all crime to the authorities. It is not your job to determine what is important to them, they have systems in place to determine what is important and what isn't. Chances are, if someone is doing one type of illegal activity, it's not a far cry that they may try something worse... if they haven't already.
The correct people to report a virus attack to in the US happens to be the FBI. Follow this link to read up on what they do, and to file a complaint: www.fbi.gov/cyberinvest/cyberhome.htm
