This made me chuckle

This was a post on the VG Tech Forums that amused me in several ways as the title to start with was

"Sick of reading posts that Bash Vanguard"

frankly its annoying to read threads from ppl bashing this game. Yes its got bugs, yes it crashes, and yes sometimes its annoying to deal with. But you know what, this game has more potential than any game I have ever played. Some time when you have the chance and your not gonna go anywhere for a while.. Turn everything on. all the way up as far as your card, (or cards) will take it. And know that soon, (hopefully) they will have everything ironed out and you will be able to see a world as deep and satisfying as the real world isnt. =-)~ But anyway I would like to know what other ppl are running for systems. see if we can come up with any similarities for whats causeing problems.

I am running a

Amd X2 4800+ liquid cooled with a peltie from Coolit systems

an MSI K8N Platinum board with the 590Sli chipset

2Gigs of Corsair low lat ram

2 Nvidia 7900GTX cards also liquid cooled with a peltie system. (a benefit of being a pc building company)

a Soundblaster XFI Fatal1ty card with the frontpannel

and an Ageia PhysX card. (this actually gave me 10fps extra in high quality mode btw)

But anyway. all that asside, the only real issues I have are the occasional disconnects when I enter a city and its got too much to load all at once. and the fact that I cant run the game with the xfi excellerated sound. I can do software and hardware but not xfi. (anyone else got this problem?)

For starters, I guess game bashing is now an "Official Game Issue" because it has several replies and has not been locked unlike those who get posts locked for complaining about a game breaking issue that the Dev's are already aware of, thus not making it count as a "new issue" or those posts that complain that there are too many bugs for their taste.  Seeing how they get quickly responded to from CSR reminding them that this is not a discussion forum and for game issues only, one would only have to assume that bashing the game is regarded as a game issue.

The other thing that strikes me as almost comical is that not only does the poster have a system far beyond the reach of many players, they admit that they have their fair share of crashes. So much for the hardware saving us 6 months from now.   We should however feel for them as they are tired of reading posts in the "complaint/service" area of the game that complain about game issues.  I'm thinking to myself, if the game runs so very well for you and you have such high praise of it; why are you trolling the help forums to begin with?

Anyway, not to troll or flame, I just found this amusing in several ways.

I knew he was full of shit when he claimed his Ageia PhysX card gave him 10 more FPS in Vanguard.

Seriously, where do these people pull this crap from?

Heck, to me the best part was him trying to defend the game issues by explaining that he has THE top of the line water cooled hardware and it still gives him glitches, therefore, we have no reason to complain because he has accepted that and has faith in the company.

Well, we can all save some more money looking at that configuration with Duel SLI and water cooling as that's the tech were looking at 6 months from now and even then it wont be "affordable" to the "masses" aside from the fact that the poster admits he still has problems.

I also enjoyed the part about setting your settings on the highest mode, just to take a look at the game to see where we will be someday. Maybe it's prophetic, but I did that and crashed to my desktop. Hmmmm

I enjoy Vanguard and the performance on my (2+ year old) machine on balanced settings is quite acceptable most of the time, so I am not here to bash the game by any means. That said, this guy posting a souped up system that 99% of gamers can't even afford yet, and saying that with that he gets "only a few crashes" is really kicking himself in the teeth.

I play on my Palm Pilot and get 50 FPS on ultra high settings.  I am sick of all the bashing of the game.  Performance is fine.

Most important factor in mmorpg is FUN not Potential.  WOW wouldnt even be the largest mmorpg if most of ppl care so much about graphics.

I do not think he was serious by the way...

    Heard of irony and sarcasm?

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

I have a system simmilar to his, but even at balanced all the stuttering, chugging, crashes were too much. They were what ruined my fun. So I set the game to Extreme Performance (much like people did with EQ2 when it first came out) and find that I actually like the game ALOT more. The fuzzy graphics smooth out alot of the harshess of the games art (that coverage map over all the terrain is f'ugly). Now it reminds me alot of an older gen game but with alot more polygons. Still the improvment to framerate was well worth it. I suppose when they work the kinks out of their engine I can turn stuff back up but till then I'm enjoying the game as a kinda retro mmo. I dig it and it dosn't crash or chug anymore (except when I cross tiles).

Does it stink that I have to do that? Sure. Did people do the same thing with EQ1, EQ2, Star Wars Galaxies, Dark Age of Camelot and other games which tries to push next gen graphics? Yep. That's just seems par for the course. People are able to run EQ2 now on the same system they got it on a year or two ago and back then could not run it above extreme performance. I agree that the game is bloated in many ways, textures, polygons, etc. And the lame engine dosn't help, but not every mmo is awsome when it first comes out. I think WoW was the only one I can recall without fundamental flaws and issues with it's engine, design, gameplay mechanics and whatnot.

Don't think I'm making excuses, I'm not. I think Vangards rep is well deserved, and I've posted my fair share of rants about it. I'm just stating some food for thought.

Well I have a pretty similar rig to him, minus the water cooling, and the useless physics card - and I don't remember crashing being a problem.  Perhaps he's overclocking that thing too high.

Performance was never a big issue for me.  For me, the big issues were the lack of polish, unfinished feel and many, many bugs - especially relating to boats, corpses, chunk lines and player movement.

He's not selling the game very well, to say the least.

Excellent thoughts and I agree with you to some extent.  The difference however in my opinion is that you could run in High Performance in the other games on an "average" system and the Dev's of EQ-2 were very clear in telling people at release that the Extreme Mode was designed to run on systems not yet available to the general public for the most part.

Here we have people with considered to be fairly high end systems running at Balanced and High Performance and the Dev's telling us that it was designed for systems that will be affordable in the next six months to the average gamer.

If someone is ticked about the game in general as it stands now in regards to performance, imagine how displeased they would be if they actually bought that hardware as a fix?
