Is this game good, or are people just desperate for something other than WoW? I signed up for the world tour and am picking up the pre-order tonight.
Just want to know the real truth baby!! is this a gem or just something to do other than WoW until a "good" MMO is out.
Thanks

The only honest answer is to try it yourself and see if you like it. Having said that I love this game and see myself playing it for a long time.
It's a solid game, few bugs, wonderful world design, tons of quests. In general, it meets all the important objective criteria for a good MMORPG.
Middle Earth is more of a "realistic" fantasy setting than WoW or even EQ2. It's not the over the top style of most of the other games, so some people may find it a little boring, just because it isn't as flashy as most of the competition.
I'm a very jaded long term veteran of MMORPGs and I really like this game. It's the first game I have felt really good about after playing a few days since WoW. I guess the only problem now is that in comparison, WoW feels kind of cheesy now.
I've liked LotRO more and more as I've played it. The classes get more involved as you level and add skills. I also found that some classes I've tried have fit my playstyle much more than others.
It's a game I would recommend to almost any MMORPG fan for a solid, multi day trial. For me, it get's better and better as I go along and the worst thing someone could do would be to try it for a few hours and then feel they've seen all they need to see.

Thank you for the info. Also, does it run well? I have been playing WoW which runs extremely well on my system. Is it safe to say that if WoW runs well than LOTRO will also run well? I would prefer to not have to upgrade my system or purchase a new one to play.
Thanks again
Running good is one of it's strongest selling points. You don't need a $4,000 super computer to run it. (I'm lookin' at you Vanguard)
In very crowded areas sometimes it gets a little chuggy for me. I notice that toggling floating names off helps a lot with that. (the N key by default). I have also noticed that just turning in a circle a few times so everything around you loads will let you run around even the biggest towns pretty smoothly. I suppose I could also turn the graphics settings down a bit, as I run on ultra-high. For comparison, I could barley run vanguard on the second lowest setting.
