Would upgrading RAM make this PC run faster?

Dell Dimension 8300 Desktop

Currently have 512 MB RAM.  Would taking those out- getting a 1GB and then later on sometime getting another 1GB make games run faster on my CPU?

 Intel(R)

Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz

2.79GHz, 512 MB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics

I plan on getting a new graphics card sometime.

What would be a good one for my system?

Ok, your CPU is ok, RAM sucks, VGA sucks. And yes upgrading your RAM would boost the performance by much

Do you or anyone else have any suggestions for buying the RAM?

Like places you have bought from or know someone who has and like the service and quality of the product.

    Your CPU is below average.

Everything else sucks bigtime so you might want to get a new computer really.

What kind of gameing are you into? Name a few games, upcommings or currents that you'd like to try.

    Well, you can check here

I would advise you to upgrade your Graphics card just as much.  That card is pretty bad.  Believe it or not, the 4600TI series ran better than your current card (4600 series came out in 2001).

If you buy a gig of RAM and keep that graphics card, you'll see no difference.  You'll be bottlenecking your system.  Your RAM would be useless if your video card doesnt have the power to effectively "translate" the more advance graphic coding. At the same time your lack of RAM wont do a new video card any good because it will not be able to process any raw data.

My advice to you is buy both at the same time and then buy a better CPU later on......or buy a new computer all together  Otherwise, one will cancel the other out.

Yes...Upgrading your RAM is always a good investment, and the more you have the better I say.

Check your power supply before you buy a new graphics card...the new ones draw a lot of juice.

I want just a new CPU if I buy a computer. I have a good monitor and it serves me well.

I want something 1,000 USD or under

    Pref. under :P

So if anyone can show me a good CPU under that price please post the link.

    Here's one.

Just spend an extra 70 bucks getting a better graphics card.

    Buy 2gbs of ram

Find the newest or best GPU for your interface slot, either pci , agp, or pci- e

if you have pci-e, get somethign within your price range, but id recommend at least a geforce 7 series card.

then when yu get more money,  down the road, get a new comp.

will upgrading to 2gbs of ram and a new video card change it that much though?

i dont have much money right now so i cannot go and get a new CPU for a while.

But i dont want to go buy 2GB RAM and a new video card if it is not going to change my gaming experience too much.
