Originally posted by KariTR But what exactly are the critics critiquing? They arent even playing the game. When posters who are playing say anything positive they are instantly scorned and told they are in denial. Well let me see, who am I going to believe; the guy who hasnt got a clue or the guy who backs up his opinion with $15 per month. Tough one no? If I came here looking for information, I'd mostly find a lot of "sux" and "lols" - on many of the game forums not just VG's. And yet the OP states rather arrogantly "One thing I DO like about this site though is this. Most of us are harsh critics of MMORPG's and want them to be held to higher standards." I'll tell you, that comment sure had me laughing. The General Forum should be renamed "Free P2P discussions" and unfortunately the plethora of posts asking "Is this game free?" seep into every individual game forum too. IF there is one underlying reason that MMOs are routinely chucked out sub-par then blame the majority of MMO players (who probably put Blizzards WoW 8 million to shame) who will never shove their hands in their pockets to actually pay for quality even when it is made available to them.
It doesn't matter. Vanbois are in denial no matter if you are playing the game or not. For example, there was a thread about subscription numbers. MX13 argued for pages and pages that 175k is the subscription numbers whereas it was actually the sales figures. But you see, that is what he wants to believe. And no matter what you do, you can't convince him. And then Brad came out and confirmed that it was indeed the sales numbers and that he can not "yet" reveal the actual subscription numbers. But, surprisingly MX13 just vanished and didn't contribute a line when it was being discussed here.
Kari, this is just an example, but do you see what I mean? What can you discuss with this mindset? Or with someone who claims that the game has been thoroughly fixed now? Or that his server is packed with people and he can find a group in the snap of fingers? etc. etc.
ROFLMAO....
Actually, I argued that the Subs were around 120k... but why would the truth matter? Especially if it gets in the way of a good Trolling rant... LOL...Brad said they were more, but I can't remember the number. I defended what he said because Trolls, with no proof, decides to come in and "claim" they knew the secrets of the universe. Anyways, they've dropped a bit IMO, based on what I've seen.
Also, stop putting fake words in others mouths. I didn't disappear, I'm right here. It's not my job to argue back and foth with anyone. If I choose to ignore Trolls like you, too bad for you. I love that I stopped following a Cluster $%^& posts that spirals off topic, and trolls like you claim "VICTORY!!!"
Grow up...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
No, you did try to claim it was 175k subs over and over.
No, I didn't.
Here IS what I said:
Personally, I believe the total active Subs are around 120k, with about 30k additional Subs canceled and waiting to cycle out. Why? Well, after reading around and comparing Primetime User Numbers, that seems about right. Again, Personally, I don't think Canceled but not cycled Subs should be included in the numbers, but I won't call Brad a liar for activly communication with his customers on regular basis, even if I do believe he's looking at the Glass Half Full.

