Graphics Question

I have read in various review and opinion forums that the combat and running animations are quite disappointing.  Is this something the developers are working on or are they just going to remain this way?

I ask because combat and movement animations are a big part of the visual enjoyment.

Anyone have opinions or info on this?

Thanks

Ive just tried the game now and have to say this and this is just my opinion ...

Character creation was really good, graphics even at ultra-high settings arent that great. For example Guild Wars looks alot better than Lotro. UI is bad graphics wise, for example the quest journal its just all with a black background it feels so empty, font chosen in the game is bad also. Sure you can say who cares, but I do cause it adds to overall atmosphere.

Animations werent that bad, they r ok sure they could be a bit better, smoother but they r ok / good.

Gameplay as a hunter was a bit weird / boring, IMO. I can shoot my arrows even if the monster is 1 yard away from me. You dont need to kite or something, its boring.

No real caster nukers in the game :(. Iam a fan of playing Mages some ppls say its ok this way cause it reflects the books / movies or wutever. Yes sure its good to keep to the lore and all but if you can enhance it a bit to make the game more fun, I think you should cause overall its still a game right ? and should be fun.

Music is great, cant complain here.

Overall I have to say I wont play it :( and I really hoped I would have a new game till Gods & Heroes arrives, meh ... Maybe Iam expecting always to much from a MMO ? I dont know ..... I just didnt find any other MMO after WoW worth playing they all had big flaws.

EQ2, loved fighting in a group was real fun and spell graphics were totaly awesome but it seemed nobody cared about quests, just go in a dungeon and grind monsters. Overall Graphics were  bad. To much grey everywhere, heck even wood, trees, barrels were grey wtf ?

DAoC, ok its an old game but I liked the graphics, atmosphere but movement in that game was a damn pain in the ass.

EVE ? uh huh I didnt even understand that game lol :P maybe "a bit" to complicated for a beginner.

Ryzom ? Hmm graphics were bad here also, atmoshpere and everything.

GuildWars ? Graphics were damn nice to me, but spells and fighting in this game was to damn boring.

It seems always so, that one game has good graphics but lacks in combat, the other one has good combat but lacks in graphics or other department ... meh :(

Iam not a MMO expert, actually WoW was my first but now I really can see why WoW was such a success and no I dont play it anymore Iam bored of it after 2 years playing, tried alot of other MMOs after it but nothing could hold my attention cause they always heavily lacked in one department ..

srry for my bad English and pls dont start a flamewar :( These are just my opinions and Iam just a bit mad right now I cant find a damn new MMO.

I guess whether the graphics are good or bad depends on personal taste. For me its all about the gameplay...graphics is about 6th on my list of what's important in an MMORPG game.

Its a pretty fun game for some folks.... others not so much...you really have to give the game a try and see if you like it...

Did you install the game from a DVD? Because I think with the download client, even if you pick ultra-high you aren't getting the high-resolution textures that really make the game look great.

No I have downloaded it. Hmm that might explain it, I dont know but then its a bad move from Turbine to just give low res Textures with the download.

I might check it out then again after release cause Iam really bored right now and dont have a game to play :(.

And to the other poster above cause of graphics at 6th place ... Well for me graphics are important but not from a technical standpoint. I mean for example Vanguard should be very good from a technical standpoint but the art and the feel is just one of the worst Ive tried so far. Other example WoW, we sure agree all that from a technical standpoint (polygon count etc.) is one of the worst ^^ but the art and the feel is really good, that is what matters to me and not that a charakter has 104343545 polygons, that alone doesnt make em look good.

The overall package must be good and as much as I hate WoW these days cause of all the rep grinds, and there is nothing else to do than raiding I have to say, with the overall package they did a damn good job and now I understand why its such a success.

Iam just so mad companies these days are so lazy or wutever to make a real good game. In the past Ive never complained so much when i was in shooters, RTS, RPG games but these days with MMOs are sad days for me  especially when WoW got boring :(, I dont have anymore interests in other genres but I cant find a real good one which would hook me up.

Maybe I just should wait for Gods & Heroes, AION, Warhammer etc but thats a damn long time till they come out :(.

Ah well and last but not least I didnt want to bash lotro, maybe Its just not the type of game I was looking for.

Just so you know, putting the graphics settings at ultra high doesn't max them, it leaves a AA and AS off, which makes 70% of the graphics, turn them on and put them on 4x and 16x , thanks

I'm picky about graphics in games and I think they are very good in this one. It's not the bright oversaturated colors of WoW, so it may look a little washed out to WoW players. It doesn't overuse bump maps and specular lighting like Vanguard, so it may not seem as flashy. However, I constantly find myself stopping to just look around at the world, so I feel I can safely say to me I find the game very beautiful.

The animations are pretty smooth and nothing is notably out of whack. Since it's a more "realistic" game design, the combat moves, special attacks, "spell" effects are a bit blah. Once again, it's not that anything is not done well, but it's definitely not as flashy as most MMORPGs.

It all works together to create an immersive play experience, but I will admit that personally I think they may have muted some things just a little too much. Espescially with other releases later this year, like Gods and Heros, Warhammer Online and Conan all going for really over the top visual styles and animations.

One thing that's odd about this game that makes it hard to pigeon hole is that yes, it is definitely casual friendly, but there is a lot of depth to the game and it's also a setting that will likely have more appeal to "mature" (not necassarily older) players. It's feeling more and more to me like an "old school" MMORPG, brought up to date and minus the frustrations of the first generation titles.
