Lineage 2 or City Of Heroes

Me and my friend decided to get our first MMOG. We played the Lineage 2 beta and he loves it but im not all that stunned about it. I just wanted to know if City Of Heroes would be a better choice, or is Lineage 2. I want a MMOG now for the summer and then get Guild Wars when it comes out. But for now i want to know CoH or Lineage 2.

I've really lost interest in Lineage 2 quickly..

but from everything I've heard COH was just your basic fight mobs... nothing else to do..

that will get kind of boring to me.. much to repetative..

Yeah. I might get Lineage 2 because of castle siege. It might be alot more fun and the quests aren't that bad either. But it is too repetitive when u kill the same mob over and over to lvl up. My friend's char in OB is lvl 20 and he says the game is tons better when you class transfer. Well still give me feedback on this issue i have.

    Thanximage

I'd say City of Heroes if I had to pick. COH is the far more original one and you may just get very tired of l2 right away because its exactly like other games (with more grinding). COH has alot more character customization as well if that matters any.

From what I read I suggest CoH as well. The gameplay looks original and L2 is very tedious. You will get bored under the first two hours watching yourself get pked by clones. o.O

I suggest COH too. Its a fresh genre to mmo. Lineage 2 is just another fantasy game thats only have level grind for gameplay.

Lineage 2 is so tedious i'd have to lean towards CoH. They have some stuff in CoH making you WISH Lineage 2 had that stuff (Character customization, way better controls and freedom to the enviroments, great emotes)

I have only played beta for 2 weeks but all i can say is if your either playing for hours, or maybe just 10 or 20 minutes... Your going to have a blast image.

The only thing that worries me in that game is content... But NCsoft seems to pull it off announcing you will be able to play villains, PvP will be implemented, they said something about superheroes having their own headquarters, and more in the future, which will add a couple months of gamers time.

Lineage 2 is not original at all.It is a watered down attempt to replicate EQ success  with better graphics.

Also the levelling is hard as nails there and more of a job then fun.

CoH is far more original. If I have to pick between both(and yeah I had to pick as I got no time for 2 mmorpg) I would say CoH by a mile.

Have you guys that are recommending CoH leveled past level 10? From what i hear is the treadmill is ther in CoH too without the variety that l2 has. I understand the genre novalty and want to give Coh a chance too. however, I would like to hear from a 20+ player.

Can someone name me a game (mmorpg) without some type of treadmill or another? They all have it, it just matters which one is more fun. If you get into the story and plot lines in CoH, it is very fun. Sure, you kill many of the same mobs over and over, but it is presented in a much more entertaining way and the combat is challenging and fun. You can go around and just whack random mobs for exp just like any other game, or you can join the story and have adventures instead of camps.

I still don't see where CoH is going as far as an end game, but the journey toward that end is much more fun than any game I have played to date (with the exception of EQ when it was the first, fresh, and I had a ready group of friends to play with every night, and even then it got tedious at times). People want to put down CoH for one reason or another, but in the end, it is fun. And isn't that what all games should be?

I prefered CoH much more than lineage2. At least CoH had relatively unique, fast gameplay mixed in with great character customization. While Lineage 2 only had castle sieges :)

I did notice how Lineage 2 is similar to other MMOGs like FFXI. I want to get CoH now for the summer. It is so new and original. I love the character creation. If not one then I wont get either and wait for Guild Wars and Mythica. They both look so tyte. Well Thanx anywayz.

Lineage 2 bored me to death. City of Heroes on the other hand, looks amazing and is definitly more original. To even get to the fun parts in L2, yuo have to play a hella long time, and after that, it's not even that great.

Guild Wars does look very impressive (cant wait), but I thought Mythica was dropped?

Mythica is cancelled. Damn! It looked so cool with its realtime gameplay. Too bad though. Well City Of Heroes it is.image

i havn't tried city of heros yet, but the only knock on it i keep hearing is that you get bored in a month or so.

    i say this about lineage2,
if using the same skill/spells in a row to kill 1,000,000 of the same mob in a row, and doing it over and over and over again does not bore you in a month, you are braindead. there is absolutly nothing else to do except bitch about the 2000 or so sales of adena on ebay(lineage players favorite passtime)

to put it simple, a 5 year old could level in Lineage2. CoH is alot more fast paced and the only people who get bored are the hardcore freaks who only care about getting lvl 40.

I'd have to go with CoH as well, after playing open beta Lineage 2 i was rather disappointed with it. As many have mentioned before me, the constant grinding got me burnt out fast. And the only quests i ran into, were ones telling me to go kill more stuff and bring back fangs or skin.

Lineage2 combat system is way too simple, no strategy in combat. It's pure level grind. CoH have a more fast pace action combat with some strategy. CoH Skills system are way more fun to use and upgrade. Although, CoH is lacking contents that will make people playing it for over than 2 months. CoH is a great game, if you plan to play for about 3 months. Lineage 2 is a level grinding game that will take you a long time to be able to participate in castle siege. Both of the game will get old really quick if they don't add more content to it. I see CoH as a better game simply because of a better combat system, more strategy in combat, smooth control, fun skills effect,  and a great charactor creation. Lineage 2 combat system is just click and watch your self fight with little brain and strategy. Lineage 2 can be quite addictive to someone, I know I was for a month.

im not trying to start anyting, but im wondering where is the 'variety that L2 has'
sure there are a few different kind of mobs you can hunt at each lvl. but its still, use the same exact spell/skill combo over and over and over, and unless you want to lvl slwoer/make money slower, there really is only 1 or 2 spots for each lvl. this is after lvl 20 of course, before that each race has its own nice mix of wolves/orcs/mushrooms

I know that. I only plan to play the game over the summer, just to keep me occupied. After im done with that me and my friend are gonna start a guild in Guild Wars.

not to sure about CoH but the lvling curve in L2 was quite steep, taking dedication or a good party to get 20+

i personally enjoyed lineage 2 except the character customization and the low lvl moves were all basicly the same for fighter/mage.

Well, at first I just said CoH had a more original concept and better customization.  But now that I've heard more...  I could never stand to play a game with the nickname of "The Clone Invasion," personally, so...no L2.

Played both in beta - hands down CoH. L2 is an uninspired product that feels half done. CoH even in beta felt spectacular and was very fun. The drawback that I see to CoH is longetivity, but since I usually only get a month or two from a good single player game and can expect at least 3+ fun filled months from CoH its all good here.

Something was very telling to me today. CoH went out with a bang and L2 with a whimper. CoH's alien invasion at the end of beta was a blast, snafus and all. L2 simply shut off the servers after such a massive PK fest that I lost almost two levels. Hmmm...