If that ratio is high then I would think Brad would want to pay attention. If a game is going OK then normally you have a good ratio between Hater and Fanboi. The bad thing now is that Haters are growing larger as well as louder. Every day the haters are gaining momentum because people are leaving the game. The fanbois are growing smaller because people who praised the game and worshiped at the feet of Brad are now feeling let down or are growing tired of the state of the game. Same thing happened with Dark and Light. It was so sad to see the last couple of die-hard fans of that game defend it's potential against hordes of angry mobs declaring how bad D&L stunk. I look around and more often than not: Silky Venom, IGN, MMORPG, FOH etc all are predominantly negative. Where is Brad going to post?
As one poster said, the amount of "ammo" provided by Sigil certainly only serves to support the hater mentality. Let's face facts, if you spend five years counting on someone and waiting for that person to do something and they screw up, the level of your intensity and anger will be huge. Go date someone for five years and then have them screw you over and see if you don't gripe endlessly about them for years to come. Hire someone to build you a mansion, wait five years on it to be done and then see if you don't want to go all Scarface on the contractor when the pipes bust or the windows fall out.......The more effort you put into waiting on a game, the worse the fallout when said game turns out to be the "Waterworld" of MMORPGs.
For years those of us on the Sigil boards begged Sigil to stop letting the Vanbois flame everyone who didn't want the most uber, hardcore game imaginable. And for years Brad ignored those requests for moderation and let them flame us and tell everyone "go back to WoW." So we did lol, and his subscription numbers have paid the price for it. So Brad, now you don't like what you're reading? Well that's just too damn bad.
Hope you're having fun in WoW. As for Brad, I am fairly certain he has better things to do than troll MMORPG.com when he has serious work to do.
Anyway, I know a lot of trash gets posted here, but I like to believe that our little corner of the internet has some good, constructive conversations sometimes. All things considered, we aren't even CLOSE to being as rude to one another and to the Sigil developers as fohguild.com is. So I don't buy that noise/ratio complaint mess.
QFT!
I agree with you there sepher. We do have our moments here on mmorpg.com , but for the most part it's fairly civil. Another thing is that the mods are pretty fair with the moderating of the posts. I've gotten some pretty quick responses through e-mail whenever I've had a question about something that I didn't think was right.
Not to say I necessarily agree with everything and everyone here at mmorpg.com, but where would be the fun in that.

Brad has trolled a number of forums including FoH, Silky, et al.
MMORPG does not engage in censorship, and the truth hurts (is painful) to Brad. Brad is unable to reengineer reality at MMORPG by manipulating (editing, moving, and removing) posts critical of Vanguard.

Hey Anarchy Nice to talk again.
I believe your post is actually very accurate in terms of "Serious" work being required and even though you are a fan of the game and have fun playing you know full well i am not a fan and a disappointed player. I do however like to keep my negative points as constructuve as i can in respect of those whom still play in the game.
My point here being that ultimately i feel there is alot of wasted aggression and hate perhaps on these boards at times that goes both pro and anti Vanguard. And in the case of an application such as Vanguard there is simply no need i feel.
Essentially the majority of the games playing public and indeed the internet now know the current state and reputation of vanguard, hands down. The Negative press can be seen everywhere and you simply cannot censor the internet enough to mask that. A game will rise or fall on its own merits and the merits of its developers, and Vanguard has seriously stumbled out of the gates. That is a fact for a title based upon its budget and developement costs.
Anarchy has stated pretty much in many posts as a fan of the game that it needs some serious work in the coding department, and i myself have delved into this games technical issues many many times on a high level. My point being no amount of viral marketing or spin is going to save this application now....no way. The only people with the power to either save vanguard, or doom it to the "hall of the trajically broken" in the online space of MMORPG's is its developer Sigil, and they will either save vanguard by adding the much needed needed code level fixes and optimizations, or in their arrogance and belief of self superiorety, kill it. There is Nothing our "spin full", or "totally damning" postings will now do that they havent already done since vanguards release, the word is out, this application will indeed now either live a solid future or fail miserably on its own merits and its own merits alone.
I respect fans such as anarchy and his previous postings and they are right in that indeed Mr Mcquiad has a semi-broken and somewhat floundering (based on investment and cost) software title to be saving at the moment and probably fans of the game such as MX and Anarchy would rather see them posting patch notes on VG players as opposed to seeing Sigil Developers in sights such as MMORPG.com or any affiliate for that matter.
Time i feel and the "efforts" or "Non Efforts" of its developers are the only things that will determine the future of vanguard, and whilst debate here and reasonable argument is healthy there is also a lot of wasted spin, energy and hostility sometimes i feel that certainly NOW will achieve nothing at all.

