Never Had So Much Trouble Installing a Game

I can't recall the last time I had so much trouble installing a game. I finally even got the pre-order DVD because I was so sick of not being able to get the regular download to work properly.

Right now, I'm getting an error about something being wrong when it comes to hashing a file, or something like that. I've tried re-installing the game, but that still hasn't changed it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried completely un-installing and then installing from the DVD from scratch??

I would also check the LOTRO forums to see if anyone has posted about having a similar problem.

I'm trying that now, removing every file I can find associated with previous installs.

The thing of it is, nothing is consistent. Sometimes I get an error at one point in the updating process, and sometimes I get an error when I'm pretty deep into it. It's VERY frustrating.

The error I'm getting now happens during the file update, and says something like:

"Cannot find core client file, installation may be corrupted"

Of course, it's game over at this point, and a re-installation has to happen.

Okay, I completely removed and installed the Beta from the DVD, and still no dice. In fact, the error about the client being corrupted came even earlier than it has before.

I don't understand why this is so difficult...

Random issues like that usually are signs of hardware issues. Run memory test like http://www.memtest86.com/ to check your memory. Run Defrag and disk check to make sure your hard drive's okay. Is your computer overheating? I just had mine overheat and it was causing all kinds of weird behavior.

Also, do a throughout virus and spyware scan on your system. Those can do bad things as well. Finally, install all Windows Updates from Microsoft.
