Reasons why LotR:O will fail

If it fails the reason will be 1) that its a grinding game 2) The game looses its story apeal when all the expansions have been released and completed thus completing tolkiens books story (but thats not really a failure as much as its the flaw of making a game on a book).

If it doesnt fail it will be because 1) Its Lord of the rings 2)The game is deeper 3)Its Lord of the rings 4)Its apperently better "quality" then WoW, engines better, interface is better etc.

Feel free to add on this list if you want, these are just quick observations. Also note that I do not play the any of these games myself and thus am not blinded by being a fan.

That is the only way this game will fail. Why I say this is as follows.
My power supply on my computer died so I got a new tower. New tower doesn't support AGP so I have no video card now. New system is as follows:
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (2.2ghz)
    Ram: 2 gigs pc2700
    Onboard video card: GEforce 6100
I can't play Vanguard anymore because of having no card, but I downloaded LotR and started it up. I set my gfx to recommended lowest settings, but with textures on high and post processing effects on with bloom at about 50%. The game looks amazing for the crappy card I am running and there is almost no lag.
The game plays so solidly and I haven't seen any bugs or even a flappy polygon or warped texture. The quests aren't nearly as hand-holdy as I had thought after playing the intro, you actually have to look around a bit. Must say I'm enjoying it and look forward to getting home tonight and playing some more. LotR's strength is that I have basically no video card and the game looks just fantastic and there are no bugs that I have seen period.
Gonna say congrats to Turbine right now. It's not revolutionary, but the game is going to be a great success because it is solid, playable and fun.

Well , if you got converted to LOTRO. Than ... i dont know ...who is next ? Jesus ?

The name alone wont help this game. Im sorry but playing a lute isnt going to make the game.

    IMHO AoC    FTW

I can 100% guarantee you that many people have joined this game solely because its LOTR. But no, if the gameplay is bad the name wont save it, then the name is going to be the shovel that burries it.

LoTRO is not going to defeat WOW or WAR and i doubt aoc, for a very logical reason , people are not gonna quit WoW where they already have time invested for a clone (or something near it pvpvm it not goign to cut it at all). It has little to attact a large crowed, other than the ip , which should help.

Wow is still and will remian king of the farm/easy craft/ noob mmo.

AoC and WAR will face off for second place and i think that the pvp based game that WAR offers will be more attractive than the new combat system of AOC. I see TB gettign a few peoples but not overwellming humbers. some of the Shooter mmos might get some good numbers.

    OFF TOPIC

So far it seems WAR will be more carebear-ish, auto targeting special pvp zones in same area you will have both PvP and PVE like one dev explained ... in zone there is a river in the middle that separate pvp and none pvp zone what basically means you can level thru complete game without engaging in pvp.

    I just wonder how good/bad

    ON TOPIC

Mea culpa, i did not try LOTRO PvP or like they called it PvM but i plan to do so, mybe it really rox :)

Not trying to flame or anything.

But you probably dont know Anarchyart. He was a loyal fan of Vanguard for years and probably the most prominent poster on Vanguard forums (on this site)

I just think that , if he claims that he digs LOTRO , than Turbine must be on a right track

    Anyways

Tue minus the fact that over 50% of all land is pvp open and 90% ish end game of world land is pvp open. But the thign is from lvl one you can pvp, get your equipment and money and level via pvp. Its a pvp game or pve game, not a pve game with pvp hot glued on it's side. (WOW , everyother mmorpg , ok some use pvp only as end game and in thsi reguard is pvp glued on its head.)

The some of the pvep ish what type of quest are in areas where you have to work aginst enemies to accomplish a goal.  But yes you coudl go through WAR without pvp , would most people ... doubt it. I think this game may even get carebears to pvp , why , becuase so far from what has been said and released pvp is not just a gank fest to 0//||z peoples hardcore , it is part of the game it is part of the play, it is part of leveling.  Sometime you don't feel liek fighting smart things and that is when pve comes into play.

to me pvp it self doesn't mean much , pvp has to have impact. SB (while i did not like the game all that much its pvp was good), DAOC, Most muds, some of SWG, any fps , and WAR . There is a greater goal in pvp than r0x0ring the enemy.

ps used the eleet speak a bit sarcsim ...

Jetrpg, LotRO may not beat WoW in numbers, but I know as a fact, that my friends and I have stopped playing WoW due to the fact we are now play LotRO. So there are people who are jumping ship to LotRO. Maybe they are just not making a big stink of it, and are happy just playing this great mmo. There should be no loyalty to any one game, but to ones own enjoyment. That is what we are paying for. So if someone likes WoW, great. and if someone likes LotRO, great too. And as far as doing as great as WoW, LotRO is starting out as good as, if not better, then WoW did on its release. Oh and I believe that WoW is a clone of Aseron's Call (UI), but you don't hear the fans complaining about it. They all take from eachother, which is fine.

Rinse and Repeat over and over with some crap crafting and carebear Monster Play.

But  this is just my point of view and why I thought it was boring.  If you like it cool.  It's basically all we got out there worth anything right now until AOC or Warhammer comes out.

    Uhm, as your life is:

    Wake up

    Do stuff

    Go to bed

    repeat until death.

Ah... duh.  The in between of waking up and going to bed is up to you as it is in LotRo.  Your simplistic view of the game and ludicrous supposition of the 'carebear'  mp speaks of  a brain addled by insta-grat crack games.  I am wondering how AoC will be different in base linear description, seriously.  And I am looking forward to trying AoC.  Warhammer, on the other hand, seems to be just realms pvp constantly - great fun if you are into the tribes/cs gendre but with dwarves and orcs - talk about yawn.  That is DAoC realms rehash as far as I can tell.

"I still maintain that this game will be second only to WoW. I know the AoC and WAR folks disagree and those games may do very well - but neither of them will be a blockbuster and I don't think both of them combined will do as well as LoTRO." ~ Jadar

    I dissagreed.

I have said in other post LotRO looks good, if i was not happy with eve atm i may have tried it out. However, it has almost nothing that would make me want to switch mmos. Only if i was more or less done with the mmo i was playing would i care to try it, in my mind thast a failure of a game, becuase once other games are released that do have aspects that make people want to play them , they will play that game instead. (that why i am personally banking on WAR, and AOC as a back up).