Just a quick FYI... Sigil stops by all the time. I'd guess they just don't see much to comment on... The problem is that the Haters insist on taking over.
The Haters were once loyal Vanguard followers and players. They got screwed over by misleading upcoming game reviews and awesome game mechanics in which 60% of them were never implemented in the game (and more than half of that never will according to Sigil).
I think these "haters" has every right to be pissed. If Sigil feels uncomfortable coming here, then that is their perogative.
Haters DO NOT have the right to take over every conversation, and shout down others. Period.
I've been frustrated by this game, and been honest with it. That happens. If all you can to is bash the game without contributing anything of worth, you should leave. If you want to debate & discuss, let's do it.

I don't need to. Haters & Critics are two different things. Critics are welcome. If you're doing what I discribed above, you'r e a Hater. If you're not and being critical, you're a Critic. Discussing game, good or bad, is constructive. Shouting down, lying and abusing others is hating, and we don't need posters who act like that.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
hehe good read here. you have easily removed vanguard from my things to do list. ty for the heads up.
oh and i must say the part about this game being ready in 2008 is classic stuff. how anyone can pay to be a beta tester is beyond me. whoever this brad is tho he sounds like a genius. hehe anyone who can sucker folks into paying their bills for an unfinished product has got it goin on.
MX13, the exact figure is not that important. What is important is your blatant denial. You kept stubbornly insisting that what Brad revealed was the subscription numbers. And it was not! And you never accepted your error!
On the other hand, I have to accept that I errored about Vanbois too. I thought they were all the same. But some of them apparently come to realize the facts and be honest about them. True greatness lies in there my friend, not in denial!
I look around and more often than not: Silky Venom, IGN, MMORPG, FOH etc all are predominantly negative. Where is Brad going to post?
Things have gotten more positive at VNBoards because the mods went super heavy on the ban stick and warned people not to post there if they didn't have anything nice to say. I stopped posting there much because of the ban stick, already got banned once.
Haters DO NOT have the right to take over every conversation, and shout down others. Period. I've been frustrated by this game, and been honest with it. That happens. If all you can to is bash the game without contributing anything of worth, you should leave. If you want to debate & discuss, let's do it.
Here is where you are wrong. First off you generalize about "haters", and I am yet to see you aknowledge any mistake you have made (such as misinterpreted Brad quotes). Back during several phases of beta (unclear if you were around back then -- I mean official forums) the likes of me were bashed upon constantly for pointing out general design mistakes, such that are now "dumbed down" by the same developers. It was the era of the "yes men". I didn't say they had no right, they had, after all democracy is about the rule of the majority, I gave my 2 cents and stuck by to see. Now the tables have turned, proving gamers still do have common sense, and now the fans are in the minority, so don't tell us, we don't have the right to take over every conversation, if we are the majority we have every right, so long as we keep it civil.
Hate it all you want, you are now in the minority, and will have to live with it, because it is the consequence of fans and developers alike, had they listened more to us, when we were raising our hand to pull the alarm, such hate would not exist towards Sigil.
What goes around comes around, you guys are just getting what you have been giving. I don't think you realise how much lies and denial hurt this game, and right now it's in a vicious circle.
Perhaps if Sigil and co. had ignored the yes men, and realized there is some validity in everything, even the haters actions.
Sigil could have thought "Hmm...our beta testers are often logging in once or twice, and then never logging in again. Maybe that should be a good indicator that we're doing something wrong"
Sigil assumed "Hmm...people are applying to get into our betas constantly. That must mean we're doing a good job, and that people are satisfied with the game"
Devs needs to realize that "haters" are usually nothing more than the harshest of critics. I can be considered a hater, but it's not because I openly bash the game JUST to bash it. It's because time and time again, I've seen glaring episodes of ineptitude and incompetence, and despite the dev's repeat failures, people continually support them, often blindly.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
Hhahahhahahahhahahaha, some people will buy anything.I guess thats why "poor ,poor i need your money" brad actaully sold some of his game and some of his apologies.
Of course it doesnt explian why Sigil posted here befor etheir game was exposed as the crap it is,you know when MMORP was ALSO hosting gold selling adds.
